Criminal Investigation
Great book, very well written. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the field of criminal justice. The book is very informative, yet easy to understand. I think it would make a good book for reference or a good book for course instruction. I will recommend it to anyone who wants information regarding the execution of a criminal investigation.

Criminal Investigation Primer
What a wonderful book for the layman, the beginner cop, the security guard, law student, or any other para-police professional. The book covers both the developmental history and the modern practical application of criminal investigation practices. Topics range from time tested investigation tactics through today's highly sophisticated forensic techniques. While investigatory theory is discussed, the book is rooted in day-to-day police work.

A Great Book for Anyone Interested in Criminal Investigation
As a criminal justice major I have found this book to be very helpful for my studies. I really like the pictures of defensive tactics.

A Complete and Handy Reference Guide
Part 1: The Vital Keys to Good Health
Part 2: The A to K of Vitamins
Part 3: Minerals: The Elements of Good Health
Part 4: Exploring Other Supplements

Appendix A: A quick reference chart for common health problems such as acne, colds and insomia
Appendix B: Resources (includes addresses and phone number of that company/organization) for Finding nutritionally oriented physicians and other health care professionals in your location, Nutrition and the elderly, Testing labs, Supplement manufacturers, Supplement infomation and regulation, Federal Regulation and Industry association & help for medical problems
Appendix C: Includes a in-depth glossary of the terms throughout the book.

This book is packed with infomation and I found this book very useful.

In its introduction, the author explains briefly on why vitamins and minerals are so important for us to stay alive. Throughout the book there are plenty of charts, including many that list good food sources for the various vitamins, minerals, and other supplements. The book also gives tips on how to get the most from your foods and supplememnts, how to avoid problems like overdoses or bad interactions with other drugs or supplements. It also includes a sidebar with a duck character letting you know what supplements don't work or what to avoid because it dosen't work.

Extremely easy to read, informative and fun book on vitamins
This book is very helpful if you are interested vitamins. I knew a decent amount before reading this book, but learned a lot more. It'll tell you what the max dosages are, the dangers of overdosing on certain ones, what each vitamin does and the myths surrounding some of the vitamins, minerals etc. Cancer runs in my family, so I'm looking to avoid that problem. I learned that soy products inhibit breast cancer. More importantly (since I don't like soy products) I found out that I can find soy tablets at the store! A lot of really good information in this book, and as I said, it's extremely easy to read. I read it within a few days

A big thank you to the authors
The book helped me to make an informed decision about what vitamin supplements to buy suitable for my personal circumstances. Took me just 4 hours of reading. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to get too bogged down in this vitamin stuff, but just wants a quick overview of how all these vitamins can help you be more healthy.

Crossing the Bridge : Church Leadership in a Time of Change
Published in Paperback by Percept Group, Inc. (01 February, 2000)
Authors: Alan Roxburgh and Mike Regele
Amazon base price: $20.99

Life lessons for any change agent.
As pastors we live in a world that is changing. This book brings it out to the forefront what is changing and the choices that we have to make. I didn't walk away from reading this book all warm and fuzzy but I did walk away having a greater understanding of the issues involved in what is going on in my church and in the world and community around me.

Must reading for Mainline Church executives
This book gives hope and reality to stay focussed on mission and ministry in this time of enormous transition. The transition themes in the Bible are pivotal in staying connceted to the people of God who have crossed the bridge. Redefining leaders as poets, prophets, apostles, and pastors and notputting one type above another was liberating and very discerning. This book will be used in the SEPA synod for the training of future pastors and leaders and to transform existing leadrship. Biblical and postmodern ...all in one.

Weaving Patterns of New Paradigm Church Leadership
This book does a marvelous job of weaving together change theory, a theological vision of the church, and a sense of the cultural and social setting in which today's churches live. Building on the vision of "missional church" cast in a book by that title (of which Al Roxburgh was a co-author), this book helps leaders develop a sense of their calling to cultivate congregations in that direction in a time calling for rudimentary rethinking about who the church is and rerooting of practices that embody that understanding.

In a time when books on change are sometimes mere how-to manuals, this one sees things deeper and broader. In a time when cultural analysis paralyzes, this book invites hope within even vague and chaotic times of transition. In a time when biblical vision is set aside for what works, this book works toward a habit of discerning the calling and sending of God

Dangerous Journey

Authors: John Bunyan and Alan Parry

Childhood Favorites
This was my favorite book growing up, the illistrations are great and the story keeps you on your toes. Great bedtime story book as something is always happening (beware you can't finish in night though). Dragons, demons, giants, dark woods, and angels. A good introduction to the Christian walk in a way a small child can enjoy and still savor as an adult.

