"Complete" course not so complete
I just received my course materials today. I was impressed with the organization of the CD. The book, which is a classic, is of course great! The book would have earned 5 stars, but I gave the whole shameel 4 stars (5 for the book & CD, 3 for the videos) because the integration between the book and video tapes isn't so great. It's difficult to see exactly how to fit the video course in with the book, and it's obvious that the videos were an afterthought. There should be difinitive instructions about the integration. Also, the "cyber" media CD is mis-named. "Cyber" implies "cyberspace", i.e. internet, so I kept looking for links from the multimedia material to the internet, and there were none. The CD is straight old-fashioned multimedia, and they can't change that fact by naming with an internet-related name.

In all, this looks like a good course, packed full of content. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy it again.

Where is the Bonhomme Richard?
The Bonhomme Richard sank in flames more than 200 years ago off Flamborough Head Yorkshire UK The wreck has never been found (not even by Clive Cussler) Ships often lie on the seabed many miles from where they were last sighted. The Thessaly sank in the 1880s off the Friesian Islands. The Royal Navy Admiralty Charts will tell you where this wreck lies and who located her. The Cap Palos was lost off Whitby Yorkshire in the 1920s. She lies at least 50 miles away. Cannons are located within 50 miles of Flamborough Head. Are they from the first ship of the US Navy

this is a great book
This book was really amazing. It kept you on your toes and really put you in the character's place. I often found myself getting anxious, angry or sad in many parts of the book. My mom picked it up thinking of just reading a couple of pages to check what I was reading and ended up staying up until 3 in the morning reading it. Before you start this book make sure you don't have anything big happening for hours because you won't put it down. If you enjoy thinking about what it would be like to live on the other side of the law this is definitely the book for you. -Q

Not Just for Foucault Fanatics
This collection of Foucault's essays, lectures, interviews, and editorials, offers even the casual reader of Foucault welcome insights into his methods, his intellectual biography and the development of his own methods. Most valuable perhaps are interviews collected from various magazines where he is challenged by his interviewers to respond to their criticisms and the criticisms of others. In one, for instance, Foucault tries hard to correct those who read his works as a totalizing critique of capitalism, or the current penal system, or the mental institution. He insists that his works are only intended to be seen as the history of various specific institutions and that those critics and followers who are tempted to project his findings onto current practices distort his intent. Whether or not you believe him, his defense of his method and his avowed intent are compelling. In another, he also quickly and cogently characterizes his two main intellectual influences, Hegelism and phenomenology, explains why he rejected these particular philosophical trends, but how they nevertheless challenged him to arrive at his own agenda and the course of his studies. Throughout Foucault is ruthlessly honest about his own failings -- for instance his lack of knowledge about the Frankfurt School, and thoughtful -- his appraisal of the problems that inhere in national healthcare programs, which he generally supports but with interesting qualifications. The editorials, while they address issues that may seem remote or dated, demonstrate that he was actively engaged in the politics of his time, and show how he applies his analytical methods to current events. Some selections will be of interest only to the Foucault fanatic or to his biographers, which is the reason for the four star, instead of the five-star, rating. Highly recommended.

Roar of the Tiger

The autobiography of a two-theatre fighter ace.

Ace AVG and Ninth Air Force pilot James H. Howard was born in Canton province, China, of American parents. Smitten by a recruiter's pitch for naval pilots while studying at Pomona College, he enlisted, and successfully became a naval pilot. Enjoying this life, but eager for combat and promotion, he was swept away again when a very different call for pilots arose. This time the recruitment was for Chennault's American Volunteer Group, later known as the Flying Tigers.

This relatively recent addition to the few AVG pilot autobiographies gives a candid, first-hand account of the group and its missions, methods and pilots. Howard describes his days with the AVG, from its problem-ridden start to its transformation into an effective fighting force. Fans will appreciate the description of famous AVG missions and pilots. Following the disbanding of that group, Howard then fought with the Ninth Air Force, stationed in Britain. This is a bonus for readers, who are given the view from both Southeast Asia and Europe. The European portion often becomes a tiresome, blow-by-blow story of aerial gunfighting, however.

Though this is an autobiography, Howard is not excessively self-centred, and the narrative is not simply a dry listing of his life's accomplishments. A fair amount of the book is impersonal, and relates the routines of military life, or historical information. The writing is intelligent and reasonably objective, and Howard apparently has had a longstanding interest in history. He has included quotes from military luminaries and fellow pilots in order to support his views, to recount aerial actians, or to relate wartime moods in various locales. This unique opportunity is the result of the book's recent publication, and it adds considerable flavour.

As a military autobiography, Roar of the Tiger is clearly written and informative. As it is about performing military duties in service of country, readers should not expect relationships or introspection as with other memoirs. Roar of the Tiger is primarily for those interested in fighter pilots of the period and the challenges they faced.

Book is very well written and easy to understand
I started reading my copy on a TWA flight from St. Louis to Sacramento and finished somewhere over western Nevada (a little over 3 hours).

This book is very well written and easy to understand. I really liked the "Take Home Messages" and the detailed information that explained the messages.

The real eye opener in Stop Homocysteine is the enormous size and complexity of the methylation process. Lowering homocysteine levels through methylation is only one part of this amazing biochemical story. I am a victim of cardiovascular disease and it is a very important process in my life, but I am also nearing retirement and the diseases of aging are gaining prominence.

The back cover of Stop Homocysteine sums up the whole book when it states: Methylation is a whole body process. Learn how it can be used to:

. Help the Heart . Heal the Liver . Improve your mood . Strengthen your bones . Prevent Cancer . Improve Antioxidant Activity . Live Longer . S! low Aging

And people, you can take that message home.

Amazingly Insightful
Although the century old language is a bit difficult to read initially, once you get rolling, it isn't difficult. The neatest thing is how amazingly applicable James' observations are in today's society. The book is fun and interesting to read. I learned a great deal.
