Just buy it
This is a truly amazing book. The artwork is superb and the text is excellent. It combines legends from Babylon, Greece, Phoneican, Egyptian, Welsh, Scottish and English legends all crammed into one excellent and comprehensive guide. I can't say how great this book is. Just buy it and you will see

Great
This is an excellent book for all ages. It is highly illustrated with many different types of mythilogical creatures. These categories include: mythical birds, dragons and serpents, half-human creatures and mythilogical animals. The only problem is that it is fairly expensive for it's size but it's worth it. I paid $25 for it, well I should say my dad did but anyway it is an excellent book.

Beautiful pictures and excellent text
This book has fabulous illustrations and good text. A wonderful selection for anyone into myth and legend.

This man was a revolutionary internationalist fighter
In the past 10-15 years, an attempt has been made to blend Malcolm X into the general bland opinion of middle class and bourgeois class dominated Black thought. The movie about Malcolm by Spike Lee that excerpted the political struggle he carried out in his last year contributed to this attempt to hide Malcolm's revolutionary impact. Read these speeches and you see something different. Malcolm X did not look to join with America, but to join with fighters around the world from Vietnam to the Congo, from Brazil to China who were fighting American imperialism. He worked with fighters like Che Guevera and brought himself to the battlegrounds of civil rights in the south. Malcolm's speeches increasingly emphasized the different between "the house nigger" and the "field nigger," and he was proud to be for the later category as the leadership of the black struggle.
Read his own words. Malcolm X was a revolutionary.

His Own Words, the Way he wanted them!
his book of Malcolm X's Speeches was begun while Malcolm was alive with the publisher and the editor that
Malcolm selected, and speeches he wanted in the book. This is the Spanish edition of the the book that begins the series of books by Malcolm X published by Pathfinder Press in collaboration with his family as more speeches, interviews, and talks by Malcolm X have been discovered. The aim here is to put Malcolm X's words first. Read them for yourself. Find out why Malcolmwas a reasoned, passionate, but uncompromising opponent of US imperialism's wars against oppressed peoples, in Africa, in Vietnam, in the Mid-East. Malcolm can really inspire you about the fights we need.

Wonderful that these speeches are available in Spanish!
This book presents a selection of the speeches of Malcolm X, an outstanding revolutionary leader who emerged from the struggles of millions of Afro-Americans against racism in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Although he was assassinated in February 1965, Malcolm X left us an invaluable example and political legacy.

Malcolm X linked the struggle within the United States with the struggles of other oppressed peoples in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Just read his denunciations of U.S. intervention in the Congo, in Vietnam and the Middle East in those days -- and think today of Colombia, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Iran, the Philippines...

I particularly enjoyed the following speeches from this book: "I'm not an American but a victim of Americanism," (University of Ghana, May 1964); "Our problems and those of Africa are the same," (Harlem, November 1964); "Learn to see, to listen and to think for yourself," (Harlem, January 1965); "We seek a solution that will benefit the masses, not the upper class'" (Detroit, February 1965); and the article "The meeting between Malcolm X and Fidel Castro," (Hotel Teresa, Harlem, September 1960).

Incredibly enlightening. I've read dozens of healing books, but this has to be number one in practical approaches to heal others.

Super book for those wishing to heal body, mind, and spirit
This book is very informative in the art of healing the body, mind, and spirit through the use of energy. It deals with the healing of physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects with the use of energy from the universe that is available to anyone with the desire to use it. What makes this such a good book is that the author passes on information to others with actual examples from his own healing experiences. A very good read!

Great!!!!!
Malcolm Southwood has saved my life. Read this accounting of his practice and then give his office in West Plam Beach a call. Malcolm travels so he can be seen in New York, Baltimore, etc.. Read this book and HEAL!!!

great scientifically based book for everyone
This book explores the healing aspects of faith in terms of scientific evidence. As the director of Duke University's Center for the Study of Religion/Spirituality and Health, the author, Dr. Harold Koenig, has become an expert in this discipline and shares everything he has learned in this very fascinating and informative book. Through his medical background and through fifteen years of dedicated research and after over 50 research studies Koenig provides a strong argument for the healing power of faith. From the very start, it is made clear that this is not a book claiming the miracles of God but rather is a book "concerned with concrete data" to "investigate the therapeutic or healing power of people's religious faith." Some of the findings from this data are that people who have a strong faith have healthier lifestyles possibly due to religions encouragement of proper and healthy conduct. Religious people also cope well with stress, are less likely to be depressed and hospitalized than their non-religious counterparts, have a stronger immune system, and live longer. Other important research, conducted by people other than Koenig's team, are included in this book as well. This book is quite comprehensive in its review of all the literature out there on the healing power of faith.

The book is filled with poignant personal stories that help illustrate the scientific findings. The stories are of depression, alcoholism, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other medical conditions. One such story is of Morty, a man who had been walking around with an blood alcohol level of 3.5. Morty was delivered to a detoxication unit where he stopped drinking on the first day of arrival and had an almost painless physical withdrawal from alcohol because he believed in the grace of God. Each story is as heartwarming and as inspiring as the one before. I loved how these stories were so smoothly used in adjunct with the scientific findings. It is definitely an effective blend of real life to which we all can relate and science from which we all can learn.

