good basics for young readers
A good overview for young readers that has a little bit about the history of Mehndi, plus the how-to in an easy to understand format. It has a few design ideas, some good "recipes" and resources for materials. It also has reminders to ask permission from parents. Overall, a fun activity book that encourages creativity. Adults might enjoy it too, especially at such a reasonable price!

Highly recommended reading for body painting enthusiasts.
The Art of Mehndi provides a basic primer on the art of Mehndi body painting, from lists of needed supplies to instructions on how to make your own henna paste for producing them. Sample designs and tips on original designs are geared to young adult audiences but many an adult interested in body painting will find this excellent.

Blood Extracts A Heavy Price
The darkness that lurks in any man is the theme of this interesting and sometimes, erotic, thriller. The sex is relegated to a secondary role in order for the author to focus on the dark forces in any man. Any person can be driven to kill in the right circumstances; the real question is just how far do you have to push someone.

The mother of his old love, Mrs. Longten, contacts Robert. Mrs. Longten, overwhelmed by emotion, tearfully tries to tell him of Dana's breakdown and hospitalization in the nearby Levinson Institute. According to Mrs. Longten as well as the treating physician, Dr. Morgan, Dana has attempted suicide several times over the last few years. According to everything Robert is told, a violent, suicidal Dana who won't speak has replaced the happy Dana that he knew and secretly loved. Her only sign of communication is her artwork in which she repeatedly draws pictures of Robert.

Robert agrees to see Dana in an attempt to help her. It turns out that she always loved him as well and the sight of him appearing before her changes her outlook on everything. She reacts to Robert completely differently than what he was led to believe she would do and he can see the old Dana, the one he knew and loved, lurking within the terrified woman.

While Dana is definitely in trouble, her situation is far different than what he was led to believe by all involved. With almost no one to help him he must try to figure out exactly what is going on. Along with trying to help Dana he also must find some way to resolve some of the past involving her and his brother Dennis.

With roots in the past stretching tentacles into the present, this is an interesting and complex thriller. It is dark, but very enjoyable and has a rather surprising twist at the end. If your only interest is in sex acts on the printed page, then this one is really not for you. But if you are interested in a complex story probing the limits of love and humanity, then this one is right for you.

Great stuff from the CEO of Brainpan Publishing
1. [The] characters are wonderful especially psycho chick.
2. The settings were great. I love to camp.
3. The twist at the end is just so perfect...
4. Blood IS thicker than water, but beer is better than both of them.
5. [This is] an excellant writer, one that everyone should have a crack at reading.
6. Wish it were longer (the book).

A good collection of thoughts, well expressed
I borrowed this book from a fellow traveller in China, nine years ago. Though not that deep an investigation it raises some stimulating questions and achieves it's goal of showing similarities in what for many, are different fields of investigation.

I wrote the title and ISBN down at that time I borrowed it and have been looking for the book ever since. It deserves to come back into print.

A thoughtful book of dialogue between science and religion.
Renee Weber, a philosophy professor, has compiled this fascinating volume comprised of her dialogues with such diverse figures as physicists David Bohm and Steven Hawking, as well as the Dalai Lama, Fr. Bede Griffiths & Lama Anagarika Govinda. Sensitive, thought provoking & highly recommended!

A comprehensive reference guide
I am a critical care paramedic student in Canada. We have to take an aerospace medicine cource during our first year of studies. This was the required text. It is a complete guide to providing ALS in the aeromedical environment. Not only does it cover topics exclusive to flight medicine, it is also a good reference for other areas of medicine. I use it constantly to look up facts for my other courses. The case studies are excellent. They deal with complex pathologies and treatments. The care is directed at a critical care level. My only complaint would have to be the dated appearance of the text. A little more color would help to make the text more pleasing to the eyes. However, the quality of the information does not suffer.

Excellent for Critical Care Level providers
If you aren't at least an advanced care paramedic don't bother reading further because this book is not for you.

This book is becoming very scarse these days, which is too bad. This is a top quality book that has a lot of top quality information. The book is smaller in dimensions than many other medical texts but it has 900p of info. The hardcover makes it a lasting resource. If you are fortunate enough to have this book, keep a pen and notepad nearby because you'll want to take notes while reading. All the standard chapters that you would find in any medical textbook are here (cardiovascular, patient care, trauma, medical, environmental, etc). This book provides a comfortable level of new information that won't boggle down the seasoned paramedic.... too much.

ALS medics & nurses will benefit from this book. I believe this book is almost a universal text in the critical care programmes. This provides a fantastic introduction into the flight medicine industry. Don't get thrown off by the word "nursing" in the title. I got laughed at it when others saw me reading it. This book would be a valuable tool for any paramedic because it familiarizes them with this area of medicine. We all need continuing education anyways.

If you want a laugh, show this book to a friend, not in the medical profession, and let them try and pronounce some fo the terms that are common throughout the book.

review by a bereaved parent
We lost a young child to leukemia, and it is difficult to explain the existence of an older sibling to our children who were born after her death. With that goal, I read this book to my 2 year old daughter.

