Put it back in PRINT!
This book is one of the finest discussions of issues in the intellectual and scientific history of ancient societies, in particular as a critique of the concept of "primitive mentalities." It's scandalous to find that it has gone out of print.

fictionalized version of a how-to book on personal power
Probably one of the best books to describe how to attain personal power and gifts. It was written as a prequel to Magnificent Obsession, which refers often to the journal kept by Dr. Hudson, a journal which dramatically changed the life of Bobby Merrill. I've tried the formula and it works! Some rhetoric about the possibility of WWI is amusing considering that the same rhetoric is touted about nuclear war.

The book is BASIC baby care - what everyone needs.
How often have we tried to sift through all the clutter of the encyclopedic volumes of baby care advice usually found on the bookshelves today? With Dr. Carl Robinson's Basic Baby Care, there's no problem. It's written in simple, easy-to-understand words of wisdom from an African American pediatrician who saw the need to present his expertise and experience in a format anyone could understand. And it works. Targeting a segment of the population that may or may not have a level of education needed to decipher complicated medical terms, and offering no-nonsense advice about such things as child abuse, male/female relationships, and single parenting, Dr. Robinson has succeeded, in only 160 pages, in making readers say, "THAT'S what I needed to know!"

Excellent reference book for creating drawings.
I am an electrical engineer and PE, designing control systems. Although, I have not read this book cover to cover, it is setting on my desk and I use it frequently as a reference. It is an excellent source for creating electrical drawings, whether you are fluent in schematic generation, or just getting started. It contains information at all levels of understanding. I borrowed it from a CAD designer I work with, and it appears to be written for CAD designers. I have looked for a reference book of this nature- they are very hard to find. The reason I am writing this review is I came to amazon.com to buy it- a definite necessity for my professional library!

An Infatuation with the Queen of Alcohol
I first read Hans Fallada's 'The Drinker' eight years ago and my second reading of it confirms all its macabre power to haunt its readers. Written in just two weeks in a German lunatic asylum in 1944, this hypnotic, compelling story of a respectable businessman's alcohol-induced descent into squalor and psychic collapse will sober its merriest reader. Based on events in Fallada's own life, the novel takes us into the progressively warped worldview of one Erwin Sommer - well off, middle class, insecure; a man who will soon discover all the charm and malignant power of a flight into self-destructice alcoholism. Estrangement, Paranoia and Victimisation are Sommer's travelling companions on this journey with only the passing comfort of the bottle for solace. Despite 'The Drinker' lacking any reference to the events of Germany,1944, the reader will soon find himself wondering to what extent Erwin Sommer's experiences are analogous to the descent of Germany in the years of the Hitler period. 'The Drinker' is not for those seeking a comforting or moral conclusion. For the reader who is fascinated by the extremes of human psychology and experience, this book book will stay etched in your mind.

Truly enjoyable
This book is a great way to pass the time and learn about the history of the Jersey Shore. John Bailey Lloyd loaded his book with details and great pictures of the early days of Long Beach Island. It's an easy read and truly a relaxing book.

This is the only book on Bishop that includes work by her.
AS the editor of this book, I'd like readers to know that it not only includes major essays by leading American critics like Helen Vendler, Robert Pinsky, and David Lehman, but that it also contains previously uncollected material by Bishop herself, work not available in any other book. This was a landmark book on Bishop and remains the most thorough collection of material on her work: critical essays, reviews, and even poetry about her (by James Merrill and Robert Lowell).

The Embrace of God
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (1900)
Authors: M. Lloyd Erickson and Lloyd Erickson
Amazon base price: $8.50
Used price: $6.14
Average review score:

This book provides an accurate picture of who God is.
The book brings out that each person's picture of God is a combination of the personalities of their own parents and the mental understanding they have of who the ideal parent should be. However, since none of us has perfect parents, our pictures of God are distorted. To know who God really is, is to be drawn to Him. The book is Scripturally based, and you might be surprised at what Heavenly Father is really like. Did you know He likes to hug His children? "Embracing God" is good reading for all (even young people). I especially recommend it to those who have suffered pain or disappointment because of their earthly parents.

The Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball

Incredible Research Guide!
The second edition of this book is a big upgrade from the first edition, which was a huge project on its own. This edition not only contains names of virtually every existing team from the 1800's up to the present day, but also contains complete standings of all leagues, major and minor from 1884 through 1996.

The editors of this book did an amazing amount of research for this book and it shows. In addition to each league's standings, there is also a list that shows each major league team's farm system (From the 1930's on to the present). Some teams like the St. Louis Cardinals of the 1930s had as many as TWELVE minor league farm teams! With each team are listed their won-lost records, their attendance figures, and the team managers.

It's fascinating to look at how each team in a league did over a 10, 20 or even 30 year period, or how different leagues came and went. Along with each league standings are lists of league leaders in batting and pitching.

Each section of the book is divided into decades and at the beginning of each section is a summary of the period. There's a tremendous amount of reference information listed in the beginning of the book (ie teams listed by league, city, state and counties and leagues from year to year).

At the back of the book are listed all-time records for active and inactive leagues. Standings for independent leagues, (which became popular in the mid 1990s) which aren't always available in other baseball reference books are included here.

Any minor league history fan will love this updated and vastly improved book.

Also recommended are any of the Bill O'Neal minor league history books and also The Grand Minor League by Dick Dobbins.
