Readable native american lore
Though this book was first published in 1953, the stories and legends enclosed in Ms. Clark's book are interesting in 1999. I was surprized to find a story and lore concerning a local rock painting site. Each of the stories are indentified by the tribe or nation they come from. This book is a must for anyone interested in Native American lore or legends.

Some of America's finest poetry!
If you love poetry, you will love this book and it's author. I have had this book for almost 30 years now and never tire of reading it's poetry. Mrs. Wilcox's work has such a beautiful flow. Each poem instills a sense of goodness about the world around us. This book is also great for school poetry projects because just about every facet of life is portrayed.

Lovely book
There are so few books today (even for kids) that are about unabashed joy, rather than scary things. This is a delightful, refreshing story with suitably adorable illustrations. I want to buy it for all the young children (and even some of the adults) I know!

Miss Ella
Published in Hardcover by Vantage Press (1994)
Author: Terry Franklin Culpepper
Amazon base price: $12.95
Used price: $29.32
Average review score:

A compelling and poignant story of one woman's struggle.
Once I started "Miss Ella", I could not put it down. Culpepper transports his readers back to a different place and time--the early 20th century South, as seen through the struggles and triumphs of his own grandmother, a widowed black mother of 14 (yes, 14!) kids. The book runs the gamut of emotions, from funny to tragic, and is ultimately an uplifting tale of survival in the face of adversity. I think that many readers will connect with this book because the story of "Miss Ella" is really a story that could, and probably does mirror their own family history in some way. Though slimmer in scope and length, "Miss Ella" seems to be a personal "Roots"-like tale for its author--and therefore for readers too. A must read.

Tailored to students in business and management.
As someone who works privately with dissertation students, I recommend this book. When students in the business and management contact me, I recommend that they use this book as reference. The authors anticipate and answer many of the questions that students have about dissertations in business and management.

Slow moving
This book takes eight chapters to get into the fire
itself. It has a large amount of information about the
Theater Trust organization that is not necessary to the
story.

You Can Feel the Heat and Sorrow Between the Covers
Mr. Hatch has written a taunt true story of grim reality. Like the Titanic, The Hidenberg, The Coconut Grove and other assorted and avoidable human disasters, the reader knows the ending before opening the book. But like all good reporters - and Mr. Hatch is first, last and always a well seasoned newsman - it is how he stacks the facts that counts. In Tinder Box it is not 'what' happens, as much as 'how' and 'why,' and finally, sadly, who pays the price. In today's era of litigation, much is made of the lawyer-sharks; but before their arrival, the victims of these man-made tragedies were like guppies swimming with piranhas. Only the victims paid. Mr. Hatch is never brutal, but neither does he turn aside from the grim facets of those ghastly events of that day in in late 1903,when 600 victims, many of them women and children, burned to death in an "absolutely fireproof" building. It is a great read, fast paced and gripping.
