The authors, using the Piani Trait System, teach that traits, in and of themselves, are neither positive or negative, although depending upon the person and situation, they can have positive or negative results. The biggest challenge for most of us is that we don't understand that a person whose traits are different from ours (in other words, a person who does things differently than we do) is not intending to annoy or upset us. And since, as the book explains, "Normal is what I am", we're never aware of the actual cause of the bad feelings in the first place.
Although somewhat geared toward a business/workplace setting, there are plenty of examples from personal life as well. In fact, my personal feeling is that every husband, wife, son, daughter, friend, employer and employee shoud read this book. If you are one or more of the above, buy this book, and devour it! -- I believe you'll find some tools that will make a very, very positive addition to your life

The text shows leaders who have failed, where they failed, and how they came to succeed. The leaders within the compilation tell their story, either via testimony or anecdote. Some open their entire lives to the reader so they can see the heart of the storyteller. Although the booklover might not be able to identify with all of the passages throughout the book, there is no doubt that more than one will hit the heart and soul of the reader.
Should this book be required reading for all future leaders of the world? I believe that it should. It offers inspiration to those people who are not yet world leaders and it offers a reality check for those who are in the top echelon of leadership.
This book provides a refreshing alternative view featuring several well-known and successful men revealing the freedom and power they have realized in their personal, spiritual, and business lives -- by transparently sharing their struggles, failures, and successes.
Though I was already aware of these concepts prior to reading the book, the real-life examples and willingness to share by these men are compelling - some of the stories even riveting - and all are an inspiration. It doesn't matter if you're a professional burger-flipper or the leader of thousands...at least some of the short accounts in this book are sure to speak to you.

I have seen the book, and read many of the other entries, and it is simply amazing. All of these people have opened their hearts to share with anyone who reads thier stories. This book is a must-have especially for people who have lost loved ones to violence. It is also important for people who have not lost loved ones to violence to understand that these people are real, and these situations are real.
That's how I feel reading Prechter's book about the new science of Socionomics. The telescope made sense of the jumble of lights in the night sky, as well as strange events like eclipses. The new science of Socionomics makes sense of a huge jumble of information in financial markets as well as strange events like crashes, manias, fads and fashions. The personality of markets and societies is linked directly to how our brains respond to certain types of input.
It is also a book that stirs up the back of your mind - are we really as independant in thinking as we imagine ourselves to be: how strongly are we influenced by the society around us? The book shows frightening evidence that our brains are hard wired to respond immediately to impulses stimulated by the human herd.
Overall, the book is like reading about the first observations from telescopes - it is a spooky glimpse into a world right in front of our faces that we've not understood until now. If you read it thoughtfully, the book will be both unsettling and inspiring in its implications.
After reading this book you begin to understand the science that is at work in Elliott Wave Theory, and believe me, they are not just a bunch of squiggles. Mr. Prechter makes his case brilliantly.
We are lead by Prechter through a basic understanding of Ralph N. Elliott's Wave Principle - a technical method of stock market analysis Elliott discovered during the 1930's - and come to find that this pattern is fractal based, and not only indicates where the NASDAQ is going to go tomorrow, but shows us where we will go as a society!
This book is a must read for anyone studying brain function, psychology, or philosophy AND for the beginning and seasoned trader! I wish I had found this type of information years ago.

'Where Did Our Love Go,' on the other hand, proves a truth we discovered in the day of the very music it chronicles: no amount of tepid covers surpasses a towering original. Perhaps because Mr. George was not an insider at Motown in the 60s, his history of the company is so objectively good. I've read it many times in over 16 years, and haven't found a date or factual mistake.
And it is balanced. The wonderful music of those glory days in Detroit is given the respect and affection it deserves, as well as the how-it-came-about details. Mr. George acknowledges as most of us do, that Motown's 60s sound is timeless, and is going to outlive Berry Gordy, the artists whose names appeared on the labels, and we baby-boomers who were weaned on it.
Yes, the who-struck-John stories of disappointment are delineated fairly too: the career declines and /or disappointments of folks like Martha Reeves, Gladys Knight, Chuck Jackson, Marvin Gaye and, especially Florence Ballard. But unlike the recollections of the authors listed above, 'Where' is not told by a writer needing to come out smelling blameless or put-upon at the end.
All these years later, 'Where Did Our Love Go,' by Nelson George remains the single most essential biography of Motown Records you can own. Buy it anyway you can manage to, even used - just don't ask to borrow mine. Beyond it, there are two companion works you should also seek out for some fair and detailed 'inside' looks of Motown in those days: 'Divided Soul,' David Ritz' account of Marvin Gaye's life, which appeared first in 1985, and might have been helped in its excellence by the fact that its subject was no longer around to censor it or 'advise.' Finally, from 1989, J. Randy Taraborrelli's 'Call Her Miss Ross,' could likely be a dozen times more factual and objective than the 1993 work of the former Supreme herself could ever be!
This book does not suffer that hinderance, and it allows us to read what really went on behind the scenes. It was not such a happy family with Berry Gordy Jr. as the paternal head as it is often depicted.
An excellent book, both readable and informative, and well worth getting hold of for all fans of the music who want to know what really went on as the records were made and the tours were run.
