Dream Rides, Great Local Info and an Exceptional Read
I've just finished this book for the 3rd time. Each time I smile and dream about Colorado. I can smell the summer showers on the horizon. Now I know how to survive if I get caught again in one of those instant season changes from summer to winter. You know the type, that happen at about 10,000 feet, with a 50 degree temperature plummet in about 45 minutes, that leave you praying for a fleece and a quick decent.
Want to know about historical archaeological digs? Grizzly Bear Myths? Best place to find a burrito as big as your head? Pumas? Surely toxic ceramic-like mud? No???? You just want to know about trail riding? Well this is the book for that as well. Single and double tracks, wash boards, roads, the whole enchilada......mmmmm green chili. Who woulda thunk a trail guide would be so entertaining and yet so thorough? Buy this book now for any of the above reasons, or just buy it for the pure enjoyable read that it is.

Robert Hurst is a down-to-earth trail guide
This book has a personality lacking in most guidebooks. It is like having a local along on the ride with you. It is nice to see a mountain bike book by a Coloradan dedicated to Colorado mountain biking.

Nautical Highways: Ferries of the San Juan Islands

One of the best places in the Northwest
Illahee, Nisqually, Kaleetan.
Hyak, Hiyu, Elwha, Chelan.

These are the names of some of the ferries that take people to and between the Pacific Northwest's San Juan Islands. The words evoke an earlier tribal time that can almost be felt while riding on blue-gray salt water between glacier-flattened rocks and evergreen hills. Ferry passengers find themselves grounded to the earth in such a way that water, rock, trees, sky, sun, wind, and rain are no longer backdrops to life, but life itself. Nature dominates awareness, and people respond by visibly relaxing, smiling more, sleeping, meditating, reading, talking with friends, and anticipating adventures to come.

Island resident Robert Demar's beautiful black-and-white photographs capture the elusive, magical atmosphere surrounding these north Puget Sound "Nautical Highways". He pictures foot passengers, commuters from Seattle, cycling and motorcycling weekenders, trucks supplying the needs of island life, kids playing on deck, ferry crews tending to business, and curious and hungry seagulls. Aerial shots place the ferries and their graceful, contoured wakes into a larger but still other-worldly context.

Robin Atkins' impressionistic commentary provides a verbal tone poem that compliments the mood of Robert's artistry. Together, words and pictures recreate a Northwest ferry experience almost as much fun and restorative as the real thing.

Nautical Highways: Memories of San Juan Ferries
I've been a resident of Puget Sound for 30 years and the San Juan Islands for the past 14 years. Looking at the photos of the ferries and island moments brings so many memories to mind. The people, the fog, the water, the gulls, the boats--as we call them--our transportation to the mainland. Robert has captured the images so well. And, Robin's comments, hykiu like, help support the photos. My mother, who can no longer travel from the East Coast, enjoyed the book very much. She always loved the ferry rides. Once you step onto our ferries and begin the trip into the islands, the busyness of the mainland is left behind.
Robert's photos help one to step into island life if only in our memories.

Should have bought this sooner
This would have saved me a headache or two. It gives the pronounciation from both sides of the language and gives extensive word usages throughout.

Simply put: The very best ever / Simplemente el mejor !
The New Velazquez Spanish and English Dictionary is the best bilingual dictionary I've ever used. It's richness, in depth presentation of nouns, adjectives and verbs, its selection of examples, local and common expresions, pronunciation, presentation and format, etc., they all make this dictionary to standout by itself among the rest. I strongly recommend it to anyone for business, college or home. This is a Mr. Bilingual Dictionary! The price at Amazon.com is fair. The value of the book its unlimited. Really a piece of jewelry! Lincoln Mejia Raleigh, NC. --------------------------------------

Walking Through Time
A fascinating photo essay on the Old City of San Juan, Puerto Rico, this coffee-table view book makes a wonderful addition to anyone's library. The authors and photographers did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the Old City's Spanish-influenced architecture, which were all inspired by the Santa Cruz District of Seville, Spain (Seville was the capital of trade between Spain and her colonies due to it's location). The cobblestone streets, religious buildings, and fascinating faces that bring this treasure to life are all here. Truly it gave me memories of my beloved homeland and a longing in my heart to return soon.

Whether you buy it for yourself or as a gift, the book's great price and format (it's a paperback) are great reasons to purchase it. Once you buy it , I'm sure you will be longing plan a trip to the island and walk through time.

Great Photography!!!
This is a great book with excellent color photography!!! Nice variety of photos, focusing on architecture, people and natural scenery. Good historical background given.

