The Web
This book is great. At first when I began reading it I thought it was strange that the author E.B. White had characters that were animals that could talk .Although it is not true that animals can talk, after I began reading the book more and concentrated hard I caught the excitement the characters created.
The book takes place on a very old farm. The characters were like real peolple but one of biggest stars in the book was a little spider called Charlotte. She gave all her friendship to a pig with a lot of courage and love that he needed.

Read this book it is SO good!
This is one of the funniest books in the world. It's a 8-12 age book.I really like the part in Bosten. If you liked E. B. White's books you'll like this one.

The Trumpet Of The Swan
I think The Trumpet of the swan was a great book! If I could I would read The Trumpet of the swan a 1000 times.I wish that I had the book I liked the part at the Ritz. The good part is when he can't speak. Was this book hard to write? This is a cool book.Have you ever wrote a 507 page book.If you did I would think it's hard to do.How many books have you wrote.I think You wrote a lot of books.I bet there great books.Have you ever been in a book contest.I would think you would win. Some day I will write a book.Is The Trumpet Of The Swan your best book?I like the part when Louis hits the two men and saved Serena from her wing geting cliped. What was his first book you wrote.Do you like swans. Is E.B.White still alive. We hope you are. Do you like reading books that you write? Your friend, Kirk and Thomas

Total Design: Integrated Methods for Successful Product Engineering

No doubt a GREAT book! One of my best!
Make no mistake here. Total Design is certaingly one of the best books EVER on the subject of product development and engineering design. It is applicable both to students learning engineering design, as well to professionals trying to fix up their PD practice by means of trying to structure the way they develop new and improved product. Get it! Read it! USE IT! You will never regret!

Who let this book go out of print?!!
Who understands publishers? Just because a guy is no longer alive doesn't mean his words were worthless. With so many badly designed products on the market today, you would think a book like this one, which gives the designer a fighting chance of realising an excellent product, would be in multiple reprints. If you can find a copy of this book, make it your own. This book tells you how products SHOULD be designed. Better still, badger Amazon and the publishers (Addison Wesley - who should know better!) until they reprint it. Pugh's memory deserves the credit, even if the great man is no longer with us.

Excellent.
An excellent description of "systematic design procedures & total design rigour". Pugh offers an especially useful methodology for driving conceptual designs toward the best possible solution. This is a good buy.

Learn the truth about opinions
Wow, Stuart Wilde is a gift from God! He really answers some of my questions I have about life. At this point in my life (late 30's, wish I had this knowledge in my 20's), I want more answers to why I'm here on earth, what I'm supposed to be doing, why I have encountered so many conflicts in life with myself and others etc... When I heard his theory about 'opinions' it really made sense! Got to get 'Weight Loss for the Mind' - It really opens your mind to reality without emotions. Co-incidently, it goes hand in hand with a book I am working through 'Yes or No - The guide to better Decisions' by Spencer Johnson M.D. (Also author of 'Who Moved My Cheese').

Stuart opens your eyes to a different way of looking at things. You'll love his books on audio because his sense of humor gets your attention to what you need to know. Each time I listen to it again, I learn more. Thank you Stuart!

Packed Full of Power
Why am I just learning of this amazing author? I have never been disappointed by any of his books which have all been chock full of powerful life lessons. This book is no exception of his excellent works. If you want to lose the negatives in your life and replace with a positive new world, then buy this book.

Truly the only self-help book you'll ever need.
If you can grasp and truly come to understand the concepts that Stuart presents in this book, you will, without a doubt, be freed from the pain, anguish, moral dilemmas, and negative emotion most people believe come with the territory of everyday living. The key to having everything is letting go of everything.

