Excellent reference and study guide for Visual Basic 6.0
This book takes comprehensive look at Visual Basic Objects and Components including ActiveX EXEs, DLLs, Documents, and MTS/COM+. Every type of object or component is examined in this book and very well explained in a way to make you understand. Peter Vogel's writting style makes reading this book easy.

This book was a major study guide for the Designing and Implementing Desktop Applications using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (exam 70-176) and the Designing and Implementing Distributed Applications using Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (exam 70-175). I passed both exams. This was an excellent addendum to the Transcender courses and I use this book several times a week as a reference. There are a lot of Visual Basic 6.0 shops out there and I would highly recommend that this book be part of their reference library.

The author is suppose to be writing a Visual Basic.Net Object and Component Handbook which is due out next year. If that book is as good as this book, I will highly recommend it too. I have about 30 Visual Basic books and this book is one of the best.

Invaluable Reference on Object and Component Development
As a person who is constantly reading new material, books, eNewsletters, etc., I was most impressed with the content of this book. The book covers the design/implementation decisions that have to be made to make an object and/or component as effective as it can be. The auther discusses the impacts of various design decisions and does not really tell you what to do, but rather outlines in clear, consise language the implications of the decisions and allows you to make the design that works best for your situation.

I have long been wondering if I was making the correct design decisions and looking for a book that outlines the alternatives that can be implemented to develop enterprise solutions that perform well and are maintainable!

After the specifics of general object and component writing, there are specific chapters that target ActiveX Controls, adding Data Binding behavior of your objects, MTS components, and much, much more (read the table of contents). These chapters are written to be practical guides to the implementation of these specific technologies with clear, concise languange and examples! While the W2K and COM+ coverage is light, it outlines some of the items that warrant further investigation on your own.

This book sure to be one of the most often used reference books in my library on VB. I recommend it highly to anyone asking about object/component design and development and I highly recommend it to you now.

Good book on VB object and component
I studied the object oriented programming(OOP) with C++ before, but I do not know much on OOP with VB. So I purchased this book to learn OOP with visual basic, as well as component design. It is proved that this is really a good purchase. After reading the book, I am doing very well on the object oriented programming with Visual Basic now. I would recommend this book to the programmers who are interested in VB object and component. However, I do think that this book can be better if it is better sentenced. I have read many technical books. It takes me some time to understand what the author is talking about sometimes with this book.

The True Elvis
I totally loved this book. It gives you a glimpse of the true Elvis before all the pressures changed him. And you get a glimpse of what his life was like with his mom and dad.It was a wonderful true love story. I could actually picture myself in the story, June gives such good details!! I think any Elvis fan will come a way with a truely good feeling after having read this book. It's GREAT!!!!

Excellent!
I first borrowed this book from the library when i need to do a project about a famous person.I found it by chance because i don't know any thing about Elvis Presley at first. But after i read this excellent book, i was so attracted by the Elvis that June wrote about, and i rushed to the bookstore to buy this book.In this book, you can find that you are with the king of rock'n' roll.

A must for any Elvis fan
I truly loved this book. It showed a side of Elvis Presley that is unknown to alot of people. It brought out the young innocent Elvis who seemed every bit as normal as you & me. June obviously was very much in love with him. You could feel the love between them. This seemed to be the side of Elvis who was faithful & wanted to be married & have a family. This was before he became completely overwhelmed by the stardom & drug problems. The two seemed perfect together. The book is also very comical. Elvis & June have a great sense of humor & seem to have so much fun together. It is a wonderful book any Elvis fan would enjoy especially the female fans!

Wow -- finally some advice that makes sense
This is a carefully thought-through way to change the way you relate to food. It's based on the simple idea that you're not going to change your habits overnight, so you're asked to make changes over the course of time. You lose weight by paying more attention to what you're eating, and not eating too much of it -- it's not a typical diet program.

Independent of the book, the program is also offered on the web at changeone.com -- which may be a unique tie-in with a book of this kind. They're offering a free trial week there now.

Simple, Sensible and Sensational!
I bought ChangeOne by John Hastings almost a month ago and it has been a lifesaver! I poured through the book section looking for something that would help me to permanently take off the extra weight I have been carrying for years. Every book out there, had a gimmick. Protein diets, the Hawaii diet, Sugar Busters, Atkins, etc. I wanted to skip the diet and go straight to maintenance so that I could change my lifestyle to become healthier and thinner. ChangeOne contains the basic information that you need to learn about eating healthier, portion control and how to deal with eating out, family pressure and social gatherings. They have meal suggestions and calorie guidelines. Everything in this book makes sense. Eat healthy. Watch your portions. Exercise. The weight comes off slowly, but surely. I have lost almost 30 lbs in 13 weeks, which is not slow, but I went on the "Fast Track" by incorporating the entire program during the first week instead of one meal at a time. When you understand what size portions you should be eating and begin to follow that routine, you will feel satisfied after eating. I love the website that supports the book changeone.com and I have had no problems accessing any part of the website. I have 20 more pounds to lose and I'm looking forward to losing it and maintening it with ChangeOne!

