A definate must for the Gorey connoisseur
More fun than Betsy McCall cut-outs! This toy theatre recreates the stellar sets of Broadway's Dracula (Cort Theatre). EXPLORE:The delightfully gothic decor at Lucy's abode, and Carfax Abbey. IMAGINE: yourself drawn - no etched into the maudulent world of smoldering sensuality, stolen glances, and mysterious things that-go-bump-in the moon-drenched- night. HEAR: The tap-tap-tapping of long, bony fingers scratching on the window glass in Lucy's room, beckoning her closer, closer... FIND: The subliminal visually prosaic "Ode to Chiroptera" (i.e.bats) embedded in the renderings of the Abbey, the clouds, .... Stoker would be proud!!

Last of the "One Nation" Tories
This is a first-rate study of an underrated figure who is in danger of being overlooked by future generations. John Campbell makes a compelling case for Heath as a good prime minister who was overwhelmed by the economic crises that beset the West in the early 1970s. As a result, his is a political career that is defined by its failures (losing three of four elections while the leader of the Conservative Party) and is being overshadowed by those of his contemporaries -- Harold Wilson and Margaret Thatcher -- rather than for his critical role in the most important event of Britain's post-1945 history: entry into the European Economic Community and the European Union that followed. This book is an important step towards according Heath his rightful place in history.

Contandoles sobre El Cuento
Hello! I am a Spanish Major at the University of California at Santa Barbara and El Cuento by John A. Crow and Edward Dudley was required for an advanced grammar course. I found the content very useful as it not only introduces the reader to prevalent authors and themes in Spanish literature, but familiarizes the reader with how to read the literature and what to look for.

Eleanor of Castile: Queen and Society in Thirteenth-Century England
Published in Hardcover by Palgrave Macmillan (1995)
Author: John Carmi Parsons
Amazon base price: $65.00
Used price: $172.69
Average review score:

An exemplary study!
This is a wonderful book that discusses not only Eleanor, but the institution of queenship in medieval England. Parsons is a master at looking at a subject from a variety of disciplinary approaches and angles. Readers should be warned it presumes a thorough knowledge of thirteenth-century European politics, though.

Exploring Underwater: The Sierra Club Guide to Scuba and Snorkling

Amazon base price: $15.00

" best " for the advanced beginner, good coverage of topics
the book is very well written, easy to read and understand. the topics covered are those that any advanced diver may encounter on any dive in saltwater. it goes just deep enough into the subjects to give you a fairly through knowlage of what to expect on a dive into the discribed enviroment without boreing you with lenghty technical terms that only a scientest would understand. it discribes boat diving, deep diving, underwater hunting, cold, kelp, wall, wrecks, night, camera, caves, dangers and hazards with life forms at depths, as well as human physiology and the hazards associated with hyperbaric activity. it also covers the equipment, and educational aspect of learning snorkling and scuba. It IS a very good book, and if you have more than just a passing interest in scuba diving, then this book is a "must read" book. It is the most fulfilling book I have read on diving. it was published in 1980, and some of diving techniques have changed slightly, (at least in my area,-pac.N.W.)the ocean and its critters have remained the same. .....Lou

Farmboy: Hard Work and Good Times on a Farm That Helped Change Northeast Agriculture
Published in Paperback by De Witt Historical Society (01 June, 1999)
Authors: John B. Babcock, John Marcham, and Dewitt Historical Society of Tompkins County

Tales of growing up on a farm in the 2930s
Agricultural history threatens to be dull and tedious; hence this highly personal account of the adventures of the author from age 9 to 19 on a family farm in the Northeast. A series of vignettes describing chores and other farm work are interspersed with high humor, pranks and harsh physical effort.

The farm setting was the family home of aggricultural leader, economist and teacher, Howard E. Babcock, for years Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Ithaca's Cornell University. Introducing many new farm practices, he told readers of his popular page "Kernels, Screenings and Chaff," in the American Agriculturist magazine of new ways to manage grasslands, employ used auto tires to ease operation of farm equipment. He counseled them to buy open-formula farm feeds from the huge farm cooperative he organized and managed, The GLF (now Agway).

Babcock also introduced farmers and ultimately all consumers, to prepare and consume frozen farm produce and meats. Home freezers were one of the most important contributers to improved diet and life style not only of farmers, but all consumers.

Young John Babcock tells of shooting woodchucks and rats, tending livestock, and operating new farm machines that his dad started to promote in the midst of the Depression decade. After the 1933 Bank Holiday, loan rates fell to the lowest in many years.

Life was hard, but this farm family never missed a meal, nor the chance to enjoy life to its fullest in an era marked by sweeping change. I submit it as a high spirited and readable account.

An inclusive reference, very well done
This is a quite inclusive book of Chesapeake Bay fish. Many Atlantic species that stray into the mouth of the Bay are also included. Excellent scientific drawings, many color plates, good concise text. It is geared towards reference (not a Sunday read). Very well done.