In the book, Jackie Jack is an infant who becomes sick, spends time in the hospital, then goes home with his parents, where he reaches for a light and jumps into the arms of angels; then his parents climb a mountain, where they feel his love in the sunlight, the breeze, a rainbow. The book is based on a true story; Jackie Jack's parents released his ashes at the top of a mountain.

As a mother, I found the book very touching in its simplicity. At least I thought it was simple (read on!). I particularly liked the picture of Jackie Jack's mother sleeping with him in the hospital bed, because I used to do that. It was also appropriate for us because we brought our child home to die.

My two year old had problems with the pictures, which carry some messages that are not in the text. After Jackie Jack dies, he is alternately shown as an angel or as heart symbols. She found this confusing: In the heart pictures, she asked, "Where's the baby?" That was a wonderful opportunity to talk about his spirit leaving his body. I could have done without the angels, since we havn't taught her to think of dead people as flying around with wings. To her it looked as if the baby was alive again. She pointed to the halo and asked "what's this?"

I personally had a problem with the fact that the hospital bldg is drawn with a white cross on top; I would have preferred a non-denominational medical symbol. Also, the picture on the mountain top shows an urn with hearts flowing out of it. Fortunately, my 2 year old didn't notice the urn and ask about it, because cremation is not approved in our religion (the text does not mention it). However, this is not a generic book designed for readers of all faiths and practices: this is Jackie Jack's story.

I felt that the book -is- appropriate for parents trying to tell a young child about a sibling who died, if you are comfortable with these images.

Jackie Jack the Brave Little Boy
If you have had the gravest misfortune to have lost a child to cancer or have known someone close who has, this short book will resonate deep within your center of being.

Beautifully illustrated and marvelously told, the book shares the story of the short life of an infant with leukemia. It is written in a way one would expect to tell a child about the loss of a brother or sister.

I literally stumbled upon the book while hiking in the mountains. It had been placed in a safe haven in the rocks by his parents with an accompanying journal. They gave an open invitation to anyone who stumbled upon it to express themselves freely. (I think the journal entries themselves would make for an inspiring book)

Every night when I walk my dog and look up at "Jack's mountain", I think of that truely brave little boy and wonder how I can love my own children more and more each day.

informative and helpful for families visiting the Vineyard.
Magic time is full of ideas and suggestions to make your vacation a fun and memorable one for your whole family.

Excellent resource if you have kids, especially 6-12 yrs.
This book has many unique ideas for activities with children. It also includes information about summer camps (for summer visitors) and other programs (ie arts and crafts, sports programs, family programs) and beach information. A great reference, and easy to read. We leave a copy every year in our beach house for renters to borrow and it always gets stolen :(

Aid for studying Spanish
I am a church musician who is studying Spanish partly so I can worship with and connect with the many people in our urban parishes who are Hispanic. This book is just what I was looking for. It is a nice size, easy to read, the English on one page and the Spanish equivalent on the opposite page. Although it is Catholic in content and I am Lutheran, it contains parts of the worship service and many concepts that are common to both. At this price it could be a wonderful gift for children or parents of young children.

Excellant
I am a student preparing for a college course who also has a 8 year old. We read this and really enjoyed it

BEST RESOURCE & HELP
I ordered this whole package a few weeks ago and it hasn't dissapointed me yet. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because I'm not done with ALL the information it has to offer!!!

It gives complete information, direction, and planning anyone just starting out in the business needs.

QuickPlan/Salon & Day Spa 2001
I, like the other reviewer, have yet to finish the whole workbook. Of course, if you are working on such a business plan, you have to give yourself time. I think atleast six months. There is a LOT of data gathering required on your part. You can not simply copy everything the book says, word by word and insert it into your own business plan. You must be able to support your idea with strong financial and statistical data. Start your research ASAP.

However, this book gives a great insight on how a Salon/Spa Business Plan should look like. My biggest advice: Pace yourself. If you need a Plan in a few weeks, I suggest get a consultant and be prepared to pay some heavy $$$.
Otherwise, work each day on one section of the book. There are wonderful samples and scenerios. I have yet to see such a comprehensive Business Plan.
Also, remember, have factual data to back up all your information.

Good Luck!

Salt
These poems really touched me in that way that makes me wish I had written them myself - but glad that she did because I could never do them the same service. Salt is such a great motif in this collection. Salt like the way women sweat. Like that taste, sometimes pleasant sometimes painful of it on your lips. I ordered another copy. There's a man I'm seeing that needs to read this book.

Salt is superb
Ashley's first collection is a must-read for anyone interested in contemporary American poetry. Her sight is unusual and strong; in these poems exist humor, landscape, monologue, strong and compelling narrative, a touch of the metaphysic, an attentive compassion and care, a tenderness as well as a brutality, enticing musics, the lyric, an eye toward the sublime. The poems are varied and yet compelling as a group, well-rendered and taut. Ashley's voice is powerful and distinct. Read Salt.
