Review of Functionally Graded Materials
This book is the single leading authority on functionally graded materials. It is the result of a comprehensive, multi-year effort by several dedicated researchers and engineers. Unlike many books which have numerous editors, this book reads as if it has been written by one author -- it is cohesive and the writing flows well, even though it is terse. The bibliography is enormous and by itself represents a unique collection in this area.

Even though functionally graded materials have been utilized by people for hundreds of years, it is only lately that it has been realized that material advances may be made by bringing together the many materials disciplines that work on functionally graded materials. This book accomplishes such a unification.

A tender look at death and friendship
I work with grief and divorce workshops with children. I go through tons of literature trying to find something pertinent and helpful. This book is incredible. I still can't read it without tearing up a bit and Ive read it to the kids a hundred times. Helps them know they are not alone and that death is not their fault. I highly recommend this book almost as much as Max Lucado's You Are Special.

Friends and cooking a great mix
I bought this book for my best friend. I ended up having to get another one because I wanted to keep one for myself. I thought that the recipes and the segments about frienship are so true. In times when it is so hard to see who is real or not this book tells you that friends especially your girlfriends are always there. There is always something comforting about being able to go to a friend and talk or cook with her. Besides your husband gets to be the recipient of the dishes that you bake and cook.

A pleaser for your friend or yourself!
I once read an article by a woman who declared that real friendships can only be developed in one's youth. What a sad thought! And so untrue. I made my bestfriend after the age of 30, and I'll keep making new friends as long as I live. I think if you enjoy people, there will always be opportunities for more friends. I bought a copy of this gift book for my best friend because I love her so much, and I also love words and books. It is only because she is my best friend, that I am willing to give it up. This lovely, thought-provoking volume hallmarks the friendships that women experience. It enhances one of the values of being a woman beautifully: the closeness we feel to our women friends. Is there anything else like it? Being silly, listening, encouraging, empathazing, sharing thoughts that would abhor men. It makes you really glad to know that so many of us just love being inside the skin of a woman! This little gem shares quotes from unidentified women about their friends. Here is a sampling: "The more we let our girlfriends know how much they are valued, the stronger our friendships grow." "The bond that we forged so many years ago is now unbreakable." "Every healthy, loving relationship between two people requires that both individuals be able to tolerate the differences between them." "A true friendship is in trouble when you pick and choose what you reveal." "All we may need is a friend to share her strength , and we can become clear-headed again." "We share our vulnerabilities with each other and come away stronger." "Regardless of culture or time or distance, women bond together through laughter, dares, and crazy plans." There, now that I've saved some of my favorite quotes, perhaps I can give this volume up to my friend, Cheryl.

Priceless source book
This is a beautiful volume with complete and authentic research, covering nearly 2 centuries of Remington, America's oldest firearms manufacturer. The serious collector will appreciate the fine photography by Paul Goodwin showing minute details of all models of revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, including presentation pieces. Students of military history and western Americana will find this to be a priceless source book. Well done, having been co-sponsored by the Cody Firearms Museum and the Remington Society of America.

My daughter's favorite schoolbook
Everyone compliments my daughter on her beautiful handwriting. She used this book the second half of third grade, and is nagging me to find the "next" one. Fun and useful, and at the end they can actually *learn* something, too.

Heirs of the Greek Catastrophe: The Social Life of Asia Minor Refugees in Piraeus
Published in Paperback by Berghahn Books (1998)

Sociological Account of Asia Minor Refugees
Hirschon's book gives an account of the social life of the Asia Minor refugees. As a student of the classics I was impressed by the parallels with ancient Greek culture (although I won't make any grand claims about continuity over the millenia because I don't know very much about the intermediate history). A very good book if you're interested in learning about the traditional Greek lifestyle. Challenges the notion that urban/modern life and traditional/religious life are necessarily opposed. Because the population of Greece was so radically increased by the influx of refugees from Asia Minor (which destroyed continuity of Greek inhabitation of Asia Minor going back to antiquity) it is one of the most important events in modern Greek history. One of the strongest points of the book, I think, is the extensive quoting of phrases Hirschon heard uttered by the people on the street, often with the modern greek alongside her translation. These little sayings give a lot of insight into how the refugees made sense of their world, and are often pithy and enjoyable in their own right.

Great and refreshing
A wonderful story, with a touch of nonexcessive humor. Very nice.
And the refreshing part is - no sexual scenes. The story and the emotions rule the book, which sets this apart from others. I'm going to keep mine.

It was full of love and laughter!
This was great!!! Renee Roszel has really out done herself. The book and it's characters seem to come to life. Elissa's character was the best out of all of the books that Renee Roszel wrote. The book is a real keeper!!!!!!
