Vital addition to your Dog library
This is a well organized book that clearly defines potential skin problems of Dogs or Cats and then plots out a potential resolution that both the layman and the veterinarian alike can use to successfully assist the afflicted pet.

Helps educate the pet owner to ultimately assist the veterinarian with the proper diagnosis by delving comprehensively into the subject of skin disease, its' causative factors and curative possibilities to assist in the proper final diagnosis, which with skin ailments, is sometimes never possible to pin down.

My only wish is that a new, revised addition would be published that would reflect some of the newer drug therapies that have become available since the books' original publication date in 1997.

Animals Came One by One

Superb book for animal lovers of all ages
I first read this book about 30 years ago and I have re-read it annually every year since. It tells the story of a sickly English boy who's only playmates are his animals. He grows up to become a veterinarian and the book follows his early years in the profession on through his adventures during the WWII bombings of London. He and his staff rescue the abandoned animals of the city and give them refuge on his country farm. He also "boards" the pets of people fleeing the city until after the war. Any animal lover can't help but fall in love with the many four legged characters that are a part of this story. I assume Mr. Lloyd-Jones is no longer alive but he is a man I would love to have sat down to dinner with. I could have listened to his life story forever.

From past to present
This book takes an entirely different look at the life of the Crow. The text is set in interview format, the interviewer being a female historian Helene Smith and the interviewee being a very well respected and knowledgable historian of the Crow tribe. The book covers a very broad range of issues from historical and traditional information to very contemporary issues such as politics within the tribe and dealings with the government. It is a truly excellent resource in that the exact conversation is represented and there is not the liberties taken with interpretation that often happen with texts that are co-written by anthropologists. This is a rare and excellent source of information, a real gem.

The Archaeology of Mesopotamia: From the Old Stone Age to the Persian Conquest
Published in Paperback by Thames & Hudson (1984)
Author: Seton Lloyd
Amazon base price: $11.95
Used price: $10.00
Average review score:

Great book
A very bold title "Archaeology of Mesopotomia", but the author does an excellent job examing Mesopotomia from the twilight of the Neolithic to the Neo-Babylonian period. Seton describes almost every aspect of interest in all the periods of Mesopotamian Archaeology including the written history, perhistoric and historic sites in northern and southern Iraq, The Sumerian Dynasties, Akkad domination over Sumer, The Assyrians, and lastly the Neo-Babylonians. I throughly enjoyed the detail of the book even though the huge degree of coverage that the title suggests is hard to overview in a single volume. A magnificant out-of-print book recommended for anyone interested in Mesopotamian archaeology. A classic!

Great! It addresses all the questions we ALL want to ask.
Great!! This book takes all the hard questions, and gives us clear answers that don't leave us wondering 'how does this translate to real life.' The chapter on 'What Can I do with My Moods?' really helped me. Buy 2 copies one for yourself and one to share with a friend!

Great Cultural Notes for the Visitor
This book really grew on me. I bought it in its first publication by Hong Kong's 'The Guidebook Company' in 1990, along with the usual Lonely Planet and an updated version of Bill Dalton's extremely hefty Indonesia guide. (I first took his book to Indonesia in '79, and his guide continues to be invaluable to the drifting back packer and serious off-the-beaten-tracker, but that type of guide may be overkill for the package traveller to Bali).

I find I keep returning to Charlés book for cultural references. Whereas the Lonely Planet and Dalton are great for planning where to stay and how to get around, and they're chockablock with data, data, data, this little gem of a book is a great if simple tool for planning cultural events and jaunts. It's laid out in an attractive fashion, with all kinds of great photos. Very interesting sidebars highlight personalities, artists, or historical events. It's light enough to be the only guide book you might need, especially if you plan to stay in one place (as on a package deal) and confine your forays into different villages and beaches to day trips only.

So if you are limited in your time in Bali, and you have to plan your days with care, spend a week or two with this book before you go, and it will quickly guide you to the things that interest you most.
