I bought the first edition of this book thirteen years ago, and was able to stop smoking easily, despite being very discouraged by many false starts and failures before.

It's well laid-out, addresses the urge to smoke on many different levels. The author has obviously thought through so many facets of smoking addiction and has come up with ingenious strategies for dealing with them all.

This is a real thinking smoker's self-help book.

I stumbled onto Dr. Geisinger's book while looking for something else. I had tried to quit three times before--unsuccessfully. I followed the book's instructions and read a chapter per week/followed the recommendations for four weeks and guess what?!?! I became a non-smoker in one month and have not smoked nor even had the desire to since then! Oh, did I mention--I bought Dr. G's original release of "Kicking It..." back in November of 1980...

An easy to read , step by step guide to end the addiction of cigarette smoking. The author provides the strategies and skills necessary to help you quit as well as a justifiable, scathing indictment of the tobacco industry.

This is the most useful and fun dictionary you will ever own. The illustrations are fantastic and wonderfully detailed, and on every subject imaginable under the sun, from bicycles to spaceships. You will not only find it an invaluable reference for the proper terminology in foreign language, but also in your own native tongue. An invaluable reference work for the multilingual person.

The knowledge in this book seems so basic, but there are a lot of words that I didn't know before. I'm mostly interested in how different the German words are from English. It is lucky for me that the English words are on the top of each list and German at the bottom, so I'm likely to see what I might know before I get down to what is really strange. I don't know Spanish or French either, but they might make some kind of sense to me. Each language has its own index in the back. If you want to see what pages the funny stuff is on, look up "infundibulum" in the English index. On the Reptile page (98), the VENOMOUS SNAKE'S HEAD is called "KOPF EINER GIFTSCHLANGE" in German. That's like calling a secret military tribunal a legal proceding.

17 years ago this book was given to my little sister. She had me read it to her so often I memorized it. When I had my daughter, she gifted it to her. Now all 3 of us have it memorized. My daughter is 13 and we have put the book up to pass onto her daughter.
Susan Meddaugh has poetic rhyming down to an art.
The book teaches responsibility and "It just goes to show, how caring can grow, even when it starts out with your brother." A great read!

My two-year-old adores this book. I have it memorized from reading it to him so many times upon demand. The prose has a nice rhythm and rhyme that carries hints of Dr Seuss without the made-up words. The messages on caring, friendship and siblings are positive also. It should definitely [stay] in print!

My mother began reading Maude and Claude Go Abroad every night to me when I was five years old. Its clever, creative, and hilarious rhyming narrative teaches lessons about sibling rivalry, family, and the importance of friendship. Twenty years later, I still have the entire book memorized! A must-have.

This book is well worth the money! Even if you haven't seen the movie that originated the book, you'll be fascinated by the small world of insects. As a 3D artist, I strongly recommend this book for its rich and wonderful reference pictures of insects at different stages of their lives. The diversity of their shapes, the richness of their textures. After the 2nd or 3rd page, you'll find yourself empathizing with these little creatures!

I saw this book in a bookstore but did not buy as it was overpriced (more than US$38) !!

But, it is indeed a good book showing insects and other creepy crawlies in action and close proxity. How the photographers did it was a remarkable achievement and certainly deserve to win awards for this work.

Anyone who likes good photos of insects will undoubtedly love this book.

Although this book is out of print, Warner Home Video has produced a VCD by the authors of the same title, and it is perhaps even more stunningly beautiful and awesome.

If you can, get the book and the VCD.

This is an excellent Practical Aerospace Stress Analysis textbook!! It is unique in the aerospace structures world and will complement very well the other two standard texts in the industry (Bruhn's Analysis and Design of Flight Vehicle Structures and Niu's Airframe Stress and Sizing). Clearly written with plenty of real life illustrative examples. This book has plenty to offer to both Stress Engineers and Structural Designers either starting out or with several years of experience. Mr. Flabel covers just about all the principal introductory topics. Highly recommended. The author claims in the preface that "the wise and prudent use of this book will provide the competent engineer with many years of practical stress analysis experience". This appears to be a fair statement.

The is probably the best structures book ever written. It has lot of practical information to add to the deeply explained theoritical base. The only other book that comes close to this one is the classic Bruhn's

Excellent, excellent book. Clement does an outstanding job of bringing together quotes by early church fathers. They are organized in a cohesive manner with useful commentary by Clement.

My first reaction as I began to read the book was, "Awesome." I have read some of the early church writings, but generally got bogged down in their style of writing. Clement brings out the richness of what they wrote and said. I am analytical and tend to think a lot, but was blown over by the depth of thought of some of these fathers. They wrote of things I never even considered. They contemplated mysteries and concepts in a way which brings out the shallowness of modern Christian thought.

This is a scholarly work, but which reads more like a devotional. I usually read through a book in a matter of days. However, this one took months. There is such depth that it requires reading a few pages and setting it aside to contemplate what was said. In terms of its value to me, I would place this book second only to the Bible.

