Aruba, Jamaica........
I visited Aruba last year but had no idea such cultural and ethnic diversity exsited on the island!

The main reason I enjoyed the book was the wonderful photos. In fact more than half the book was filled with colorful images of the Carnival!

Maybe I'll go back next year... =)

Cash, Crisis, and Corporate Governance: The Role of National Financial Systems in Industrial Restructuring
Published in Hardcover by University of Michigan Press (1997)
Author: Victoria Marklew
Amazon base price: $55.00
Used price: $51.15
Average review score:

Smart and well-written!
This is an excellent and unusual book, since it is eminently readable in addition to interesting, and is useful in both the business world and policy analysis.

The idea is that two very different governments (Socialist France and Thatcherite Britain) had a remarkably similar approach to funding heavy industry. The implications for national (and developing global) financial structures are significant, and are approached (again unusual and extremely useful) from both the national macro level, and from the firm/micro level.

This book is a unique contribution to business analysis, macroeconomic policy and political structures. It is rare to find a book which is applicable in the real world as much as in the academic one, and this one is also well-written and accessible.

Very pleased and well informed wannabe do-it-yourselfer.
I am an owner of a 1968 Ford Custom 500. Most of the time during my ownership, the car was my daily vehicle and I relied on others for my "baby's" repairs and upgrades. But I have since moved on, bought a new vehicle and all but forgot about my old 'boat'. Two years later, I found her where I left her and decided to fix her up. But I didn't even know how to change my oil, much less replace the brakes. End of story, I bought chilton's repair book. I am finding it easy to use and understand with clear details and numerous illustrations. It seems to be made with the novice in mind, but yet contains instructions for some of the hard stuff- engine overhaul anyone? So I feel the book has a little something for everyone. And that my money was well spent. If you are a novice or intermediate mechanic and own an old Ford ('68 to '83), this is the book for you.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies for Trauma

Great practical and scholarly guide to working in trauma
This book represents an exhaustive review of various cognitive-behavioral approaches to the treatment of trauma. It is scholarly and founded on strong scientific research without being pedantic or preachy. Amost every chapter has real-life clinical examples with actual narrative transcripts which can be quite compelling. I especially like the chapters on treating dysfunctional guilt and on dissociation, areas seldom discussed in traditional behavioral circles. All in all, I think this is a great addition to the library of any clinician dealing with emotional trauma.

What A Help For Fighting And Eliminating The Common Cold!
In this book, Dr.Sahelian and Ms.Toews advocate the use of Vitamin C, Echinacia, and Zinc Losenges as well as other vitamin supplements and herbal supplements to boost an individual's immune system to fight off the common cold or flu. If a simple course of the first three referenced items are used at the first symptoms of a cold, and are used several times a day, and for a couple of days thereafter, a common cold can be eradicated most quickly! I've tried Dr.Sahelian's formula and it works! If the cold cure formula is used in the later stages of a cold or flu, symptoms can be dramatically reduced!

This book is written in a very easy to read and use format. Much scientific evidence is provided to back up Dr.Sahelian's and Ms.Toews' claims. In addition, the authors provide a review of herbs used to boost the human immune system and other helpful advice on boosting one's immune system to fight off colds!

A must read for anyone with children who always bring home colds and viruses, or anyone with a compromised immune system. Actually this book could help anyone in fighting the common cold and flu! Nobody likes being sick and losing precious time to nursing a rotton cold! This book with its advice can help!

Fascinating, inspiring account veganism in real life
In a time when ethical nihilism seems rampant, this slim volume is a ray of hope. Moran investigates the history and modern day practice of ethical veganism, based firmly in compassion for all sentient life. People who are put off by the angry tone of some animal rights literature will find this book a welcome change: gentle, without compromising the animals' interests. Deservedly a classic.

Complete Book of Roller Skating
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (1979)
Author: Ann-Victoria Phillips
Amazon base price: $4.95
Used price: $6.50
Average review score:

As the title says, "complete."
The Complete Book of Roller Skating was published in 1979, before the fall of disco skating and the rise of inline skating. Still, this book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in quad roller skating. It covers skating's history in detail, with lots of great photographs, and devotes chapters to artistic, hockey, speed, disco, and outdoor skating.

Unlike most other skating reference books, this one talks about the competitive skating world (at least, as it was in 1979), not just about recreational skating. We see (in words and photos) skaters training for competition at Nationals and Worlds, performing such difficult moves as "the impossible sit spin," a pairs spin that requires amazing strength from both skaters.

The book also includes two chapters of skating lessons, from basic forward skating through spins and the salchow jump.

While recent skating developments can't be found here, and the book is long out of print, it is well worth purchasing if you can find a copy.
