Stayed up all night to read about what happened to this boy.
I'm just a housewife in North Dakota with not much time to read. But once I started reading The Rawleigh Man Told Me in the evening I could not put it down until I found out what happened to this boy. I had heard about the Orphan Trains, but this is the first time I read a personal story about one of the passengers. I recommend this book to every family, especially to children who may not know how good they really have it. It touched my heart.

A must read
This book was tremendously helpful in revealing what's at the heart of sin...pride and unrepentance. These are not much talked about topics in our culture today. I was greatly stirred, challenged, and blessed by the author's simply written yet powerful words. A small volume, it can be read in a couple hours, but to benefit most from it you'll probably want to read it a little at a time. Chapter titles include "Repentance, the Foundation of Life", "Repentance and its Counterfeit", "What is True Repentance?", "Repentance and the Spirit-filled Life", "Repentance and the Carnal Christian", "Repentance-God's mercy". It deals with these topics in a clear, direct manner. This is a rare book that will revolutionize your Christian life. Read with an open heart and with prayer.

Robert Koga - The Man Behind the Legend

Amazon base price: $21.99

Must-Read for Law Enforcement and Martial Art Enthusiasts!
An amazing book! A Must-read for any law enforcement, martial arts or police enthusiast!

A living legend, Bob Koga spent 35 years in the LAPD, and studied under Aikido's distinguished Koichi Tohei. Koga served as the personal interpreter to Sensei Tohei during the Master's first visits, when Tohei revealed the secrets of Aikido to the United States (Koichi Tohei is the only person formarly awarded the rank of 10th Dan by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido).

Co-written by Koga's own students, this inspiring work includes gripping testimonies from law enforcement officers throughout the US, whose lives were saved because of their training under Koga. Bob Koga drew from his experience to develop and teach real-life arrest and control techniques to law enforcement officers for 45 years, so far! He was inducted into the martial arts Masters Hall of Fame in 2000. This book provides a unique insight into Koga's life, from childhood to the development of the philosophy behind Koga's dedication to professionalize law enforcement.

This is the personal story behind the legend that is Robert Koga.

If you love Rumpole, you'll love this!
Nobody reads Rumpole like Leo McKern! I love John Mortimer's Rumpole and this tape was great. Even though the fun of Rumpole is in the writing and the play on words, Leo McKern makes Rumpole come alive.

Unique Quilt book
There are 32 pages in this booklet, not 187 like stated. Colorful front & back covers illustrate the 12 blocks named for biblical women. Good idea for name sake quilts. Miriam, Eve, Sarah, Deborah, Ruth, Esther, Elizabeth, Mary & Martha, Lydia, Dorcas, Priscilla, and Mary. Very neat and original blocks. I love this book.

Send Help! : Delights, Dilemmas, and Delusions of a Modern Midwestern Man
Published in Paperback by PebbleTree Press (1999)
Authors: John C. Lorson and Kristin S. Lorson
Amazon base price: $11.00
Used price: $7.95

You've Got To Laugh to Keep from Crying!
If you have children, a spouse, or any family members at all, this book will make your face hurt! Lorson's poetic prose and love of language bring hilarious anecdotes to life, and offer something for everyone. John draws subject matter from real life situations, family and friends, and finds humor in all of them! His wife Kristin's simple cartoons are as amusing as the stories they illustrate. After a few chapters, I had the feeling that this couple can find the funny side of almost EVERYTHING, but also that funny things just seem to happen to them! As the tales of John's wife, kids, parents, friends, and many siblings unfold, I found myself alternating between feelings of kinship for the author, and total relief that our lives are so sane by comparison! You'll chuckle as John takes you into his home and reveals the details of his good-natured but very un-Martha Stewart-like wife's homemaking skills, the rites of passage of his children, and his own tightwad outlook on home improvement. And plenty of duck-hunting stories! Take time out for this light-hearted look at life!

SEX AND ALSO SPIRIT - DREAM COME TRUE!
I've read a lot of books on sexuality and a lot of books on spiritual themes - finally here's a wise and really insightful book on how the two go together. The human act of creation must be a spiritual act ... after all, who created us in the first place? But it seems sex has gotten so mundane - this book helps bring in the deeper parts of love ... and what a rush!

Well, sometimes I've felt just totally trascendent when making love, but usually I haven't known how to go to that amazing expanded place during sex, where there's no difference between me and my true love, and we just blast off into some infinite place that is definitely spiritual. Now I know - it's a secret everyone should know, which is why I'm writing these notes.

Selby is a psychologist who really knows how our minds and our spirit work together, and his book explains real simply what the mystic experience during orgasm is all about. He also teaches totally pragmatic ways to help a spiritual experience happen, every time you make love ... many thanks to him!

What I was especially surprised and happy to learn about, was that we can act on our own to finally heal old heartbreaks that get in the way of really opening up to our new love - that's where this book most helped me, since I'd just come out of a real heartbreak, and I'm mostly over it now, thanks to this book.

The other thing I learned from reading Sex and Spirit and then working with the inner programs of the book is that right when we're making love, we can consciously shift into special states of mind where we let go of worries, tune into the present moment, and allow some deeper natural force or whatever to "move us" together toward orgasm.

And one other thing that's really great are the chapters on letting go of trying to be a good lover, and also letting go of fantasies while making love - so that you're fully "here" and the pure experience just overwhelms ... I can't say all of this as good as the author does, he's definitely an expert on sexuality and he's also just very kind and patient in his teachings ...

Enjoying wild sex and deep spiritual feelings at the same time ... that's about as good as life gets - and this book is definitely the hands-on manual for really opening up and letting your whole soul merge with your lover. I give this ten stars!

The sharp end : the fighting man in World War II
Published in Unknown Binding by ()
Author: John Ellis
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

The best book of it's type I have encountered.
G.K. Chesterton said that "a...rational army would run away" and this book shows, better than any other that I have read, why it should and why, so often, it doesn't. In a field that includes Keegan's 'Face Of Battle' this is high praise.

Focusing on the experiences of the ordinary Western Allied soldier during the Second World War Ellis discusses the circumstances affecting the lives of the front line soldier from recruitment through training and combat to his eventual fate.

Ellis examines the detail of what was actually happening to the individual Tommy or GI, using many first hand accounts and an appropriate admixture of statistics, without ever becoming heavy going or gratuitously gory. Where there are blood and tears they are there because that is how it was. This approach enables a number of popular myths about the war to be examined in a clearer light. His comparison of the experiences of members of the rifle companies of an infantry battalion during the Second World War with his predecessor of 1914-18 is especially illuminating as is his analysis of what actually keeps soldiers fighting.

I found the book impossible to stop reading and was left with a feeling of great sadness, profound respect for individuals who kept going in circumstances that I personally would find overwhelming and a greater understanding of the mechanics of war that tend to sink below the magnification of many conventional military histories. If you have any interest in the subject matter at all, or possibly in the reaction of ordinary people to extraordinary circumstances, you should read 'The Sharp End'.
