A classic, like all of Nesbit's children's books.
E. Nesbit's books have a well-deserved place on my shelf next to the C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia and Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles, and more recently, Harry Potter. I discovered her books through those of Edward Eager; if you have read and enjoyed any of E. Nesbit's books before, I recommend you take the opposite journey and check out Eager's books now (start with Half Magic.) A real treat.

A Great Intuitive Approach to Nurturing Your Baby
Instead of a "one size fits all" advice book this book does a great job of explaining the importance of responding to your baby as a unique person. Every child is different and by listening to their individual needs instead of trying to follow general advice one can connect more closely and meet the child's needs more effectively. As a simple example, this approach bolstered my resolve when relatives and strangers alike told me that my infant son needed to be dressed more warmly than he seemed to like. Now eight years old he has always been warm when most people are cold and resists wearing coats until the rest of us are shivering. This is just one small example of the cumulative benefits that come from reading and considering the perspective so beautifully described in this book. When in doubt listen to your baby and your heart.

Inspirational! Awsome!
This author signed copy has been in my library unread for around 8 years. I regret to say I dont remember Evelyn B. Shore because if I could talk to her now there is so much i would like to say.
The book starts out with her and her 4 sibling and their parents trapping in the remote areas of the Alaska during fall and winter seasons for a decade. She grows up knowing nothing but survival and hunting. The simple fun she desribes having with her siblings make me wish I were there. She was the greatest of women in her capabilities. Her driscription of the Northwwest fills my soul. The added photos are great in seeing what it must have been like.
This was a great book I would reccomend to anyone who considers themselves a survivor or who would enjoy the way life use to be.

Sung Buddhism
Studies of Buddhism in China continue to flourish, and this is an excellent collection of essays that showcase the strengths of a historically-informed understanding of this religious tradition. Hawaii continues to lead the field in its publication of high-quality monographs and essay-collections on Buddhism. Some of the essays in the collection are stronger than others, though on the whole, this is a quite readable scholarly work. Shinohara's essay is especially good.

helpful info to black women in abusive relationships
Chain Chain Change is a self help book that provides extremely helpful information to black women in abusive relationships. White repeatedly enforces the idea that abuse is not the woman's fault and that it should not be tolerated. Throughout the book the reader is given small bits of helpful information and hints that may be just enough to to get a woman out of an abusive relationship. This book can be helpful to women of all ethnicities. White does however focus on the "history" of abuse in the relationships if blacks especially focusing on the racism blacks face and how that affects their self esteem. She says that such treatment can often lead a black man to feel helpless and powerless, lead him to feel as though he is unable to provide from his family. These types of emotions are what White says can often lead a black man to violence. She also stresses that black women should not worry about causing rifts in the black community if they were to report domestic violence, as they are so often told is what will happen ; when reporting violence, they should worry about their own physical and mental well being as well as their childrens; they are the ones in immediate danger. One other extremely important aspect of this book, which is new to the recent edition, is the section on abuse in lesbian relationships. By including this section White shows that abuse happens in all forms of relationships, and lets the reader know that help is available.

This book changes lives.
This is three books in one: "What Happens When Women Pray", "Lord Change Me", and "Gaining Through Losing". The author presents huge, yet simple concepts that will change your prayer life--and hence your life in general. Written in a very conversational tone with lots of interesting personal stories to illustrate each point. Ms. Christenson shows us what she's learned about prayer--from experience. Brilliantly done.

Worth reading over again
I have two small daughters. This book will come in handy for years to come! It deals with divorce and remarriage (which I am going through) as well as how your daughter is feeling at different ages. I suggest this book to parents with daughters of all ages. It is insightful and well written. It will become a permanent part of my library for future reference.
