I began reading this to my daughter when she was just a few months old, and I have never tired of it. Now, my daughter is nearly 2-1/2 and she still loves hearing the tale over and over. The illustrations are clear and colorful, and it's fun to look for the egg in each one. The text (a la House that Jack Built) does a nice job in showing the progression of relationships: "This is the corn, that fed the hen, that laid the egg, that went into the cake that Mack ate. etc."

I found this book on a friends bookshelf. I am a Chef and own the Reminisce Restaurant in Summerville, S.C. We have about 3 Weddings a month and I have to bake a lot of wedding cakes. I'm a kitchen klutz. My family refers to my cooking as my "experiments". I've tried dozens of recipe books to improve my way around the kitchen, but they were too complicated and too intimidating for someone at my cooking level. I needed something more basic. So I searched through the children's cookbooks and discovered "Cakes and Cookies for Beginners". This book is an absolute marvel. It has about 20 mouthwatering dessert recipes, each with a photo of how the finished product is supposed to look. It also includes easy to understand baking tips. If you like simple straightforward recipes, try this book.

This is a great cookbook. There are cakes for all occasions and even recipes that include mixes. I have made several cakes from Ms. Pare's excellent book and have never been disappointed! I would highly recommend this easy to follow guide to one of the my favorite 'food' groups! :-)

I have borrowed this and many other books from our local public library. This book specially had become one of my favorites. Even though it's an old edition (1983) the instructions are so easy to follow that anybody can prepare a perfect puff pastry from scratch on the first try. I highly recommended it!! Unfortunately, this book has now a status of "lost" at the Library. I will consider this book a real cook's treasure for anybody that owns it, and hope the publisher presents a new edition soon.

I have been looking for this book for years! I first encountered this book in the public library. Most cookbooks are either too simplistic, or require "pastry chef" level of cooking skills. This book gives you enough information and instruction to make wonderful cakes and pastries. I have tried many of the recipies and have succeeded each time with making something that everyone liked on the first try! Believe me, I am no pastry chef. Finally, I have found this book at Amazon.com!

this is a really great book, it explains how to make some unbelievable cakes, the designs can be adapted for women & kids also. There is one cake in there, that is a swimming pool with all these women around it with no tops on! it is really funny, I've made it several times, sometimes even the girls have their shirts on! really funny book with great ideas! def. a good buy for your library

This version of Cakes for the Queen Of Heaven is an excellent presentation of the weeks long curriculum offered in UU churches. It's a shame for it to be out of print. Shirley, consider Print On Demand. Some publishers will publish out of print books free.