This Is All You Need
This book by John Hastings puts an important issue in it's proper context and provides thorough and complete steps to achieve one's goals. The focus is to go slow yet also be comprehensive. Our bad habits can't be shoved under the rug in a day. The initial enthusiasm for those partaking in other "new" programs and fads wanes if one denies themselves of this-and-that, and forces one to eat or drink that-and-this. How long does that usually last? You can answer that yourself. The purchase price of this book will help you if you're serious, and save you a lot more than videos, "new" workout equipment or everyday gimmicks we're bombarded with by the Diet Industry.

Focusing on sound, proven, and common-sense nutritional principles, Change One offers the healthiest and most wholistic guide to health AND weight loss that's been produced in some time. In contrast to those who advocate ramming fat and protein down our throats, not eating before noon, or spending money on the "Hollywood diet shake."

Under Change One, a person doesn't have to deny themselves everything of what they like, but moderation is important, like everything in life. One can eat out in restaurants at times and there are recommendations on ordering a variety of things so as not to sabotage your progress. There is also a self-assessment guide to give you a look into what your habits are. Hastings takes a not-at-all-boring-approach to caloric intake, portions, adjusting the kitchen to good eating, stress relief, and exercise, which are all components to healthy living. If being healthy and of optimal weight is important to a person they should take it seriously. Other programs sell quick-fixes, gimmicks, and defeatist magic tricks that only focus on one aspect of weight-loss and often times are detrimental to our health rather than helpful.

25 Shoto-Kan Kata

25 Shotokan Kata gives a unique approach to Kata.
Most of the books that I have seen on teaching Kata become either a picture book of some Champion doing Kata or show some arcane applications to Kata. In this respect 25 Shotokan Kata is very refreshing.

25 Shotokan Kata is the only book on the market that is solely concerned with the teaching of kata. While it doesn't make for exciting pictures (with cartoon-style Kiai's overlayed) it does focus on what students need to learn Kata. In fact since using this book I don't have to teach my students the moves to the kata anymore, rather, I can take more time looking at correction and application.

For the Karate student that needs to learn the kata's this book is essential.

Review by a Shotokan Shodan(1st degree Black belt)
You know that in Karate there are 3 K's;Kata,Kihon, and Kumite. Well, for the Kata part this book will fullfill every aspect of the kata branch of Karate. The Price is excellent, ...Also, this book is revised so all body parts and facial expressions can be completely seen. It explains every kata's timing, speed, and in depth meanings of techniques. It even shows the techniques use against an apponent or a weapon, and if you dont understand the pictures you have the text to back you up,it even has a full dictionary of terms in the back. Thanks to Shihan Hideteka Nishiyama(9th Dan) the kata is not variable from the ones Soke Gichin Funakoshi used to practice. Nishiyama being a direct student of Funakoshi, but so was Nakayama; however that book is not comparable to this one.

A must have for learning Shotokan Kata!
This book is very easy to understand. It presents the reader with the first steps to learning kata by providing the student with the sequence of moves as well as the timing of the moves. It also includes applications for some of the more intricate moves.

Unlike other kata books which detail the moves via photographs, the line drawings allow the student to see how to transition from one move to the next. And the use of compass points makes it easy to keep track of where you are supposed to be going.

This is a good book for beginner and advanced students as it includes the 25 traditional shotokan kata.

the book is the single best source for parents and lawyers
Pete Wright is the attorney who turned things around in special education by winning the famous "Shannon Carter" case holding that parents did not have to wait for lethargic or negligent school districts to help their children. Carter held that the parents could place the child at an out of district school and get reimbursment later, whether the school they chose was approved by state or local authorities or not.

I am an attorney who has handled literally hundreds of these special education matters.Be this book, I would have to carry an armful of materials to a hearing or an IEP meeting. Now its all in one paperback volume.

It is also in language the non-lawyer can understand. (and even lawyers). It is also laced with the Wright's wisdom from their many years as pioneers in this specialized field of law.

Don't go to a hearing or school IEP meeting without it.

Great Resource for Parents and Professionals
This is a great resource, putting all the laws, rules and regulations that are relevant to special education in one handy place. In addition to the actual copies of laws, notation of relevant case law is a really useful addition. Overviews of the laws/regulations and commentary are extremely helpful.