Olivier Clement is a French Eastern Orthodox Christian theologian. He has gathered selections from the Church Fathers (and some Mothers too) by topics. Some selections are just a sentence or two, others are several paragraphs. His commentary is brief and usually helpful, but the book's real greatness is that the spirit of the Fathers is so accessible. In this book, everyone can have easy access to the spirituality of ancient Christians. There is deep theology, but also extensive practical sections on prayer and virtues. The English title is inappropriate; the French title is simply "Christian Sources." Clement does not present Christian esotericism but mainstream ancient Christian thought.

I strongly recommend this book to everyone. If you think you are familiar with Christianity, it will open your eyes to the true depths of Christian wisdom. If you are not familiar with Christianity, this book presents the heart of God and the ancient Christian path with clarity, compassion, and wisdom.

This is an astonishing book, read it slowly, it's mind-blowing. With immense skill and sensitivity, Clement weaves together quotations from most of the greatest spiritual writers of all time, many unfamiliar in the West, to explore in a profound way the soul's journey into God.

As a design professional, I thought I was familiar with the streamlined era - wrong! Page after page, I was delighted to discover something new and amazing. You owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book, it's an eye-opening tour filled with fascinating visions.

An incredible array of photos and essays about the days when "Streamlined" was the wave of the future. The focus is on vehicles, but this book is a MUST for any fans of "Art Deco" design or the "Streamline Moderne" era. This beautifully laid out and presented book is a great supplement to the standard works on this era by Meikle and Bush. It is a joy to read and simply to browse...repeatedly!

Beautifully designed testament to the great age of machines. Cool swoopy trains planes cars and airships. Mostly B&W but it doesn't matter. You won't regret it.

Reading interviews with the Dalai Lama is always a pleasure. Easy to read and insightful, you get exactly what the doctor ordered: an accessible, engaging introduction to his perspective. You can't go wrong with this one.

The dialogue format always seems to serve the Dalai Lama well as it allows him to speak at a comfortable speed about topics that would be otherwise just too massive if he had to sit down and write about them. The theme of the conversation is violence in the modern world, its origin, its meaning and its various forms of manifestation. Mr.Carriere does a great job of keeping the conversation lean but muscular. As the man who put together on film the massive _MAHABHARATA_, Carriere is familiar with Indian and Buddhist material and does the reader a very competent service by introducing a page here a page there of explanation and/or a commentary, giving an older Hindu context for the Buddhist concepts. This is not an "interview" but a real conversation that a couple of mutually respecting friends might have. That's what makes the book so lively. Carriere at one point even chides Dalai Lama for simplifying the West as "mechanistic". Moreover, Carriere speaks not only for himself, but perhaps also for a reader who may not find Buddhist cosmology -- in terms of rebirth and reincarnation, etc -- so readily acceptable. It is when such a(n opposing) point of view is introduced that the Dalai Lama shows how and why Buddhism is so pragmatic: BUddhism is not a "religion", he says. It is a science of the Mind. It has no doctrines, no dogmas to maintain AGAINST common sense and empirical data. Buddhism is a science with a vast amount of data concerning the Mind and techiques of access. But as the research was done for over at least 2500 years, in a particular setting, in a particular material, psychological condition, Buddhism would also naturally reflect a set of behaviors and "beliefs" of those local environments in their totality. Thus, what is not applicable in the modern world, Buddhism is ready to modify or jettison. For example, certain manner of representation to illustrate a spiritual and/or social point (instituion of marriage, sexual conduct, various ceremonial protocol, etc). The Dalai Lama even states that Buddhism would relinquish even the notion (which for him and for millions of practicing Buddhists a reality) of rebirth IF science ever gets around to PROVING it conclusively.

The Dalai Lama makes it very clear on several occasions that humanity must now move toward a spiritual life as opposed to a religious life. (They are not the same.)
The problem of over-population is discussed as the main cause of violence done to the earth, thus to the entire cosmos, causing more greed, more desperation.
Carriere is more openly critical of the Vatican's position over this issue. The Dalai Lama agrees that the virtue of the commandment to "go forth and multiply" must be heeded within the context in which we seek guidance from such a religious tradition. And that context is always Here and Now, thus putting into question the sanity of following blindly such a "commandment" today when there are 5 billion of us; when we cannot be guaranteed the required space necessary for a spiritual upgrade. The Dalai Lama is harshly critical of the mindset that only looks at figures; those "experts" who claim the earth can feed as many as 10 billion. Fed? Then what? What will they all do, to what purpose, at what quality of life, he asks.
The previous reviewer mentioned something that I think needs a qualification. No, the Dalai Lama is neither an "atheist" nor a "theist" and the whole issue is very complicated. Buddhism has its own complex pantheon of deities. Traditionally, Buddhism's response to the question concerning the idea of a creator god is one of silence. Buddhism basically says, you will never know by intellectual inquiry. Moreover, even if such a god existed, it doesn't concern you: It won't help YOU to do YOUR homework.
Also, Buddhism has a tradition of turning away anyone who is too enthusiatic to become a Buddhist on a whim. Don't think it's for you just because you're an atheist. Think about it a little longer, son.

