A waste of paper
I had passed the 4 core NT 4.0 exams on the first try. I bought this book and the "Guide to Proxy Server 2.0" by Course Technology to study for my 5th MCSE test. These books are exact duplicates of each other (notice they have the same author). And both are not worth the paper they are printed on.

They often repeat the same subject in different chapters in different ways, such that I had to flip back and forth between chapters to try and figure out what they were trying to say. But even so, the information seemed conflicting (I can't tell you for sure because after reading the book twice, I don't feel I understand Proxy Server 2.0).

But since I did well on the questions, I figured I could pass the MCSE test. Wrong...I failed. The questions on the real test did not resemble those found in the book. I have used other Exam Cram books and found them worth while, but this one was a waste of my time.

Do not buy this book
I am an MCSE and like many people have never bothered to write a review... but this time I felt I had to - this book wasted too much of my time. The material covered is not close to the test - the test and review questions in the book (which you will score high in if you read the book) are in NO WAY related to the Microsoft test of Proxy Server 2 and are repetitive and contradict other chapters in the book. On the other hand the Transender Exam questions are spot on - if not a little expensive... I will never buy another book by Exam Prep/Cram or any of these authors

This book made the test easy.
I'll probably just borrow some material from my review of the corresponding Exam Cram review, and the general point of that is, the lack of talent and ability among the test takers should not reflect poorly on this book. The book worked, very well. I passed my Proxy test nearly three years ago and I am only writing this review to defend the book, which is well worth the cost.

Before using this book, and the Exam Cram that goes with it, I had never used MS Proxy 2.0 and I never used it afterwards. I had limited exposure to MS Proxy 1.0 and that had been nearly a year prior. I used the Exam Cram and Exam Prep books to study for about a week and walked in and passed the test with flying colors. These books work, and they work well. The Proxy Server 2 elective is one of the easiest certification tests that I have ever taken and I believe that using these books is a large part of what made it so easy. If you don't have a strong understanding of TCP/IP and the concept of caching before going in, then maybe you should try another elective for your MCSE (or preferably another career field, you're an embarrassment to this one.)

The material presented in this book is solid and the review questions should be followed. If you can handle this book you can handle the test.

Leaves out major material - like the Active Directory
The book started out very good. But then as I moved into Chapter 2 and started trying the hands-on exercises, I found they were out of date. The URL for the Readiness Analyzer had a date of October 2000 and said the R.A. is no longer available. On page 135, it said the R.A. was also available on the Server CD, but I searched it and could not find it. Then in Chapter 3, I successfully updated NT4 Server to W2KServer, but there was no mention of Active Directoy - which was required for hands on in Chapter 4. I sent an email to the email address listed in the book. I got bakc a reply I would have expected from another publisher. They simply suggested I check their errata website. I did and it had ZERO updates and ZERO corrections. So I feel if you pay $50 for this book, if you pay $15 for this book, you are completely wasting your money!

Too much useless information
This book would be great if the title of the exam was "every thing you could possibly know about Windows 2000 Server Architecture". The book bogs you down with so much useless information about the design of 2000 Server. Instead of focusing on what you need to pass the test this book drones on endlessly about the most trivial apseects of the operating system.

A good tutorial but not the test prep tool
Actually I like this book. It has lots of info, a good style with some sense of humor, pretty wide and deep coverage, very logical. You can definitly learn about Win 2000 server from this book. The only problem it doesn't help much in your exam preparation. The test questions are very specific and it helps more to buy some question samples then to read books like this, even if it is a good book.

Bias & Sensationalism Unduly Influence Author
I couldn't get past the "prelude" of this 600-page "epic," and the several pages I skimmed. The exaggerated negative descriptions of characters, their thoughts, and motives was just too much for me.

Right from the beginning, it was apparent the author had some biases for and against certain characters. In fact, my impression was the author didn't really like any of them. As a result, I found his description of characters and their actions to be sensationalistic and unbelievable - and unecessarily negative.

Perhaps if the author had told the story straight, like "A Civil Action", and let me form my own conclusions about who the good guys and bad guys were, I might have gotten a little closer to page 612 (The End).

Prolix book but recommended
This book is recommended reading for both lawyers and non-lawyers, but in particular for the former.

A bit wordy, but what do you expect from lawyers?

Disclaimer: have not read this book yet, but actually a legal hornbook I'm reading recommends it!

Poor Circuits text for undergraduate Engineering students
I'm a computer engineering student and have been studying this book for 3 months and I've concluded that it's impossble to learn from. In almost all of the examples, the author skip steps that are vital for students who have never analyzed circuits in such detail before. The reading is difficult to understand, even after reading each chapter two or three times. It's as if the authors wrote this text to impress their colleages. I'm fortunate that my professor explains the material faily well. I'm definitely going to sell this book back at the end of the semister and use the money to invest in a useful circuits text. I highly recommend you do not buy this book, I wish I never did.

I agree with other reviewers
Take my suggestion: "Don't ever buy this book". I am a second year student and my school use this book as a text for Introduction to EE. Since my instructor is so bad in explanation, at the very beginning, I thought, I could rely on this text for understanding. I HAVE READ EVERY SINGLE WORD IN THE FIRST TWO CHAPTERS AND REPEATED SO MANY TIMES AND STILL, I DON'T COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THINGS. Very vey hard to follow. If you don't believe what I said, read it yourself before buying it.

Not Worth The Money
This book is extremly difficult to learn from. The material that is covered is not explained very well for someone just starting out. There may be one of two reasons for this, either the authors know the subject matter so well they lost touch with the basics or they more or less wrote the book to impress their peers.

One of the worst Beatle books ever.
This book is so full of mistakes (as well as being poorly written and designed) it would be funny if I hadn't had to pay for it. Probably rushed out to take advantage of the Beatles' "new" success because of the "1" CD, this is one you should avoid.

Really BAD
I ran accross this book at a local book store and bought it for a Christmas gift. Being a first generation Beatles fan, I think I know a fair amount about the Fab Four. I found this book to be full of errors. A photo of Paul McCartney with Jane Asher is identified as Paul and Linda. Another picture is labeled as being of John and Yoko. Even a non-fan would be able to see that the people in the photograph are clearly NOT John and Yoko.

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!

Do not waste your money!
I am a MCSE who looked at this book for use when studying for my tests. Now, a networking class is using this as a manual and I have to say something. This book does not cover the material well enough to take the tests nor in depth enough to actually do Enterprise networking with NT.

A disappointment
Yes, there are nice pictures but every recipe I tried failed or exploded, even though the directions were followed and my mom helped me. If you plan on buying this book, please consider these things first. It may be a disappointment to kids like me.
