Uplifting! A day brightener!
If you're stuck in one of life's pits or are weary from encouraging someone else who's there, this book is for you! It will lift your spirit and brighten your day. Not only does Jeanne Zornes have a fresh way of looking at Scripture, she brings men and women of the Bible to life right in your own home as if they were helping you do the dishes, giving you a hug, or babysitting your children. I felt like I personaly knew each one. And through their eyes, I saw my own life in a different light and realized that opportunitites to encourage and occasions to be encouraged are infinite.

Real-life applications, truthful insights and honest humor!
I was so impressed by this book...it was given to my husband and I as a wedding present and, at first, we were offended! But after reading it, we understood why all seriously dating, engaged and married couples should read it. It presents practical solutions to the often misunderstood (and highly romanticized) world of marriage.

At Last! Christian Science-Fiction!
Have you ever gazed at the stars and wondered if there really was life on other planets? Have you ever imagined the universe with God creating world after world of living beings, each with the capacity to know and worship Him? Than this is the book for you! Worlds Apart, by J. C. Miller, is a delightful, truly Christian, science-fiction novel. Prefaced with scripture, each chapter reveals simple yet profound truths about the "Creator" who lovingly and miraculously works in the lives of his creatures. It weaves a story of souls from three planets whose lives intertwine to bring freedom and redemption to longing hearts- and confrontation and destruction to an evil one. This book will let your imagination fly and your heart rejoice. A treat for the whole family!

Facing life again
About 7 months after my wife died physically (aged 44) someone lent me a copy of this book. It quite literally saved my sanity as it directed my grief to the only place I could be healed. Rather than just locking away (or freezing out etc) the pain.
It is a collection multiple small sections with little pieces of hard truth (tough love) with appropriate scriptures and then a prayer that matches your own pain. Truly inspired by the Holy Spirit.
It is the book that all churches should give to the recently widowed. I am going to track down a few copies so I can stat distributing them. Noone else had ministered to me in my pain this way this collection of thoughts, scriptures and prayers did.

This book took me on a journey.
I love journey books! John Steinbeck wrote that people don't just take journeys: journeys take people. The best journeys are not just trips but journeys of the soul, the journeys that trips take people on. Don Miller's was one such journey of a Christian who through his travels found a deeper relationship with God. I found Miller's writing style clever, poetic, at times funny. The book was a pleasure to read, and I hope he writes another book soon. I could relate to his spiritual problems. I too have wanted a deeper relationship with God but found that the more I tried, the more frustrated I got. Like Miller, I have slowly developed a deeper relationship through the everyday journey of life. Those people looking for a book filled with theology, scripture, moving testimony, and parables will be disappointed. This book doesn't smother the reader with Jesus, and in my opinion this is a strong point. Instead, the emerging and often surprising events and people he comes in contact with sometimes prompt the narrator to reflect on biblical truths. I could really imagine taking this journey with the author. Does anybody out there have an old VW van you're willing to sell me?

Great book for the Journey.
There's something about the idea of "finding oneself" on the open road that really gets me going. I'm a sucker for any book along those lines, whether it's about a spontaneous summer road-trip across the States, or the tale of an epic backpacking journey around the world. There's a special place in my heart for the somewhat rare Christian-themed story of this nature, and that's where this excellent book comes in.

Adventures like this tend to be lived out by the younger crowd - those in their late teens or early twenties, anxious to see what's "out there" in the world and learn something about themselves in the process. In "Prayer and the Art of Volkswagon Maintenance," the two protagonists fit this description to a tee. Donald and Paul are young twentysomething Christian men, and they have a desire to know God in a deeper sense. Their solution - a road trip! Starting from Texas, they decide to head off to Oregon in Paul's beat-up VW van. Along the way, they discuss the usual questions that young men wrestle with - relationships with women, their future, and so on. They also meet a number of interesting characters on the road, usually when struggling with their somewhat unreliable vehicle.

However, since this book has a Christian slant, there is spiritual depth as well. Both of these guys really do want to go deeper with God, and they end up digging into some serious meat along those lines. Donald, driven by intellect and facts, repeatedly explores the book of Ecclesiastes during the trip in an attempt to make sense of the time we are given upon this world. Paul is more in tune with his feelings and emotions, and goes to a deeper level with God via prayer during some tense moments. Together they make the perfect team for this type of excursion, and both come to know more about themselves and their God. All of this is expertly chronicled by Donald's outstanding writing - he made me feel that I was right along with them every step of the way.

The neatest thing about this book for me was their detour through my hometown, and the awesome consequence of that seemingly insignificant decision (SPOILER HINT: it has to do with marriage). How cool is that?! Absolutely recommended!

