Redemptive History
It is hard to give anything lower than 5 stars to our great theologian, Jonathan Edwards. A quick read of this book takes me a few months to complete. However, the time is definietly well spent. Edwards powerfully showed how the work of redemption was carried on through the time from the fall to the end of the world. It is truly amazing how edwards cover the redemptive history with a strong link on the destruction of Jerusalem, the time of constantine, reformation, the rise of anti-christ, etc. You must not miss this book if you want to have a good perspective of biblical history. Don't settle for anything less.

I never read this particular addition
In 1945 I attended a public technical school in Toronto,Ontario,Canada. The earlier additions of this book were the basis of our four year course at that school. The book is a self teacher and can really teach and inprove the knowledge of anyone involved in the industrial electrical world. I became a chief electrical engineer for a major company through the school of hard knocks. This book always had a place on my desk. Each time I went to construction sites and someone would ask about certain technical details of the electrical industry I would always end the conversation with a recomendation to purchace this book. I am sure sorry to understand that the author is no longer with us ,but can understand this as I am 69 years old. Just in case this bit of history would get lost here is where the book started. Naydon worked for esthe ford motor company with another engineer called Gillman and both their names appeared on early edditions of the book. It was used as a training book for electricians who joined the Ford Motor Company. The book coveres a wide range of subjects which every electrician should know if he wants to get ahead. Sure hope this helps electricians and industrial engineers who might consider the purchace of this book

Excellent read!
Being an IT professional, I have looked for some time for an easy-to-understand book on the various wireless technologies. I just came upon this book a very short while ago and am amazed! This book presents the major wireless topics in a clear manner. It also covers the major emerging wireless technlogies like WAP, Bluetooth, etc. And, it even provides some informative exercises to get the knoweledge down "pat". I have read many books lately, but this one is a real "keeper" (and I am generally hard to please).

Carefully Wrought and Measured Truth
Cifelli's biography of Ciardi is a carefully wrought story of an illustrious life in poetry that should interest anyone who reads or studies American literature. John Ciardi was an interesting man who had to buck the ethnic prejudices of his time. The adventures of his life in poetry are well worth reading. Edward Cifelli is an skilled writer of this poet's life and he has done an excellent job of weeding out the truth and balancing his portrayal so that we love Ciardi, even while we see his human foibles. He creates emapthy for his subject without going overboard, so that his words are thoroughly believable and offer a measured truth of the man and his fine accomplishements. An excellent portrait of the poet's times, too, and the issues that confront a poet in America!

Jonathan Edwards-Evangelist by John Gerstner
It is important for every Christian to have a grasp of God honouring Biblical evangelism. The Lord Jesus has commanded His people to "go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." In the opinion of many Jonathan Edwards is the greatest theologian that this nation has seen. John Gerstner has done a great service to the church of Christ in our generation by distilling for us the evangelistic theology of Mr.Edwards ,something which Edwards himself did not do. What type of preaching does God use in revivals? Edwards gives us his thoughts on the matter p.28 "The consideration of hell commonly is the first thing that rouses sleeping sinners. By this means their sins are set in order before them, and their conscience stares them in the face, and they begin to see their need of a priest and sacrifice" to which Gerstner adds these important words "most wicked men who have heard of hell have internal uneasiness(Prov.29:25).On the other hand a principal means of being lost is thinking there will be no punishment." Portions of this book highlight the importance of preaching on the doctrine of everlasting punishment. This is especially applicable to the spiritual climate in which we presently live as the doctrine of hell continues to be abandoned by some well known 'evangelicals'. If you need to have your thinking crystalized on Biblical evangelism then this book may be as helpful as any chistian book in print to accomplish that end.

One of the greatest summations I have ever read!!
This may sound strange, but I rank this little book as one of the two greatest paperback books that a man could own. (you'll have to guess the other)
Why the stupendous claim? Edwards was one of the greatest minds ever given to the Christian Church, and he had an amazing way of seeing life, through the lenses of Scripture, and understanding, like a photo-negative, what hell must be like. Hell, like the beauties of Heaven, is unable to be expressed in human language, and therefore, it can only be "seen" through the use of symbolic language. The horror of hell can not be uttered: if a man were to see hell, he could not live. Like Paul in the vision of Heaven, there are no faculties within natural man to express what he experienced. Edwards finds a way to help.

When you read Edwards on Heaven, you feel almost "other-worldly", ("how long have I been sitting here reading this??), and when you read Edwards on Hell, the holy dread that fills your mind and emotions is overwhelming, as well as life-changing. Dr. Gerstner goes for the Truth, which he unashamedly owns, and has a true gift of representing Edwards' sight to anyone who cares to see. Gerstner does not write with "one eye on impressing the scholar", but with a deep care for the reader, almost pleading with us: "Hear Edwards! If you hear him, you will hear Paul, and therefore, you will HEAR CHRIST!".

From Fairy Tale to Reality
Like most girls, I was raised to believe in fairy tales and that, deep inside, I really was a royal princess. It's the most cherished dream of girlhood and Wallis Warfield Simpson bought into that dream in a way that had a profound impact on the history of the British monarchy. The story of Edward VIII and Wallis has been officially portrayed along those fairy tale lines. But it's tough to grow up and realize that fairies don't exist, and that the Windsors were Nazi sympathizers not fit to sit on the throne of England. Still, I find the truth more satisfying than the official fiction because it makes sense of history. The morganatic solution had been done before; why not in the case of Edward VIII? It makes more sense that Wallis was the excuse, not the real reason, behind the abdication. John Parker provides convincing evidence in an easy-to-read history of both the Windsors and their social set. I found it hard to put this book down.