Another great thing about this book is that at the very end it offers suggestions to how one can benefit from the Power of faith. It is separated into three different parts: 1) if you are already religious, 2) if you are not religious, and 3) if you simply are not yet ready to consider religion. This is very nice because it offers suggestions for everyone not only those who are religious and are already benefiting.

A definite plus to this book is that is it easy reading. Although it deals with real scientific research the entire book is very readable. One does not get bored with scientific jargon. In fact the book is very engaging and I finished it in one night. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is interested in this subject. We all can learn from it, religious people and atheists alike.

Heart warming book
Heart warming book that beautifully combines scientific data with personal stories. Koenig writes well, keeps your interest, and brings medical research to an understandable level. His point is clear--faith is good for your health.

Moving and informative
A fascinating book that kept my attention throughout. Nice blend of personal stories that illustrate some remarkable research. Recommend highly.

The Holy Grail: Its Origins, Secrets, & Meaning Revealed
Published in Hardcover by Penguin Studio (1994)
Author: Malcolm Godwin
Amazon base price: $25.00
Used price: $8.00
Average review score:

Scholars Are As Scholars Do
I am a little disturbed at Kirkus Reviews' and others' statement that this is not a scholarly work. Don't be fooled. Mr. Godwin is clearly a master of the source material and has presented it in the context most likely to impart understanding to an open-minded reader. His sources and related materials are included in an extensive bibliography. The maps, diagrams, and broad, beautiful selection of artworks are the result of obviously deep and careful study. Typography and page ornaments are selected and placed to harmonize with the text and graphics with a discernment rare in our age. If this is not the result of "scholarship," the word has no meaning. Anyone with more than a passing interest in art, history, literature, or religion should have this book.

A Beatiful book!
Although the book is a little scanty at first. Things became more clearer in the ending.. I liked the punchline at the end of the book, as it clearly demonstrates what we (humanity) have forgotten. This is definetly not scholarly work, one should be aware of that. But the message it sends about how women have been treated through history, and our unquestioning behaviour about our social system, should require a listening to. I read Parzival by Wolfram von Eschenbach shortly after i read this book, and found it to be really inspirational both spiritualy and mentally. I also found Malcolms book to be a bit New Age'y, but still i found to be really universal in it's message.

A magical new look at a very old story
If nothing else, this is an extraordinarily beautiful book. Holding it and browsing through the chapters is almost magic in itself. The artwork is stunning, from rich reproductions of medieval art that not only enhance the text but contain stories of their own, to more contemporary works such as Alan Lee's Grail Knight and Thomas Gotch's Girl Enthroned. Looking at the age-old symbols on these pages fires the imagination and unleashes an unused, forgotten part of the brain (it's a must-have for artists and writers). Although scholars might argue with some of Godwin's assertions (for example, that the Cathar heretics were familiar with Tarot cards), the author does a phenomenal job of tying together many seemingly disparate elements of mysticism in a way that makes immediate sense. Being scholarly isn't the point; this kind of synthesis in which one takes what has gone before and remixes it with current thinking is what evolution is all about. Godwin's explanation of how the Grail legends grew out of the spiritual and political culture of the Middle Ages deserves contemplation. It is not just history; it is a commentary on the times in which we live. In providing a healing formula for changing centuries-old habits and patterns that have resulted in a dysfunctional society and the destruction of our natural world, Godwin is laying the groundwork for a transformational process, one that is independent of religion, nationality or social class. If this all sounds too New Age-y for you, then just enjoy the pretty pictures and the history of one of the most enduring legends of all time. The tales of King Arthur and the Quest for the Holy Grail are still among the most entertaining stories anywhere. I double dare you, however, to remain unchanged after reading this book. One doesn't so much read it as experience it. And it's a downright uncanny experience. If the Holy Grail exists, here is your map to find it.

This book is a wonderful manual for a person who wants to start gardening the Natural Way. I have read the book cover to cover and continue to refer to it each time I encounter something new in my yard. Outstanding organics manual in plain english.

Knowing Me, Knowing You: A Multiple-Choice Quiz for Engaged Couples

Great communication tool!
This is a clear, easy to manage tool for getting communication going about issues that arise in a marriage. Many times at the beginning of a relationship, we unknowingly assume many outcomes to important matters and therefore don't discuss them. After 22 years of marriage, I can say that being aware of similarities and differences and discussing how to handle these differences will help maintain open, honest communication. This quiz is an effective, non-threatening way to begin a healthy marital relationship. Thank you for providing a resource to help us remember the importance of communication as well as providing a way to accomplish this.

Knowing Me Knowing You
As a former Pastor and now the President of a global ministry, I was delighted to discover Knowing Me, Knowing You. This will be an invaluable resource for all of us who continue to do pre and post marital counselling. I will definitely recommend it to my peer group as a "must have".