Honest and Interesting
I don't read many novels, but this one was well worth my time. It is unusual to find a Christian book that is so honest about disappointments and a yearning for something deeper with Christ. It was comforting to find someone else thinking through the same questions I have and watching them find answers. This book was engaging, funny ( I laughed out loud!), beautifully written, but most of all thought provoking. I highly recommend it to anyone who's tired of having a luke warm experience of GOD!

And The Plot Thickens...
'A Heart Full of Hope' is a really good Christy Miller book. I feel so bad for Christy on the beach..when Todd tells her. But, honestly dear, Rick is not the one to run to! Rick proves he's really not a very nice guy in this story. When you find out what he does... It'll change how you look at him. I love the poem at the end. It just perfectly describes all that Christy's been through. There's not much detail I can give about the plot without ruining it. So, READ IT! It's a great story.

heart full of hope is great
I don't think this is the best book in the serries because like someone already said I get mad at Rick. The first time I read it i really liked Rick and thought he was a great guy but then the second time I didn't like him and I got mad but It teaches you to save yourself for a really great guy like Todd. I recomend this book!

Really cool book
I thought A Heart Full of Hope was very good. I've read the whole Christy Miller Series and No. 6 was one of my favorites. It deals with real things that happens to real teens...

This Book Was a Real Eye Oener
This book is worth its weight in gold. I have read many books in the area of self-improvement, and I must say this one is of the top. The author gets very personal and talks openly about his own personal accountability. Even though it was lengthy read, I did not find this book repetitive. The book is written in a style that it sounds like John is talking to you one on one. It's contains very powerful ideas, while at the same time it is extremely practical. I fully endorse this book.

Very meaty - learned a lot!
This is Miller's precurser to his QBQ! The Question Behind the Question book and boy is there a lot of meat to it. Tons of great stories and it teach not only personal accountability at its core but also covers the ideas of learning, creativity, integrity, trust, service, etc. Excellent material for all - and especially to train on. We are using it in our management sessions and with grass roots employees, as well. When you read this book, study it. It's worth every minute.

Powerful stuff!
Enjoyed it! Our management team has studied this book a chapter at a time for months now. It provokes great discussion and has helped us learn as individuals what responsibility is REALLY all about. There are many stories that encourage personal application. We have now switched to Miller's new book titled "QBQ! The Question Behind the Question." We're using this one for staff throughout the firm. Same powerful core content on personal accountability but a quicker read at only 115 pages. It's his "Who Moved My Cheese Version?" and is right on target with its message, speed, and impact.

Moving in and moving on
A friend of mine was listening to Focus on the Family when Susan Miller was a guest on the program. My friend ordered the tape of the broadcast and sent it to me. (You can also download it off their web page for free).

After hearing Ms. Miller tell about her newcomers ministry, I went to the library and checked out her book. It was very good, albeit sometimes a little cheesy.

It's not just about the move itself, but loss/grief of the move and your identity, keeping your old friends, making new friends, keeping your marriage and family in tact, and trusting God all the way as you move forward to see what He has for you.

I plan to buy a copy for myself.

Helpful
The editing of this book is a little choppy, but still a quick read. Susan Miller addresses the roller coaster of emotions involved in any move. She not only identifies the struggles that many women encounter, but probes the heart to examine the root of these struggles. While I could have done without the exhaustive lists throughout the book, the content was truly eye opening and helped to guide me out of my moving funk.

Simply a wonderful book!
My husband purchased this book for me because I was having trouble accepting an upcoming move. At first I was hesitant because, after moving so many times, what else was there for me to learn? I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. It is a very easy read, and the author makes you feel as if she's speaking directly to you, understanding your fears and frustrations. This book can be especially helpful for someone facing their first move. And also be advised, this book is based on the Christian faith and relying on it to help you through your move. For me, it was a definite plus.

Whisper and a Wish!
My friend and I have read all the Christy books and we are addicted. A Whisper and a Wish was a great book, although not our favorite. If you've only read up to this book, and your not hooked....just wait! As you read more of the books, you will fall in love with the characters...becasue they just keep getting better as the books go on.

A Thrilled Reader!!!
I was instantly addicted to these wonderful books. They divinly relate to every young girl's life.I, personaly, was instantly captured with her obbesion with wanting to fit in. Something I have struggled with over and over again. All her thoughts and ambitions have in some way or another paralleled my own. When reading these books I became so enraptured by them I wanted to be Christy Miller! Mrs. Gunn, Thank you for your wonderful books, keep up the good work.

Change of hearts
Christy Miller's whole series is very spiritually upliftin. I have read every single book even the college years. I love reading as her relationship with Todd and with God grows and blossoms. It makes me sad that there are no more books in this series yet. I am hoping there will be more. I will write to the authour every day until there are because I feel the book helps me grow in my faith and I am still growing. Please read these books then write to the authour to encourage her to write more for this series. I know i should read the other series she writes but the only one i have is the sieraa Jensen one. This is because she writes so well it's hard to move on.
Written from the words of a "peculiar treasure".
