Anthropology and Homosexual Behavior
Somtimes a little dry, however this text has provided some very well thought-out bits of information. It seems as though the author was thorough in her research. It provides a good backbone to the study of gay history. She should be commended for her Herculean effort. It's information every gay man and lesbian should have in their arsenal if ever the topic comes up and you are called upon in discussion to defend the entire culture as a whole. Recommended reading.

The Must Have Bible for Purse Collectors!
If you are a serious purse collector, you really can't live without Mrs. Haerigs' purse book! This huge volume displays extensive full color photos of more purses than you can even imagine. The copy helps fill in some of those gaps in your knowledge and helps you figure out which purses are rare enough to spend the big bucks on! There only a few draw backs. In a couple of places, the wrong picture is reffered to in the text and you have to flip around until you find what is being refered to. Some of the text also seems to wander abit and lose focus. However, these flaws are easily outweighed by the sheer volume of pictures and the fact that the book is written by the pre-eminent authority on purses. Take a deep breath and fork out the greens, you can't become a real collector without this book at hand!!

A unique and novel perspective on Renaissance Art and Life
An excellent examination of the role of art in Renaissance life, including the actual day to day workings of the artists, their roles in the society as a whole, and the role of art itself in the display of "Magnificence" of the respective ruling authorities of the various Italian states. I have run across no other book with this unique perspective. It also discusses the role of women and women artists, while recognizing the extreme limits set for women, both in the society and in the creation of art works. I regret not being able to contact the author directly to offer my respect and admiration for such a formidable and at the same time completely accessible work of scholarship.

Great Comic Read!
this is the funniest book I have ever read. My favorite chapter is called Expressing Affection. I think it is hilarious that people might have followed this strictly at one time. No offense to those who did. It is just funny in this day and time and sometimes i wish boys still acted this way.

For Shakespeare Lovers
It is refreshing to find an author who can find an intersection between serious feminist critique and a true love of Shakespeare's work. In this book, Evelyn Gajowski explores the tension between the role of women as objects of men's projections and their own experience of subjectivity in Shakespeare's plays. The author studies three characters - Juliet, Desdemona, and Cleopatra- in detail to show how Shakespeare created women protagonists who are subjective human beings, independent of the objectifications of the male characters.

The key to understanding the essence of Egypt
I read this book about 10 years ago, and it is one of very few books that have left their marks on me. This book was a wake-up call for me, having been born and raised in Cairo, 3 miles from the site of this excellent research by Evelyn Early, on the other side of the tracks (so to speak). Baladi women are the hearts and souls of Egypt. The title of the book itself ("playing with an egg and a stone"), shows how well the author defined the Baladi women, in a nutshell. If you want to understand the essence of the true Egypt (present and ancient), you must read this book.

Teaches how to use a correct word combination
This Dictionary of English is very useful for non-native or even native people. You are able to write letters or speak in an appropriate way using the exact combination with prepositions, or adjectives for a specific word. I highly recommend this book for those who are non-native and have problems in using a correct combination of words. You should buy it as your second dictionary.

The Black Women's Health Book: Speaking for Ourselves
I have found this book to be not only educational, but highly entertaining and pertient toward my life. It address issues that affect every woman, but pinpoints Afro-American women specifically by tackling issues from sexual abuse to homosexuality, and the way these issues play themselves out in the black community as a whole. The editor Evelyn C. White has done a great job of empowering women to not be afraid of being black in today's America. By choosing to include viewpoints from authors like Zora Neale Hurston and Beverly Smith,it becomes evident that black women have always found a way to take care of themselves; even when professional medicial care was not an option, their resolution stood tall in the face of adversity. One of the best stories was by a young woman as she recounted her concerns about going to a predominantly white, male medical school in Philadelphia. She had to deal with multiple demons. Not only did she have blantant racism staring her in the face from classmates not so professionally "neutral" in their views of what roles a black woman should hold in society, but the inner doubt that she was betraying the community that she came from, who weren't always treated fairly. This anthology talks about how black women face obstacles few other ethnic groups encounter on a daily basis. Most important of these being the disapproval of the black community within in this country, that doesn't always realize that we do have a voice, and intend to use it for the greater good of women everywhere, but most importantly ourselves.

A Must!
How many times do you hear fundamentalist Christians complain about society's ignoring about the Ten Commandments? Lots I'm sure. But then how many times do you hear the same fundamentalists complain about how society has ignored the Beatitudes? Probably never. In her book, Sr. Mattern reminds us of the Beatitudes in a moving and always thought provoking manner. After all, these are the heart of the teachings of Jesus. The Jesus the fundamentalists claim to follow and would do well to listen to.