Healthful Living
The Wellness Book has been extremely helpful to me and is one of the best investments I have made in myself. I first used this book 10 years ago and was able to establish some healthful living goals and actions for myself that improved my physical conditioning immensely. I continue to use it today. What I really like about this book is that it enables each reader to really focus in on their individual lifestyles, needs, and habits and develop specific, realistic, and individualized action plans for improved and healthful living. The improved physical condition that I realized as a result of focusing on a plan and actions enabled me to climb mountains in the Sierra Nevada. I have also used techniques in this book to successfully address anxiety. This week I pulled the book off of my shelf and am going at it again. I am having fun with this exercise because I can compare my "10 loves" from 10 years ago to my "10 loves" of today and put a plan in place to realize them. Many thanks to the authors for such insightful and all emcompassing work. This book is as useful and current today as it was the day it was written.

Most Comprehensive Wellness Book
The Wellness Book has been the standard in Stress Management and Mind/Body Medicine for both the general lay public and health care practitioners for a decade, and continues to be head and shoulders above other such publications! . . . Gary L. Flegal, Ph.D., Professional Stress Management Services.

Five Stars!
This book is by far the best guide to mind/body techniques to healing and recovery of the body and spirit. Dr. Benson's Mind/Body Clinic at Beth Israel Deaconness Hospital in Boston is widely respected and uses all the techniques made available here. Indispensible.

Lyle does it again!
Who better to get advice about gambling than the man that casinos go to to learn how to protect themselves? Several time baccarat champion and casino advisor, Lyle Stuart has done it again.

Lyle tells you which games to play and which to avoid like the plague. He gives odds and tips on how to win at the casinos and more importantly walk away a winner.

He also entertains you with true stories of winning and losing millions in hours. If you only read one authority on gambling, Lyle is your man for honest, straight forward advice about casinos, gambling and not losing your shirt.

Great advice for the semi-experienced gambler.
This book is about developing a winning philosophy for gambling. While it does include some strategic tips for playing casino games, the book does not set out to teach you how to play. Instead of focusing on the rules and strategy for individual games, it teaches money managment and how to maximize your chances of leaving the casino with more money in your pocket than you brought in. Lyle Stuart is an acknowledged gambling expert, and he offers up his own experiences in playing and watching casino games. Even though there is a bit too much self-congratulations throughout, his stories are entertaining, and he does a good job of explaining complex odds to the layman. This is a very useful book for anyone who has a basic understanding of casino play.

Entertaining and Accurate
A very good read. Will make you a better casino player if followed! Will also increase your winnings.

Are we the planet's cancer?
In this extraordinary work ecologist Stuart Pimm plays bio-accountant and gives us the bottom line on our planet's resources, how we are spending them and how much is left.

There are approximately 130 million square kilometers of land surface producing an average of about 1,000 tons of biomass a year. Of this 130 billion tons we use 42% (60 billion tons) for food, grazing, wood for building and burning, etc. Pimm's comment is "Man eats Planet! Two-Fifths Already Gone!" (Chapter 6).

Professor Pimm also audits the ocean and gives us similar bottom-line figures. He explains how he gets the information, how he collates it and how his various sources agree and don't agree. He is in the field and on the ocean, floating down Amazon rivers and flying over the African veldt. He recalls the land before industrialization and tells us how it has changed. He tells the story of the great American westward expansion and what that expansion did to the forests and the prairies. He recalls the tragedy of Easter Island. Pimm writes in a witty and fascinating style that makes the dry numbers come alive and sparkle like fish in incandescent water. One gets the sense in reading him that here is somebody who knows what he is talking about, somebody who has worked hard to understand how the planet's various systems work, and what is happening to them because of human consumption and waste. His tone is balanced and calm and conversational. He appears to have no axes to grind, no favorites to play. Although he claims in the Prologue that his book is "unashamedly optimistic" (p. 8), the implications of the numbers he presents are nonetheless alarming.

