Frank Lloyd Wright: Preserving an Architectural Heritage
Published in Hardcover by (1993)
Author: Hanks A.
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Excellent
This tremendous book, brought to you by the nation's favourite pizzeria, shows a genius at work. What is evident in the work of Lloyd Wright, and what can certainly be seen in this magnificent retrospective, is his continual striving to incorporate innovation with consistency in order to create an architectural grammar which was, though eclectic, uniquely American. Take, for example the Larkin Building, in which the architect showed his willingness to experiment with new materials and technologies. Just as Lloyd Wright innovated with air-conditioning, plate-glass windows, integral desk furniture and suspended toilet bowls, so the Domino's Master Piemaker brings an almost symphonic unity to his work with multifaceted swathes of mushroom, cantilevered tranches of melting cheese and geometric designs hewn from pork. As David Hanks says in his helpful introduction "The romantic spirit that Wright brought to all his buildings is that same unabashed virtuosity that is brought boxed and piping hot to your door (thanks to their revolutionary new HeatWave packaging system) when you phone for a delicious Domino's pizza from any one of their 6200 franchised stores worldwide".

The Gingerbread Doll
Great-grandma Rebecca tells the story of memorable Christmas gift, a gingerbread doll, made for her by her mother during the Great Depression. If you'd like to shift the focus of Christmas from materialism to love, this is THE book to do it. When you read this book, take time to linger over the realistically drawn, detailed illustrations - They are a pleasure in themselves.

A great book about a great merchant, his store and his city
This is one of my favorite books. The text is clear, descriptive, and mesmerizes the reader with its storytelling. Inside these pages you will find how Marshall Field and his Company set the standard for retailing in Chicago and indeed the country, and also how the City of Chicago itself influenced the store. The histories of the city and the store are intertwined, and the authors do a wonderful job of explaining the uniqueness of this relationship.

You won't regret purchasing this book. I have read it many, many times over the past 15 years or so and I never tire of it!

God's Best for my Life is truly a best for my life.
I had a dear aunt buy this book for me about four years ago. This book has helped me through some rough times. It has been a companion to me, and has ministered to my soul many times during my devotional time. It is uncanny how many times the issues I faced were the same as what the author was writing about. Isn't it amazing how God works.

I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a source of renewal for your devotional time.

This book is full of exitment and sorrow.
The book Goodbye Walter Malinski is a wonderful example of how a poor, Polish famiy survived in America during the Great Depression. It also displays how a family coped with the loss of a loved one. This is a book that is short and sweet. My opinion of this book is very high, but to discover the exiting events you must read it your self.

Very well-done and well-researched
This tells in a definitive way the story of Harry Hopkins, one of the most important and also one of the most unlikely heroes of World War II. This book traces his life from his birth in Sioux City, Iowa, on August 17, 1890, to his death in New York on Jan.29, 1946. Anyone interested in the years when he was prominent should get and read this good book

Hawk's Valley: A Good Place to Die
Outstanding!!! It's one of those that you want to read again and again! The story is about a family as told through the eyes of three of the main characters, each giving a new perpsective on what happened on "that fateful day in 1861" that led them on their adventures to find one another. Throughout the story the paths of these characters cross in very subtle ways. There are so many complexities to the plot, yet it is an easy and enjoyable read. There were moments where I found myself laughing out loud and others where my heart was racing in suspense. The characters are so vivid and it was hard to tell which parts of the story were fiction and which were true accounts in Minnesota history. It was an enjoyable way to learn the real story behind some of the names and legends. I can't wait for the sequel!!