I'm certain that even God keeps this one in His library.
John Bunyan has created a story that will, regardless of your religious affiliation, profoundly move your heart. The author has created settings and characters that boldly reflect the best and worst of all things experienced within a lifetime, for all time. Bunyan's book is as relevant and necessary today as at any point since being written in 1676. If you read only one version of Pilgrim's Progress, make sure that "Dangerous Journey," is it. The poetic flow and wonderful illustrations grab and hold onto to you at word one and never let go.

A very good revision of Pilgrims Progress.
I found the book to be very good 12 years ago. I read it to my children when they were able to understand it. I also found the illustrations to be extrodinary and helped explain the story very well. I am going to purchase this book again today for my daughter.

Clinical Anatomy of the Eye
Published in Hardcover by Blackwell Science Inc (1990)
Authors: Richard S. Snell, Michael A. Lemp, and Ira Alan Grunther
Amazon base price: $94.95
Average review score:

Excellent anatomy text for Part I ophthalmology exam
It is an excellent book to start with when studying clinical anatomy of the eye. I forgot most of the anatomy by the time I left med school. Snell's anatomy book gave me a concise but useful overview of the anatomy of the eye and have very useful clinical correlations at the end of each chapter and I found those were the best parts of the book.

great for optometry students also
I found this a great book to help me pass my Part I of boards. It is also a good reference for the future.

Excellent brief overview
For opthamology exams it is far too brief, but excellent for an overview of the subject when "Wolff's Anatomy" is getting a bit heavy.

Cloud-hidden, whereabouts unknown : a mountain journal

Nunc Dimittis
This was the 13th of his books I've read this year, and I think it will be the final one. After a while, all his books begin to sound the same. I thought he was way off base in the chapter titled, "Was Jesus a Freak?" He may have taught seminary and served as an Anglican priest, but he sure didn't know much about Christianity. It is typical of his books that he makes false or misleading statements about Christian ideas, and then proceeds to show why Christianity itself is in error. What stupidity from a brilliant mind. The chapter titled "What Shall We Do with the Church?" was unrealistic. Many churches have indeed implemented the changes he recommended in this book, but the result has been declining membership for the past three decades. The only churches or denominations which seem to thrive are those which emphasize formality and tradition. The rest of the book was mostly a re-hash of his other books. Well-written as always, but nothing really new in terms of topics. This has been one of the more interesting reading projects I have engaged in. Well worth my time and effort, but, after thirteen of his books, it's time to move on.

rebel with a cause
Timeless wisdom wrapped in beautiful language that soothes the soul. Alan Watts was a brilliant storyteller who managed to stir things up a bit before leaving on an optimistic note.

This work is edgier than his others and will satisfy the more rebellious new agers.

just marvelous
This is perhaps the best of the half dozen or so Watts books I've read. Watts is a brilliant philosopher of the "Big Picture", and it is all wonderfully laid out here: Cosmic consciousness, Tantric Buddhism, the Hippies, Tao... he nails them all in splendid fashion. Highly recommendable.

Excellent, and at this price...
This is a wonderful resouce for those interested in ancient Mexico. Full photographic facsimilies of these codices are hideously expensive, and really, most are not in great shape. After extensive research, we have here a great reproduction of what this important work looked like when it was "fresh off the presses." It is beautiful, and in comparison to Dover's similar Codex Nuttall, this work comes with a MUCH better introduction that explains more of the text, the context, and the ideology. Readers will be able to better understand some of the religious principles of the ancient Mexicans (and there is some debate whether this book was painted by Aztecs or Mixtecs, which I won't bore you with!). It shows gods, ceremonies, the calender, and other religious iconography which is interesting, and would be a revelation for more the artisticly inclined. The visuals are wonderfully presented and all in all this is an astonishing bargain. Those with even a casual interest in New World archaeology or art NEED to get this book.

Terrific insight
This book gives terrific insight into the ancient Mexicans, their theology and world view, and their way of life. The illustrations are extremely well done, and the interpretation is on the mark. A must-have for anyone interested in ancient Mesoamerica.

Pre-Columbian Mexican Rituals and Myths
An excellent source book for anyone looking for authentic reproductions of the original that is housed in the Vatican Libray. This is a reproduction of an ancient document from the Mixtecs, around 1400 AD, from the area today known as Puebla or Oaxaxa. The project took seven years to complete as they painstakingly reproduced the Codex with accuracy and authenticity. The color plates are a delight to the eye as they depict kings, mythical warriors and the Mixtec belief system. Each plate is explained, in great detail, in the beginning of the book for your convevience. The colorful plates are intricate and exact on thick high quality paper. This is great stuff for an artist working in any medium that needs inspiration or just wants to reproduce. A good book for history buffs too.