Carol and Malcom have identified the key areas of potential marital conflict and articulated a series of questions which will help any couple considering marriage uncover their differences and establish a positive atmosphere in which the couple can succeed.

One of the glossed over phrases in the traditional marriage ceremony is "marriage is not to be entered into lightly, but thoughtfully." The frequency with which couples break their marriage vows shows clearly that the joy and delight of falling in love and planning a wedding pushed aside the need of discovering each other just as seriously.

In today's self help and how to society, this delightful book will guide the couple through the discovery process.

For those of us already married, it is also a way to keep discovering each other through the various stages of marriage and individual growth. My wife and I plan to go through the questions together on a regular basis.

I also appreciated the caution of the authours in that just taking a quiz does not guarantee marital success. The last line of the conclusion sums it up best: "May the work you put into your marriage lead to a lifetime of love." Just taking a quiz does not guarantee marital success. It will, however, help you discover the "make or break issues" which must be resolved prior to marriage.

Thank you, Carol and Malcom, for giving us a tool to help preserve one of the most valuable entities of any society, strong and healthy marriages.

President, GlobalTalk

Great for married couples too!
After being married for nine years, I thought I knew everything about my husband. However, after reading this book and taking the quiz myself I found out things about my husband that were very enlightening. The discussion surrounding some of these issues helped us grow closer and we now have a deeper and renewed understanding of one another. It's a great book for us married couples too!

Last Year of Malcolm X: The Evolution of a Revolutionary

The Real Malcolm In His Last Year
This excellent little book traces the evolution of the thought and action of Malcolm X in the last eleven months of his life.Malcolm rejected the anti-Semitism and anti-woman policies of the Nation of Islam, and its refusal to involve itself in the civil rights movement. He continued to more and more place the Black struggle in this country in the world context : in the context of the struggle of the workers and farmers in Asia , Africa, and Latin America against imperialism, Yanki imperialism in the first place. He continued to expose the role of the Democratic Party to fool the masses of working people into thinking that we have a friend among our oppressors and exploiters. More and more, he spoke out against capitialism as the cause of racism and described himself unabashedly as pro-socialist.He spoke of the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cuban revolutions as examples of what we working people must do HERE for the future of all humanity. The author is no academic ' observer'; he covered Malcolm's evolution for The Militant newspaper, the only place Malcolm's speeches were published in full and undistorted after he left the Nation of Islam. This book is an excellent companion volume to read alongside Malcolm's actual speeches, also published by Pathfinder Press.

Malcolm in action
I was surprised when I read this book. It gives Malcolm X's speech announcing his political program for fighting for Black control of the black community and Justice. I didnt know what that was before I read it. I read the talk Malcolm gave introducing the program and he talks about how he was supposed to bring Che Guevara up to the meeting, but Che couldn't make it. Heavy Stuff. Breitman is pretty good at defending Malcolm X against critics and showing what the man stood for without imposing his own views on him. We need to see how Malcolm X was in action to get a better idea how we can advance the struggle.

The best book on Malcolm X
This short book is the best book ever written on Malcolm, although it is modest. It seeks to document the changes in Malcolm's ideas in the last years of his life. It also includes Malcolm's Speech introducing his program for the Organization of Afro-American Unity which besides outlining his idea for a political struggle in the Black community, documents Malcolm's collaboration with Cuban Revolutionist Che Guevara. Also included is the program of the OAAU.
Breitman, a long-time revolutionist, was one of the first people who called attention to the revolutionary significance of Malcolm and the Muslims. He is the editor Malcolm chose to put together Malcolm X Speaks. Breitman's concern is with the view that Malcolm did not do anything signficant, particularly in the African American struggle, between his expulsion from the Muslims and his murder. Instead, he shows how the amount of work Malcolm did to energize and organize struggle both inside the US and abroad, is how to believe and documents what Malcolm did.
He also comments on how Malcolm realised he needed to sharpen his critique of the Nation of Islam and Elijah Muhammed, something that is shown in February 1965: The Final Speeches, a collection of Malcolm's speeches and interviews from the last month of his life.

Malcolm X on Need for Uncompromising Struggle
In re-reading Malcolm X Speaks, I'm struck by how well he understood the viciousness of the U.S. system of oppression and how clearly he expressed the need for all-out, uncompromising struggle against it. The capitalist class lashed out at Malcolm X for these speeches, not just because he criticized their system, but because he dared to awaken the oppressed to their unconquerable human potential. Fighters from all over the world have studied this book, members of Sinn Fein in Ireland, farmers fighting foreclosure, opponents of police brutality, and supporters of the embattled Palestinians. Sharing the lessons of this book will advance our struggle!

a teacher and example for all workers
Don't just read what people have to say about Malcolm X! Read what he had to say - about the American system, about internationalism, about racism. This collection begins in November 1963, right before Malcolm X was silenced and expelled by the Nation of Islam, and extends to a couple of days before his assassination in February 1965.
