Fusion Management: Harnessing the Power of Six Sigma, Lean, ISO 9001:2000, Malcolm Baldrige, TQM and Other Quality Breakthroughs of the Past Century

NOW IT ALL COMES TOGETHER
There have been so many management and quality theories over the years - but nobody has told us how they all fit together - in fact they always bad mouth different programs. This book tells how different quality philosophies build on one another. It also has real world examples of how to effectively implement ISO, Six Sigma and "Fusion Management". With the current economy and layoffs I'm ready to use the roadmap to get my company back on track. It is a good quick read, with interesting case studies (I read it on a four hour flight). It may be the most usable business book I've read in quite a long time.

The German Shepherd Dog, Its History, Development, and Genetics

Historically known as the "bible" in GSD Breeding
Gives a solid understanding of the genetics behind breeding German Shepherd Dogs. For those interested in taking their knowledge even further, Willis has provided us with authors and books throughout his book that go into more depth on any particular point of interst (although unneccessary, as Willis provides all the knowledge necessary to make educated decisions in a breeding program designed for controlled breeding of quality German Shepherd Dogs).
I recommend this book to any breeder (beginner or experienced), and also suggest his 1992 re-write.

Absolutely essential time management and organization primer
This book was an inspiration that started me on a successful top management career. I've used this book in several leadership roles, over a 20-year period, as an motivational primer to set subordinates on a path to self-management and achievement. It's a quick and easy guide on how to get things done and to simplify your life too. Beats all of the other how-to books on time management that I've read, combined. Some of the basic management skills never change, no matter what the latest popular trend or fad.

Unseen Links Bind Distant People, Locations
The world we live on is one planet. It's a simple, obvious observation, but Waters seems to spend much time illustrating this idea. But his view of globalization is not quiet so simple. That we share the same space is a geometrical given. He illustrates even in his preface that people throughout the world have become interrelated. "Tasmanians know that they live on one planet because other people's aerosol sprays have caused a carcinogenic hole in the ozone's layer over their heads, because their relatively high rate of unemployment is due to a slump in the international commodities markets, because their children are exposed to such edifying role models as Robocop." He seems to illustrate that for better or worse; humans throughout the planet are now inextricably linked to one other on economic, political and culture levels. These links are span the global based on their mobility. Waters defines their mobility according to their nature: "material relationships localize, power relationships internationalize and symbolic relationships globalize." Economy for him has a high level of symbolic mediation because it is intrinsically entwined with 'symbolic tokens' that would originally have been money, under Giddens' description, but today extend to even less finite concepts. While cash in the form of coins or bills previously had a physical form, today, the concept of money or capital is, in many cases, just numbers on a transaction sheet. Waters views the economic realm as highly symbolic, highly fluid and highly globalized giving it the capable of moving most rapidly over the planet and subsequently the providing strong impetus for global interactions and subsequently globalization.

All I can say is WOW
This book by Malcolm Boyd is truly insightful. Death and dealing with different deaths are the main focuses, but the book weaves a tapestry that is neither simple nor surface. This book is not only for the elderly and is recommended reading for everyone.

His Own Words, the Way he wanted them!
This book of Malcolm X's Speeches was begun while Malcolm was alive with the publisher and the editor that Malcolm selected, and speeches he wanted in the book. This begins the series of books by Malcolm X published by Pathfinder Press in collaboration with his family as more speeches, interviews, and talks by Malcolm X have been discovered. The aim here is to put Malcolm X's words first. Read them for yourself. Find out why Malcolmwas a reasoned, passionate, but uncompromising opponent of US imperialism's wars against oppressed peoples, in Africa, in Vietnam, in the Mid-East. Malcolm can really inspire you about the fights we need.

Living Healthy
This book is, first of all, beautifully constructed. The colors of the pages and pictures are so serene that you don't feel overwhelmed. The author gives you wonderful advice to make you feel like you are living as healthy as possible. It makes me feel like I am weightless when I read this book. It's relaxing just to read and look at, even if you don't do the relaxation exercises.

One of the best books about Cosmic Rays Astrophysics
The two volumes of "High Energy Astrophysics" by M.S. Longair are amongst my favourite books: I read them several times and every time I found interesting hints for my work. I'm waiting for the third volume for 3 years, but it's still missing from the bookshelf...
The first volume ("Particles, Photons and Their Detection") focuses on the interactions between high energy particles and matter, in order to help the reader to understand how detectors work. The theoretical approach is deep enough not to hide the "dirty" steps of the calculations, and some subsection requires good mathematical skills (well, not as much as for Russian books ;-).
The second volume ("Stars, the Galaxy and Interstellar Medium") focuses on the Physics of cosmic rays (CR) while they run through the Galaxy. The author takes the occasion to explain several very exciting items, from the proposed mechanisms of CR acceleration and high energy photons emission, to the diffusion through the interstellar medium and the Solar wind, untill the CR reach the Earth. Special emphasis is given to open problems -- only very few of them were solved in the meantime (Nov. 2001).
The 2 volumes are well suited for advanced students in Physics or Astronomy, and are a good reference for researchers.
