Around 75 percent of all dogs entering animal shelters in the U.S. are mixed-breed dogs. Sadly, one to two million of these mixed-breeds are euthanized each year. If you are thinking about adopting a shelter dog, CAPS strongly encourages you to give a home to a needy mutt. If you think you can't do without a purebred, read Unforgettable Mutts first. Karen Derrico's delightful book will convince you to change your mind.

However, Girlfriends Forever, was a let down to me. I felt that this book was rife with New Age philosophies and Women First/feminist ideals, which as a Christian, just didn't sit right with me. I am disappointed that I paid money for this book and only keep it because my copy is personalized and autographed. (Susan Branch is a lovely woman, both inside and out, I was just disappointed with this work.)
As far as the recipes go, there isn't anything appealing in this book. That was a big surprise, too, since I use her other cookbooks on a daily basis. Maybe this one is just too healty for me-- and I live in Southern California!!
On the plus side, the artwork is wonderful, as usual and there are some good ideas regarding decorating and organizing. I particularly liked her meal planning ideas. But, the overall tone of the book was a disappointment to me.

On a sheer storytelling level, the writing is straight forward and profoundly compelling, with great insight into the human heart. This true story has more twists and turns than most bestselling novels, the pacing is just right, and the characters are so well drawn you would think they're in the room with you. If this book had been published as a hardcover first, I have no doubt it would have received the attention it deserves, placing it in the top echelon of True Crime.
The book jacket doesn't mention one of the most important parts of the case, which is the 23-years of stalking that Susan endured while searching for her daughter. Yeah, they catch the guy, finally, but you won't believe who it is, and I'm not going to tell you! The trial is fantastically portrayed, and the prosecutors and their strategy are very well drawn. I love legal thrillers, and this beat most of the ones I've read before.
All in all, Without A Trace is a book that kept me reading from page 1 to the end, hardly able to put it down. It's also a cautionary tale that every parent and teenager should read.
I had seen this story in a documentary on A&E and on 20/20, and thought I knew a lot about it, but the book tells you so much more, and then you find out that a lot you saw in the documentary isn't even quite right. There is also a lot of important information that the authors found after the documentary had already come out.
My last word on this is you gotta read it to believe it!

Although Wendy seems a little prim, she is sweet and motherly. John was offhand and brave, Michael was tiny and believing. My favourite character was, however, Peter. The author really outdid himself on this one. Peter's innocent cockiness and love for dangerous adventures endeared him to me at once. He still has all his first teeth, and his first laugh - what more could we ask of him? His frightful happiness in danger reminds me of my seven-year-old self.
The book retains a magical quality right up to the last page. The midnight scene where Peter coaxes them out of the window has always stood out in my mind; there is a kind of magic in an ever-young boy, small and innocently cocky and always up to some mischief. The ending of the book is very sad, for only those who are gay and young and light-hearted can fly.
Definitely a book worth reading. Adults, trust me on this one: you might think you're too old to read this book, but once you do you'll find that a piece of Neverland still resides in your heart.