For example, Pimm reports that our population has nearly doubled since 1970 but the amount of cropland has only increased from 14 million square kilometers to 15. He notes that "Agriculture feeds far more people from almost the same area of land." He adds, "In this statistic, eternally optimistic Panglossians see continuing progress that allows us to push the envelope of our environmental constraints. In the same statistic, worried Cassandras notice the constraints on the area of croplands that prevent it from expanding with our growing population." (p. 106)

He notes that virtually all of the best cropland is already being used, but not necessarily for cultivation. A significant percentage is under the concrete and asphalt of our cities. Furthermore the drier lands in places like California's central valleys, the soils are quickly becoming salinized by irrigation so that they yield less and less per acre. In some place the salt content from irrigation of the soil is too high for food plants to grow. All over the world this problem exists and as Pimm notes there is no solution in sight. The croplands that benefit from rainwater, that is, water that is distilled by the water cycle, do not turn salty, but the amount of that land is strictly limited and shrinking because of urban sprawl.

Pimm uses a party metaphor to highlight the situation. Some guests he says pick out the cashews from the bowl of mixed nuts. "Not for them the lowly sunflower seeds, still in their husks...The high-graders who...[got the cashews] are now demanding the even more expensive Macadamia nuts. The doorbell is ringing, announcing the arrival of more guests..." (p. 107)

Pimm also looks at the fisheries and what affect our fishing has on them. His conclusion: "Humanity does not use all of the oceans' production, but what we do use is already enough to damage the oceans, seriously and perhaps permanently. (p. 127) He also notes that without government subsidies, in places like Canada, Russia, the US, Japan and Europe, fishing on a large scale would be impossible because it no longer pays. In Johannesburg where there is a world wide conference on ecology taking place as I write this, one of the main topics is how farm and fishing subsidies in first world countries are keeping the farmers and fishermen in third world countries poor. Food prices are kept artificially low so that African and Asian farmers cannot compete in the marketplace. That is one (unintended, one would hope) consequence of subsidies, but another is that the intense use of land and sea are rapidly reducing the yields, in some cases to the point of no return.

The land and the ocean are the first two parts of the book. In part three, on biodiversity, Pimm sheds some light on taxonomy and how difficult it is to count species. In an Epilogue, he addresses solutions and his hope for the future. Pimm is optimistic. I wish I could be. But until we feel the pain of lost resources, and actually have to give up some of our comfort, I don't think anything substantial is going to be done toward the avowed goal of sustained growth. (Actually, I think "sustained growth" may be an oxymoron dreamed up by some transnational corporations to excuse their continued pillaging of the planet's resources.) At any rate, humans act out of necessity. By the time the real necessity kicks in for most of the first world, much of the planet's resources will be gone.

The good news though, according to Pimm, is that most of those resources are renewable. The forests of the Eastern US have largely returned (without much of their animal wildlife or flora diversity, I must point out) and while the wild salmon may go the way of the dodo, there will be farm salmon, and if we lose the swordfish, there will still be tuna, etc.

This is an important book that anyone concerned about the future of our planet should not miss. It is in a sense fundamental to an understanding of the most important issues facing us today.

The World According To Pimm Review
This is the first book I've read that concisely examines the problems and issues facing our planet Earth. Anyone who is interested in the future of the planet and wants to be able to make informed, rational decisions about a wide variety of ecological problems should read and reread this book. The material is presented in a very entertaining, informal way. The non-scientific person will not be mired in confusing (not to mention boring) data. He has a admirable ability to get right to the heart of the issues. He presents the material evenly and lets the reader make his own mind up about the problems presented.

Excellent, Important Book that Everyone Should Read
This book is well written, informative and an enjoyable read. But so are many books. What distinguishes this one is that it also presents a critical message - one that we all should take to heart. And do not assume: "oh, wonderful, here's another book just bemoaning the fate of the planet and predicting its destruction." Instead, Dr. Pimm's book does an exceptional job of clearly and accurately presenting a wealth of sobering information while maintaining a strong sense of optimism and inspiration. This is a truly outstanding and important book, and one does not need to be a scientist to understand and appreciate its content.