"A Precise Definition of Christian Prayer"
Paul Y. Cho makes intimate fellowship with God accessible to anyone who seeks to improve their discernment in the realm of prayer. Cho stresses that God does not have any favorite children, but that He simply gives His Grace liberaly to those who diligently seek it. Dr. Cho also shares how fasting sharpens your ability to be used as an instrument of God by the Holy Spirit. He as well uses many of his own experiences, and also those who are a part of his church, to relate his techniques to everyday life. In Prayer Key to Revival, Paul Y. Cho defines throughout the entirety of his book a very fervent and effective threefold definition of Christian Prayer. So it would be most wise and abundantly profitable to purchase and read this book.

enlightening
This book taught me how to pray with the holy spirit. It is very detailed in how to pray with the holy spirit. Since Dr. Cho lives this way, he is speaking from experience and that is what makes it all better. I read it over and over because every time you read it you learn something new. It has helped me mature as a born again christian, I am not just a believer now, but also I am going up the spiritual ladder.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Notes from the Photographer/Author
Hi, this is Mark Drenth, author and photographer of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The general idea behind this book was to condense a "coffee table" book to a smaller format, thus providing a more affordable book with all the quality of a larger one. Youll find this book to be the one you pull out of your library to show friends what San Juan looks like, and it will end up on the coffee table. I covered all the major areas of San Juan, as well as some intersting areas that only a few tourists get to see. I kept the text to a minimum in order to focus more on the photos of San Juan. Im sure your going to love this book.

Beautiful Book
I saw this book in the airport of San Juan Puerto Rico in a couple of the stores. I loved it and bought four for gifts. I should have bought five because so many friends have looked through my copy, its beginning to get worn out.

I was browsing the books here and saw it, nobody has yet reviewed it so I feel compelled to give the first review.

The over all quality of the photos of the book are plain beautiful. Im from Puerto Rico, and didnt want a book with "old" looking photos, or photos of places that had changed. Its obvious all the photos are up to date, as of a couple months ago. Overall the book starts in Old San Juan and zig-zags through the city and ends up in Piniones. The only text of the book is a general opening on the first couple pages then just photos with captions of what they are. The captions are in four languages...english, spanish, german, french.

There are aerials of the city too...as Im looking at the book now there are also bookmark flaps on each cover...pages are high gloss...good feel.

This is one of those books that is a "must have" for anyone who travels... I just wish this book format was available for all the cities Ive been to. FIVE STARS.

Not just a tourist phrasebook.
I am an advanced student of Spanish and at the present time, am just getting off what linguists call a "learning plateau". One may find plenty of reviews of this book as a simple tourist book for those staying in the Hispanic world for a few weeks. But I am currently using this book to help fill in the missing pieces to he puzzle of being able to speak in colloqial terms. This book is excellent for the serious learner who has mastered complicated grammar subjects and wishes to be able to converse about everyday topics. This no doubt, along with a nice grammar reference and perhaps a verb book, and some tapes could make a perfect method to learning to speak everyday, colloquial Spanish.

A very useful book for travel to Spain
I purchased this book before a study trip to Spain. Its organization by topics ("Eating Out", "At the Post Office", etc.) was great for quick reference. It includes the basics along with some idioms and colloquialisms which I would have been totally lost without. Of all the dictionaries and Spanish reference books I have, this is certainly the most useful for travel and quick reference. I highly recommend it for travelers and students.

A wonderful collection of border stories!
Stories That Must Not Die is wildly popular with youngsters and their parents here. These are all the stories they've heard from their abuelas. In my library we can't keep it on the shelf, even with multiple copies. It is always checked out.

Stories that must not die
I really enjoyed reading this book I read this book when I was 11 years old I really like it because it tells you about the mexican legends such as the sobbing woman, dancing with the devil and many more. I also like because my grandma told me about the stories and they are all on this book. It's a really good book.

To Be Free: Stories from Asia's Struggle Against Oppression
Published in Paperback by Monash Asia Inst (1998)
Authors: Soon Juan Chee and Chee Soon Juan
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

Accounts were a long time coming
There has been a dire need for a good and accurate accounts of the real heroes of the Asia-Pacific region; and Chee's new book provides just that. Unfortunately regional literature is coloured by cronyism and brown-nosing. Examples of such work are Alex Josey's notoriously bad piece on Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew and even Lee Kuan Yew's recent autobiography. Both pieces have been accorded too much 'good' publicity, mainly from their own state controlled media or people not knowing any better. Chee should be commended for his effort. More writers should follow suit.

Asia's quest for democracy
Alan Abrahams reviews this book in the May 6, 1999 issue of Far Eastern Economic Review, p. 41. He says the book "vividly recounts the struggles of six prominent Asian human-rights activists and their protracted efforts toward building democratic societies in their own countries."

I love this score
A great score, with no errors and very large, readable print. Great companion for listeners, music students, and conductors alike.

The score is very large (9 3/8 x 12 1/4) and lays flat on a stand or table. Highly reccommended!

Superb is the word!
Richard Strauss knew how to make symphonic music with great drama as well as humour. The three grand symphonic masterpieces of this edition just has it all. Dare I say that some of the music in Tod Und Verklarung is some of the most beautiful and heartbreaking music ever written? And how about the great humor revealed in Don Quixote? Richard Strauss truly is a master of the orchestra. If you don't believe me, have a look yourself. It just hardly get any better than this. Thank you Dover for this excellent book!