After looking at this book, I'm ready to be a buddhist! Seriously. And I'm an atheist! But that's fine, because the Dalai Lama does not believe in a creator either, and it is mentioned in various parts of the book. Excellent reading material.

I really, really loved this book. It's one of the few times that I can recall having laughed out loud at a book. I am a boss now. I am an entrepreneur and I run my own company. I think the main reason that I am a boss today is that I used to work for folks like some of the clowns that are described so clearly in this book. So I guess I have to thank all these bad bosses for helping me get to where I am today.

One thing that I found about the book that was useful to me was that it contains a lot of valuable workplace humor. As a small business man I am also my company's chief salesperson. Humor is a great ice breaker at sales presentations. And I found that this book contained a great wealth of material that could be used in that fashion.

It also helps me within my own office. I once heard that you can learn from anyone, even a fool--if only how not to be one. In that sense this book was a great learning experience. It helps you to think about how others view your actions and reminds you to always think about the position of the people that work for you.

But obviously I don't just think Working for a Loser is only a book for bosses. It's a great book for anyone who participates in the American workplace. I found the stories wonderful, funny and at times profoundly insightful. But more than anything its funny. There is nothing like laughter and this book produces plenty of it. I strongly encourage you to read it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Hats off to Claude Carter. He has really produced a winner.

What a hoot! Anyone who has worked for a loser before can relate to this. The book makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time!!!

Claude Carter's book is really funny. The fact that these are true stories makes it even more humorous. I laughed out loud many times and found myself reading passages to friends and co-workers using an introduction of "Do you believe this?", all the time.

The fact that I am a manager to some also made it valuable as a how no to guide to leadership. This is a unique, funny, and different book that was a fast read. I recommend it highly.

Because Bucky did his best to get his message out to as many people as possible, at a cost of $65 I am sure that this is not the type of book he would wanted to see produced. It seems like the book could have been printed in a less costly form and many of the graphics which were clearly just taken from video eliminated so that the material could be made available to more people at a lower price.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the glorious visual aspect of this book. In my years spent researching my book "Buckminster Fuller's Universe" and working on other Fuller writing, I had not seen some of the photographs and illustrations displayed here. This is a must have for any Bucky fan.

I don't recommend it as an introduction to the ideas and wisdom of Fuller because, as is true with almost all of Fuller's writing, the ideas need to be studied not read over once, and this book does not provide a complete enough picture to be a good study guide. Look to the writing of others for your introduction to Bucky, and look to this book to add to your understanding of a man who is recognized as one of the great thinkers, geniuses and Renaissance men of modern times.

"Your Private Sky" is a must-have book for Bucky fans. In addition to presenting a wealth of new material from Fuller's archives it also arranges and presents Bucky's life and works in an innovative format that emphasizes the larger view of his work and the natural progression of his thoughts. The authors have taken the time to do the re-search which allowed them to see the larger picture. This book about Bucky's life and inventions goes from the whole to the particular.

One example of the thoroughness of "Your Private Sky," compared to earlier books, is in it's handling of the Dymaxion house. This is the first book, I've seen, that includes drawings and photos of the initial square or rectangular 4D home. The authors have done a great job of ransacking Fuller's archives to find just the right images and words to convey the flow or progression of Bucky's designs. This was the first time I grasped how the work on the Dymaxion home designs was related to the latter invention of the Geodesic dome.

Most of the never-before-published photos, drawings and writings in "Your Private Sky" were found in Bucky's Chronofile, the 300-foot long series of personal history files that Bucky started collecting in 1915. Except for the short introduction and chronology at the beginning of the book, all the material in this 522 page book consists of items selected from Bucky's Chronofile. The words are selections from Bucky's writings.

The graphic design, printing and binding of "Your Private Sky" compliment the quality of its contents. The superior binding permits the pages to lie flat so you can view the hundreds of full bleed photographs including many two page spreads. The book's visual organization is excellent especially considering the variety of items and styles that had to be accommodated. My minor criticisms are that I would have liked to see more indexing and source information and a few less spelling and translation errors in this book.

A superb book; it's well organized, packed with never before seen photos and drawings, thoughtfully arranged and edited, and printed and bound using first class materials and methods.

I was looking forward to receivinging this book .........The newly published book was just what I expected. It contains Bucky's whole life history and his various ideas that arised during his life such as the famous geodesic dome, dymaxion products, tensegrity, world game and so on. Many are what I have not obtained so far in detail from other literatures already published. So they are extremely usefull and fun to me. The most important thing that I could get from the book is that I could feel strong power to live the daily life again with fresh dreams.