Higher-order Symmetry, Non-Abelian Electrodynamics
This impressive, 3-book set offers a large number of chapters, covering a wide array of advances in the physics and chemistry of electrodynamics being made by leading researchers from around the world. Individual chapter authors have been carefully selected to ensure authoritative treatment of each topic. Editors Prigogine and Evans have published widely on many of these topics. Of particular note is the more than 600 papers by Dr. Evans on higher-order symmetry, non-Abelian EM, which are referenced throughout this book set. The application of standard gauge theory of high-energy physics to the development of higher-order symmetry, non-Abelian EM is given as a starting point from which derivative developments are explored further in this outstanding book set. Parallel developments embracing the O(3) and SU(2) gauges are presented, indicating many important commonalities and results. In-depth treatment of potential theory is given, including the concept of fieldless EM based solely on potentials. Of major note is the novel development and derivation of higher-order symmetry, non-Abelian EM from the basic Einstein irreps embraced by the Sachs theory of general relativity (GR). It is shown that EM and gravity are both derivative from a common set of irreps in this Sachs-Evans theory. In theory, it is shown as a further derivative from Sachs-Evans that useable energy is possible to be extracted from the "active vacuum" by way of "non-symmetrical regauging." These, among other noteworthy advances, are intellectually refreshing and stimulating and will, no doubt, engender further research and development of computer-hosted simulations and new experiments, many of which are suggested and described, to provide more convincing proof. Industrial applications are further suggested -- such as Radiatively-induced Fermion Resonance (RFR) showing potential performance enhancements for medical and other applications of imaging techniques. Because of the significance of these wide-ranging advances, this 3-book set is highly recommended to all physics and chemistry researchers in academe and industry alike.

Review of Modern Nonlinear Optics - Myron Evans - Volume 85
This is an exciting three parts review which introduces the emerging field of non-Abelian electrodynamics and its role in unifield field theory.

Maxwell-Heaviside theory is extended and developed to reveal many new insights. It is shown how in its accepted form this theory, of a hundred or so years, cannot properly explain simple optical and interferometric effects. Non Abelian electrodynamics, however, successfully describes a series of known phenomena and makes new predictions - such as the possibility of extracting energy from the vacuum and the interdependence of electromagnetic and gravitational forces.

The three volumes are well presented and balanced covering the traditional approach and introducing the new theoretical developments from a number of starting points. It is seen how generally they produce the same overall consistent results (which are mostly embodied in a general theory of Mendel Sachs).

Physical consequences are evaluated and supporting experimental evidence reviewed or referenced where it is available.

Aspects of this reviewed work are already being described as landmarks in scientific development.

Advertising Paperweights: Pictorial Value Guide and History
This subject matter of this book has long been overdue in the collecting world. Until now very little had been published on Victorian advertising paperweights. This is certainly one of the most under appreciated and overlooked niches of collecting advertising memorabilia. The book is jammed with pictures of hundreds upon hundreds of examples. Many of the paperweights pictured are so rare that only one or two copies have been found. I have been collecting since the 1970s. I wish this had been published twenty-five years ago. This book is a visual feast for the novice or the experienced collectors alike.

A Super Nice Volume On Ad Paperweights !!
A brand new year 2002 delight of a book featuring 192 pages filled with very large, outstanding, beautiful, sharp full color photos to delight any ad paperweight collector. There are few collectibles books whose photography and printing surpass this guide. Collectors will be in awe of this work. There is a nice introduction to the collectible, a list of manufacturers, and a section on "questionable" paperweights. The book covers glass, celluloid, figurals and others. Pricing is current. A beautiful, beautiful book.

Excellent Summary of Most Important topics in Anesthesia
I owned the first edition of this book during medical school while taking a rotation in Anesthesiology, and it was an INVALUABLE aid! I could find many answers to questions I was "pimped" on during the rotation, which were hard or impossible to find in the standard large text books. I highly recommend it to anyone doing a rotation in, planning on going into, or working in and around Anesthesiologists! An absolutely wonderful book, buy it!

A book everyone in anesthesia should have
Where you can get the "MEAT" of each area without reading a lot of miscellaneous information.
