If you love the taste of ground ginger, you are bound to consult this cookbook frequently. Merinoff's (I checked the cover and copyright page of my book and as far as I can tell that's the correct spelling of the author's name) instructions are clear and her historical references add to the charm of this book.

As for its recipes, the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake is outstanding, a small cake whose flavors improve over time. Looking for some mouth-watering main courses? Try the Chicken with Ginger-Corn Bread Stuffing or the Sauerbraten with Gingersnap Gravy.

I think you'll be pleased with this purchase.

This isn't a book for kids parties or cards. This has projects for the ladies you love and also men. Imaginative cards, and I love the mosiac look of a cake with hard candy on top. I think the painted desk accessories would be more for a teenager. The cupcakes decorated with rolled gumdrops (bees etc OR fruits) are my favorite! A little bit of everything: from card to cake making to a smattering of gifts. Fun book.

The recipes in this cookbook are wonderful! There is everything from a simple New York style cheesecake to a cranberry-sauce-topped cheesecake with a complicated preparation.

In addition to the wonderful recipes, the author talks a little bit about technique in the beginning of the book.

I knew Hardee personally and am referred to in this work... it was great to re-live the spirit of South London in the 1950s and beyond and to see how a "bad boy" ended-up making good. A great read, with lots of amusing anecdotes...

I haven't read such delicious nonsense in much too long. Shaffer takes fresh look at something that you see every day, and slides it sideways into total silliness. It's done with effortless sleight of hand, one little step at a time.

the book is more than a irish bread cookbook. its full of ideas and wit. it small and hand crafted book. i think it would a deal at twice the money.

This folktale-like story features two delicious elements that kids can't resist: cake and silliness! Children will giggle knowingly at the antics pulled by pudding-for-brains Jack . . . and cheer when he comes up with a tasty solution to his problem. An excellent choice for young readers, filled with wit and wisdom and an easy-to-read style that will give kids a feeling of triumphant satisfaction when they close the book and say: "I read it all by myself!" (Don't be surprised if they're hungry for a piece of cake or pie, afterward!)

Jane Asher's Party Cakes is beautiful, readable, clever and very liberating... she has a "do-what-works" attitude that is refreshingly diferent from many of the other books on the subject. Here she presents a series of 3 dimensional, sculpted cakes, decorated in rolled fondant. Subjects range from an ornate piano (complete with rice paper sheet music) to an extraordinarily life-like snail. The cakes are rated by difficulty, but even a novice can have great success with the difficult ones, as the techniques are well illustrated and broken down into easy steps. Lovely to look at and even more fun to use, this book should be a part of any cake decorating hobbyist's library.

I remember this book from childhood. It was a fun story with warm pictures. I thought about this simple story for years after. In the story--- A family experiences the ravages of poverty/loss and the boy Johnny sets out on his own. While on his journey, he loses his one means of sustinence, the "Journey Cake". From there, he chases the rolling cake and a whole series of events unfold. Years later, I found a copy and realized the profundity of the story. Sometimes when you are down to nothing, it is the journey that provides you with everything you need, even a way back home. Great story for children and adults.
