The Beachcomber's Handbook of Seafood Cookery
An unusual approach to a cookbook. Tells you how to catch it or buy it, clean it and cook it with humorous stories to bring it alive (the book not the seafood!) The book is delightfully illustrated by renowned artist Claude Howell giving this cookbook a different look. This cookbook is a must for your kitchen whether you are the cook or not. It is such a shame that it is no longer in print. It was my favorite gift for every newlywed couple I knew.

Ben Jonson and the Cavalier Poets: Authoritative Texts, Criticism
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (1975)
Authors: Hugh MacLean and Ben Jonson
Amazon base price: $12.50
Used price: $9.25

Authoritative, indeed!
This volume claims to have the authoritative texts of poems by Ben Jonson and his followers (including Richard Corbett, Robert Herrick, Thomas Carew, Thomas Randolph, and Edmund Waller, among others). This claim is certainly a fair one. Also incuded are wonderful, relevant critical essays, some of them modern, some written by Jonson and his contemporaries. The essays and the variety of poets give this edition a feeling of completness; it is very good to have one poet's work right next to the responses of other poets to said work.

The poetry itself, of course, is wonderful. During their lives, Jonson's work was thought to rival that of Shakespeare. These comparaisons are perhaps eaiser to understand when reading Jonson's still-easily-accessible poetry than when reading his plays.

This volume is essential to any reader of Jonson.

Now I know what to expect when I see my breast specialist...
This book covers everything about benign breast disease. There are many books that cover breast cancer in detail, but few that describe the many benign conditions which cause just as much anxiety to women who find a new lump or problem with the breast.

With lots of colour photos, and illustrations, each chapter starts with a key points summary. If you want to be able to discuss your condition with your doctor from a more "informed" standpoint, this book is ideal and worth every cent of the price.

The Frankfurt Scholars and Bertolt Brecht.
A very short observation: Every one that wants to explore the reasons of why Adorno and Brecht were water and oil, why Brecht was very interested in dialectical relationships between wave and matter or why Brecht never ended at Frankfurt receiving three naked students meanwhile a director, can't miss this book.

Beyond Greed: A Traditional Conservative Confronts Ne0-Conservative Excess (No Canadian Rights in the U.S.)

An excellent insight into the western consersative ideology
This is a must read for anyone in North America and Europe concerned with the growth and popularity of right wing or neo-conservative parties. Segal, a self-professed moderate conservative, thoroughly analyzes the neo-conservatism movement in Canada, the US, and Great Britain. He outlines how and why they have grown in popularity in recent years, and especially in the latest elections, in all three countries. For Segal, the neo-conservatives offer simple and politically expedient solutions to complex social, political, and economical problems. It is these simple solutions that have attracted people to these neo-conservative parties. After his neo-conservative overview Segal argues why moderate conservatives offer a balance between the rights of the individual and their responsibility to society. A balance which is missing in the neo-conservative concern for the individuals rights, and the liberals/socialist belief in a utopian state. The book concludes with Segal challenging all citizens to actively become involved with their community. Which is the base of a just and civil society. He then encourages people, "to reach beyond the narrow, beyond the small-minded, beyond the politics of insensitivity and envy," which for Segal is precisely what the neo-conservative movement propagates.

A Must-Have For the Old-Time Radio Fan
One of the undisputed classic reference works for the old-time radio enthusiast, first published during the original wave of nostalgia over 25 years ago, "The Big Broadcast" lists many network and syndicated radio shows that ran in the timeframe of the 1920's-50s, more commonly referred to as "the golden age of radio". A great source for cast lists (if you can't put a name to a voice) with informative articles on genres and more technical matters (sound effects, "independent" networks, etc.). This type of thorough reference work is usually frustratingly hard to find for the old-time radio. This book has been out of print for years, and when you found a copy of the first edition, you could expect to pay premium prices, especially if the seller knew what he had. The introduction, by radio comedian Henry Morgan (not to be confused with the guy who played Colonel Potter on "MASH"), is a beauty.

Perfect for college classrooms tired of the same old thing!
This book is a wonderful new view of government in the United States. Unlike the typical cynicism filled book that points out all problems in our society stemming from our government, this book makes specific recommendations to our government. Instead of sitting back and complaining, these authors tell us exactly what needs to be done!

This book is very refreshing and will fit in a college, or even an AP High School Government classroom, perfectly. Students have a wonderful opportunity to evaluate their reccomendations, come up with their own, and examine the problems raised b the authors.
