Farmer's Garden
From Childrens Literature - Children's Literature Cheery illustrations are the strength of this poem about animal life in a garden. A wide-eyed Bernese Mountain Dog asks questions to a series of characters who inhabit the field. A strawberry, a bunny, a corn stalk, a cow, a chicken, a worm, a carrot, a beetle, a lizard, a radish, a deer, and even the farmer himself sing back their view from among the earthen rows. Along the way, we learn that strawberries dream of being plucked at their peak, that corn has ears, and that lizards delight in beetle dinners. Wanderers from other parts of the farm are warned by the farmer's dog not to trample or scratch the growing seeds. Repetition and wonderful words create interest-sparking alliteration. The series of questions creates the perfect opportunity for a second voice or reader. Onomatopoeia makes the reading come alive. Young readers will enjoy participating in the read-aloud, while very little ones will listen intently. 2000, Wordsong Boyds Mills Press, Ages 3 to 7, $15.95. Comprehensive, clear, documented
This is a really good book because it's packed with information that is scientifically documented, and at the same time it is written in simple words. It presents charts and many resources, for example places where you can find supplements, etc. All we have to do is really follow his suggestions!

The Future of the Cognitive Revolution

From a Computer Scientist to Cognitive Scientists
This is a very well organized collection of papers. It is written in a language that is accessible to a broad audience. The introductions to book sections are excellent (or, "masterful," as R. Taraban puts it in CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOLOGY, 1998, Vol. 43, No. 10, p. 681). The best thing about this book is its coverage of current issues and perspectives in Cognitive Science. I recommend this book as an introductory reading assignment for a graduate course in Artificial Intelligence.

David Shannon does it again!
Wow, what a book! I fell in love with the graphics first and then the book. David Shannon is a talented illustrator as well as an inventive author. This picture book will charm older children (and adults) of all ages. The lessons hidden in this wonderful story about how baseball was saved by a young boy come across easily to all levels. Our junior high is using it as a schoolwide springboard for our annual Literature Week and we'll have everyone from the P.E. department to math and science building lessons around this treasure of a book. If you like a good story, if you love baseball, you'll certainly want to enjoy this book.

None of the other Robinson books are as good as this
This is the only Robinson biography I've read that tells me about the ballplayer and athlete - the others either try to turn him into a saint or a political figure. This book, while not ignoring his role or his image, places that in perspective and sticks with the story of what he actually did, rather than indulging in hagiography. And the revelations about what he actually did are startling.

A Master-Piece!!!
Manfred Boehme puts once and for all an end to the accusations against Hitler for delaying the employment of the Me-262 as a fighter and thus loosing another opportunity for the Germans prolong the War. Describing the unit (JG-7) the writer tells a complete history of this fighter's development and test, and all the difficulties involved. And the book doesn't forget to talke about the pilots who flew it. Absorbing!

Excellent Overview of Intuition
This is the first thing I've read by Dale Olson, and I am impressed with his straightforward, no nonsense style. He takes a bold stance on many subjects and just states his opinion about the subject as he sees it. "The subconscious mind is the interface or the integrated connection between the conscious mind and intuition." Well said! He isn't flowery, and he writes about his subject in a clear, consise manner. You get the feeling he has been through his ups and downs with learning "the intuition", as he calls it, and that he comes from a well informed opinion. In the introduction we learn about some his earlier exploits with dowsing and trying to become rich by finding gold. He doesn't become rich, but does learn much his abilities in the process. If you are looking for a good introduction to the subject I recommend this book.

GUI Design for Test and Measurement
As a long-time LabVIEW programmer, I know how easy it is to create rich, graphical user interfaces with LabVIEW. I also know how frustrating it is to have an end user sit down in front of my LabVIEW masterpiece and not have a clue of what to do. In his easy to read style, Dave explains effective user interface design and how to apply it to test and measurement.

I especially appreciated Ch. 6 "Graphic Design for Engineers 101 - A Crash Course in Layout and Design." The discussion on designing an effective layout and the provided templates are excellent.

Want to dramatically change the culture of your school?
Read this extraordinary handbook by David and Roger Johnson! As you move your school from one that reflects the factory model to one that values professional community and collaboration, this book will guide you around the pitfalls and across the abyss of failure and lead you by encouraging the heart.

The book is extremely reader friendly, and yet it is filled with substance. It proved to be a valuable tool for me as a first time administrator seeking to build an organizational structure within my school that would encourage collegial groups and schoolwide task forces.

I found this one little book had everything that I would ever want to know! It still continues to be extremely helpful in working with school staffs that are desiring to be more than just a "loosely coupled organization." This work is about people for people who want to make significant changes in the way they do business.