This book is a valuable resource for school psychologists, and it is required reading for my graduate course covering legal and ethical issues for school psychologists in training. Knowing the regulations and the law will help professionals plan programs that meet the needs of children and the requirements of the law.

I recommend it highly for parents, also. Parents are many times at a disadvantage because they do not know the law. With this book as a reference parents can be a fully participating member of the special education team.

One-stop-shopping for Special Education Law
Prior to purchasing Pete and Pam's Book, "Wrightslaw," I was forced to look to a variety of resources in order to locate all of the pertinent educational laws, codes, regulations, and landmark special education cases. I now have one legal resource manual, a book which fits easily into a briefcase for travel to IEP team meetings, hearings, appeals, mediations, workshops, conferences and seminars.

I have purchased two books -- one for my own use and the other as a loaner to parents who cannot afford to buy their own. This book is a "must have" for knowledgable advocates, parents who want to know more about special education law, and attorneys who want a "one-stop shopping" legal resource.

Common-sense thinking about juggling parenthood and life
While this book was written for a primarily American audience, it still made alot of good sense for me as a New Zealand mother-to-be. What she proposes is really very simple - moving away from the overparenting trap, including our children as part of our lives as women rather than our whole reason for being, allowing the parenting to extend beyond just the nuclear family and most importantly of all, elevating the role of the father as parent. Made sense to me.

Rejecting the martyrdom excuse
As a woman contemplating beginning a family, I've been concerned with the issue of how I will balance my desire to be a good parent while also still having a life. I wasn't looking for validation of a career choice so much as guidance for thinking about the issue on my own. To that end, I found this book to be extremely useful and stimulating for thought--Joan Peters shed light on attitudes and assumptions I have had without every questioning or examining their sources. I came to realize that many of them are not consistent with my values, and reading the book was the first step in changing them. I appreciate the book's sensitivity to the many concerns women have regarding motherhood and career, and the fact that it isn't just saying "buck up and put your kid in childcare, you have a right." That would not have served me. Instead, it focuses much more on gender issues and how we can adapt parenting to better include both the mother and father for the everyone's benefit. It also brings to light the way that some women use having children as a way to avoid identity conflicts of their own. She asks some tough questions with regard to this, which I think will help some women get to the heart of their real motives for motherhood. If you simultaneously feel that you weren't put on the earth solely to reproduce but also care deeply about doing right by your children, this book will assist you in striking a balance that will work.

A great reinforcer for Mom's who wonder if it's ok to work!
No mother returns to work without some feeling of ambivalence. This book does a solid job of dispelling the myths of the benefits of the always available mother which society seems to call for and gives so many reasons why Mother's work outside the home is good for the whole family. I have read it over and over and find new jewels of wisdom each time. Ms. Peters speaks of the value of work with confidence and conviction while never losing her tenderness when voicing so beautifully the absolute joy which children bring to our lives.

Pascal is so good that it is amazing he is not better known
Well, not that amazing. The Pensees are very hard going and have been crying out for some brutal editing. Kreeft does this admirably. I am much less convinced by his own commentary which doesn't seem to add all that much. Still Pascal is pretty close to perfect to start off with so it isn't really fair to expect Kreeft to add to his work.

I think that the passages selected should be published as a short Pascal primer by a mainstream publisher with much shorter notes. Pascal is the best apologist for today by miles and really deserves far more attention.

Kreeft's commentary makes it harder to hand this book to an intelligent atheist or agnostic as he makes his agenda so clear from the start. Let Pascal speak for himself and we will have a powerful weapon against secularism and sceptics.

Well worth the read!
Pascal's Pensees are a must read for anyone who cares about himself or others.

Kreeft's commentary varies between very helpful (giving context to some of Pascal's references) to obstructive (Sometimes his commentaries seem to be about what Kreeft wanted to say, not about what Pascal was saying.)

The commentary is easy to skip over or to read if you want, so it your like/dislike for it shouldn't be a noteworthy hinderance to your enjoyment of the book.

Everyone must read this book.
It's truly a wonder that Pascal's Pensees are not more well-known. The paradox that is humankind is broken down, analyzed, and explained in clear, accessible snippets. I was a fan of this work BEFORE Kreeft did his editing and annotation. Man, two of my favorite writers, together in one book... truly a dream come true. If you're on this page reading this review, it must mean you're at least SOMEWHAT interested in this book. Let me help you along--this is a book well worth taking a chance on. It won't fail you. THE DEAREST OF FRIENDS
With a mingling of joy and sorrow, I have completed the gift of Brendan O'Carroll's trilogy of the Agnes Browne family. I wish these books could go on forever, they are that lovely.