Provocative and Enlightening Work
Put simply, this is a work of genius. Tweitmeyer is considered by many to be the Barry Bonds of his field--he makes his own rules and and stands alone at the top of his profession. He was at the top of his game at the time he wrote this book. Although hard to find, it is well worth the search, and autographed copies from his ill-fated book tour carry a large premium. This is a great read for both the beginner or the accomplished vivisectionist. My one complaint that keeps this from getting 5 stars is that I would have liked to have seen the illustrations colored in so I didn't have to do it myself. I blame McCracken for that.

Greatest American Text Book
This is possibly the finest book on human anatomy I have ever read/used. Now I know where both babies and poo come from. It has helped me tremendously in my work and hobbies. It is the next best thing to having an actual human cadaver lying on your kitchen table, and we all know how hard they are to come by, except for in the winter. Its full color illustrations truly bring the human viscera to life and the prose is remarkable in that it universally appeals to professional and layman alike. Highly recommended for the medical student or someone like me who just has a thirst for knowing whats inside the human body, but is closely watched by the authorities. And we all know how hard it is to fool the MAN. If I could only own one book for the rest of my life, and the way things are going, this could easily come true, it would be this one. Kudos and my hat is off to you Dr. Tweitmeyer for authoring this great, great work of American medical literature. I hope your next book is as much help to me as this one.

Educational/Informative - The Human Anatomy for students!
This text on the human anatomy is an easy read informative and educational book that will help the student in the learning process. The text book takes you step by step through the body so you can go at your own pace (or the pace of the instructor!). It's an ideal text that all can enjoy (if you enjoy anatomy) and learn a great deal from. I am impressed with the book and its relation to the reader (student)!

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Jazz

A Difficult Subject Handled Expertly
The task is an enormous one: How to explain jazz to someone who has little or no understanding of the musical genre. Just what is jazz? Maybe it really is a question that can only be answered by the famous Louis Armstrong quote, "If you've gotta ask, you'll never know."

But give Axelrod credit. He gives the subject expert treatment. Whether you know absolutely nothing about jazz (or any music, for that matter), or whether you have a degree in music, you'll learn plenty in this well-formatted book.

The author wisely gives readers a general overview of what constitutes jazz, what some of the major trends were, and a who's who of famous musicians. Axelrod does NOT immediately launch into a chronological history of jazz and that's a plus. Jazz does not have cut-and-dried periods. It's style changes intertwine and sometimes reemerge after years (and decades) of inactivity. After the first few chapters when Axelrod DOES get into more of a chronological look at jazz, it makes more sense. The foundation he has built can withstand a look at the various subgenres at that point. This makes for a much clearer reading and understanding of jazz.

Axelrod gives brief bios of the major players and band leaders. If you want to know more, he tells you where you can continue your search. Also very helpful is a listing of 25 "must have" recordings for the beginner, and an expanded list for those ready to branch out. Also provided are glossaries of musicians and jazz terms.

Some critics have knocked the book for not providing a sampler CD. Let me point out that the outstanding Ken Burns 5 CD boxed set covering the history of jazz barely scratches the surface. A "sampler" CD just won't do.

A great book for the beginning, intermediate, or veteran jazz fan.

approx. 300 pages

Wonderful Book for Jazz enthusiasts
I would like to thank Dr. Axelrod for such an initiative. If I were any Music educational authority I would insist that this book becomes compulsory text book for any secondary school student...Musician or otherwise!

Don't be an idiot anymore!
A must-have for anyone who never understood jazz, containing: 1) basic musical concepts; 2) jazz history; 3) major schools (styles), musicians and albums; 4) who's who in jazz; 5) essential jazz albums list; 6) complete idiot's reference card (styles and albums checklist).

Read it and you will learn about all the different jazz styles and get tips to find the music that better suits your taste and build a jazz collection.

P.S.: Despite the author's affirmation on page 225, Carmen Miranda was not actually brazilian. She was born in Portugal and moved to Brazil very young.

A nutrition guide with humor
Dr. Lemerande is a whirlwind of funny illustrations about how our bodies work: the slapstick repair of a damaged house using junk materials, immune cells that won't "blob" correctly, etc. His digressions are sometimes distracting, if humorous, and some folks may miss the movie references (how many of us have seen "The Blob"?), but you won't miss his point. Dr. L's frank and irreverant style makes absorbing the info painless. I recommend this book to, as his subtitle says, "anyone who eats."

Nutrition Made Simple and Easy
Dr. Lemerande makes learning about Health and Nutrition fun and easy. You will learn about what "real" nutrition is in a simple easy to understand format. I would recommend this book to anyone who is seeking the truth about how to achieve opitimum health and vitality.

Dynamic Health Through Nutrition
I have read Dr Al's book and have found it to be one of the most eye-opening,informative and generally useful guides that I have encountered. It is a fun and easy read and should be kept for reference and even re-reading. Don't miss this one
