John Richards monograph on the genus Primula is the best book I have seen on the subject. I work with primroses every day and it would be much more difficult without this clarifying volume. The theoretical background is sound, the disposition is easy to follow and the illustrations are both informative and pleasing to the eye.

I have two other books in spanish by this author and my four year old loves them. this is a very simple story of animals at the zoo that need to take a bath. The first two pages have some vocabulary words. If you want your kids to learn spanish than this is a good one to start out with because it is short, simple, and funny.

I was first introduced to "The Protectorate and the Northumberland Conspiracy" through assigned reading in a history course I took in college. Most students agree that assigned reading is typically laborious - not pleasurable and fascinating. This book, however, captured my interest immediately. Professor Brown went to great lengths to detail all the characters and their motivations involved in the power struggle of the Tudor throne. For anyone interested in monarchal legitimacy, religious controversies, power plays, politics, and yes-even sex scandals, this book satisfies in style! I especially like that the author did not dumb down the prose to a basal vernacular, as is common in the literature of our time. Even amongst the opulence of the past, no era is without its controversy, hypocrisy, and turmoil. The six years this book illustrates is packed with drama the likes only seen in Hollywood. Typically, only Henry VIII, Mary, and Elizabeth I are treated as worthy subjects of in depth study. But, Professor Brown has carefully shown that the years in between merit the same attention. As such, "The Protectorate and Northumberland Conspiracy" inspired me to learn more about all of the Tudors legends. I also was able to incorporate the knowledge I acquired through the study of this book in an interview I had at Cambridge University in England!

A very in depth and intriguing view into the life and lifestyles of the children and grandchildren of the "grandmother of europe", Queen Victoria. If you are after something easy to read and digest but not too in depth,on a wide variety of royals, then Van der kiste is the author for you. I find his books to be very interesting to read as well as informative, which is a hard combination to find. Very good reading! Im on to his next book.

College-level and reference collections with strong drama sections will want to include this resource in their libraries: Reader's Encyclopedia Of World Drama reprints a 1969 classic, with entries on national drama, playwrights, plays and genres providing country listings and historical surveys alike. Complete coverage of major dramatic genres and many minor styles are included in this comprehensive work.

I highly recommend this guide for anyone considering graduate school in the humanities. These people are really good at digging in and giving us the real dirt, which is not only good to know, but fun to read.

If you're interested in the life of Edward John Trelawny, you'll have to look elsewhere. Suffice it to say that Tre' (as his friends knew him) was a privateer, a scoundrel, a lover of poetry, a freedom-fighter and a loyal friend of the most prolific literary talents of the romantic period. "Records of Shelley, Byron and the Author" is an account, not of Trelawny's extraordinary life & adventures, but of the two men that helped make that life so extraordinary. In his own words, he tells of the secret lives of Byron and the Shelley's, their romp through sunny Italy and the tragic death of Percy in the coast of Spezzia. The tale continues as Tre' follows Byron to the bloody civil war in Greece, where Byron too dies. To his credit, though, it is never "Trelawny's tale", but "Byron and Shelley's tale" as told by Trelawny. This deep, insightful book shows the poets as only a close friend could. Yet throughout, one can not help but love Trelawny himself: the man who supported the impoverished Mary Shelley to her dying day... the man who bought a slave for $10,000 only to set him free... the man who reached into the embers of Shelley's pyre, withdrawing his heart. If you love the poetry of Byron and Shelley & have even a passing interest in the men behind the legends, then Trelawny's memoirs are a must-read.

This is a wonderful little book! I bought this for my 4 year old son, and he just loves it. He is not yet able to read, but really enjoys the beautiful photos. It also comes with a reference card that has thumbnails of all of the most common reptiles. So that if you see one, you can find it quickly. He looks at it for hours. It's a fun learning tool.

In detailing the largest and most significant research study of its type (i.e. The MacArthur Study of Mental Disorder and Violence), Rethinking Risk Assessment describes what is surely to become the seminal work in the area violence and mental illness. The authors point to the methodological flaws in many earlier studies that failed to establish clear links between mental illness and violence. It moves beyond previous studies to point to a clear link between serious mental illness and an increased risk of violence.

Although based upon a North American population (i.e. with its higher societal rates of violence generally) the size of the study, and the relationships it demonstrates suggest that this work has significant implications for other jurisdictions. The book illustrates tools clinicians can use to assist with identification of those with higher for risk of violence.

Although actuarial methods do not offer a panacea for problems associated with risk prediction, they nevertheless provide pointers for increasing the precision with which such assessments can be made. Monahan et. al. acknowledge the limitations of such methods, and point to the complexity of clinical risk assessment for violence potential. The authors also point to the broader contextual, and problematic issues associated with false positives and negatives, in terms of prediction.

Armed with the information contained within this text, clinical staff will have a thorough grounding in the most up to date evidence in the field. This should provide a solid foundation from which staff can approach the complex issue of considering risk assessment generally.

The last book published by Raymond E Brown prior to his death, it combines serious scholarship and prayerful reflection on the author of the Fourth gospel. The reader gets the feeling that Brown knew the "beloved disciple" on a personal basis. Many of the insights he shares about the community of the beloved disciple and the significance of the Fourth Gospel are profound and deeply moving. A book that is a real page turner.