"The Granny" is steeped in beautiful sentiment that is this family. The lives of the Browne brood as adults are examined, winding the reader down many streets of promises, with painful detours along the journey. The telling of their tales is vintage O'Carroll, rich with humor, drama, and the fragile aspects of life that makes it honest.

Give yourself a wonderous treat and buy the trilogy. Like me, you will become enthralled with this family, marred by flaws, detoured by mistakes, but enduringly loving. I adored these books, and can only hope Brendan O'Carroll will take pity on his fans and write more sequels!!!

Completion Of The Perfect Trilogy
Mr. Brendan O'Carroll has created with, "The Mammy", "The Chisellers", and, "The Granny", a trilogy that is exceptionally well written, a joy to read, and an alternative Irish Tale. I differentiate this work from the more familiar read about an Irish Family, for while the life of this Family is far from perfect, it is not extreme in its portrayal of the darker sides of people, be they Irish, or in the case of this book, French or Jewish as well. Of the three books this could be noted as the one that brings events together too neatly, especially when a given outcome is positive. I believe this appraisal would be unfair, as the Author balances the experiences of his characters, and even if he had favored the positive, why would that be deserving of scorn?

This book does bring certain threads of the story to a conclusion. The Author could easily continue the stories of this Family, or a given member, but the trilogy; I believe should stand by itself.

Once again the third book takes place when additional time has passed. The Browne Children are children no longer, and with offspring of their own the cycle begins again with the newest of the Brownes. Agnes transitions from Mammy to Granny, as her children take their place as Mammies and Dads to children of there own. Some of the new Families are traditional, some less so, however as in the previous two books while ignorance and the ugly behavior it breeds is not hidden, overall acceptance and tolerance are great virtues of this man's work.

The three works are as close to faultless storytelling as I have read, and I hope I can look forward to many more books by this Author. He will have a tremendous challenge to repeat this success, but as he has done it three times in succession, waiting for additional novels should not be a wait in vain.

If you come to the end of this book and your eyes are not at least full, see your Doctor. Your tear ducts are clogged.

Mr. O'Carroll my sincere thanks.

This was the perfect ending to a great trilogy
The Granny was great. It wasn't overdone and had just th right mixture to finish off this great trilogy without letting you down.

Brendan O'Carroll did a spectaular job, again. He giave us just the right mixture of laughter and tears. Again you were on the edge of your seat wondering what would be next. There were a few items that he illuded to but you knew the out come of each illusion before he let on and you were ok with that it make you feel smarter and like a member of the family.

As with the other book the ending was perfect, simple, sweet and honest. There are no Hollywood endings here and not everything happens the way you think it should.

Buy all the books at the same time and become a member of the Browne clan. It's worth the trip.

A Great Book for Girls
Hey! If you're bored and can't find a good book, look for this: Judy Moody was in a mood. Not a Good mood.A Bad mood by:Megan Mcdonald. Let me tell about the main character : Judy Moody. She is a girl who isn't too girly, if she was too girly, she would hate venis fly traps, plus she wouldn't have a best friend who is a boy. To tell the truth I think I'm telling too much about this book. I might tell you everything so I'm just telling you this....(this is the part that is funny) when Judy got...... well uses a fake hand, in a toilet for her brother, but when he found out I giggled in my mind. Like I was saying, I have to get to the point: read it it's a great book for girls, but if you don't like it you might be a boy.The reason i like it is because it's realistic. I don't like too funny books, plus I didn't know, but the Moodys (Judy's main family) lives in Virginia. Well, this is a really great book. If you want to know, just read it!

Read All-About-Judy Moody!
Judy Moody is a wonderful book - thought provoking, adventurous... and funny! Not only will readers have fun learning about Judy and her moods, but they'll also learn how Judy deals with her moods. Luckily Judy is quite a creative thinker, which helps her turn some of the "worst things ever" into some of the best things ever. The illustrations are absolutely fabulous - very whimsical and playful... a perfect fit for the story!

As a guidance counselor, I can already see many ways to use Judy Moody with kids in my work - from discussing "moods", problem solving, and friendships, to self-awareness through the "All-About-Me" project. This book will appeal to both boys and girls alike - a must for every library, classroom, and family bookshelf!

I'm in the mood for Judy Moody!
What a treat! NOt only to read this awesomely playful novel but also to be asked to illustrate it! I remember when I was eight, picture books were layed to rest and chapter books were next, but they often lacked art, so I WAS DETEREMINED to stuff this one FULL of art! Candlewick did an amazing job packaging the book. It feels like a little box of chocolates! Enjoy and savor. There's more Moody on the way!
