The best for kids
I've never come across a better book to get kids going on learning to cook... My son made us a scrumptious meal the first night he had the book! I recommend highly.

My nephews loved this cookbook!!!!!
I bought this for my young nephew for his birthday and it made him feel so grown up!! With my sister's help all three of her kids were able to easily have lots of fun making these recipes that are especially designed with kids in mind - things kids love to eat, lots of pictures, easy to follow. The kids were so eager to make dinner for the whole family!

One of the better Children's Cookbooks
This is one of the better Children's Cookbooks out there. This one reminds me of the old Betty Crocker style children's cookbooks that I grew up with. This book has a nice section on tools of the kitchen, preperation methods all fully loaded with pictures. The recipes can be prepared easily, and best of all they taste really great. The book has a wide variety of recipes too, some easy things, and some more advanced recipes so that children of all ages will be able to enjoy this one.

Couldn't put it down
WOW! What a read! This is an important story told beautifully. Some of the narrative is lyrical. Other parts will chill you to the bone. It is a story that will stick with me for a long, long time. Told from the point of view of a young girl in 1951 Florida, it takes the reader into the civil rights movement with heartbreaking intimacy. Compared, on the cover, to To Kill a Mockingbird (something that's almost inevitable when the story deals with a pre-pubescent narrator talking about racism in the South), I found it a "different bird" altogether. It stands on its own as a fine piece of literature. Book discussion groups, take note! And all others simply looking for a book that will provoke thought and feeling - look no further.

Deja Vu
I don't see the rating that I put on this book for the last time so maybe I didn't rate it at all. Why? I don't know. This book was one of the most excellent and intriguing books I've ever read in my life. It was so interesting to hear about a white person's perspective on the KKK and the plot was fabulous. Although I wish she wouldn't have had reason to write this story, I really did appreciate it. Thanks again!

a practice in humiliation
Several of the reviews outline the plot...it is the powerful feeling and emotion that can be shared with the characters. I believe it is truly a lesson in the feeling of humiliation and shame for having this be a piece of our history. The inability to relate comes with upbringing and the joy that you cannot relate to the KKK. It is suprising how our author weaves this tension and builds and builds. You really want some sort of resolution to spare pain for the family and the reader. WOW.

Incredibly uplifting!!!
I've had this book for several months now and remains to be an excellent source to remind me of who I really am. When I am struggling with negative emotions, I turn to this book and reread the essays. It has never failed to make me feel better. By reading this book, it helps me connect to my spirit which in turn uplifts me. Susan Taylor has some wonderful insights and every time I reread any of the essays, I gain something new. I have recommended her books to so many friends and they love her.

LIFE CHANGING
This book CHANGED MY LIFE. I came across this book at a very difficult time in my life. There is such compassion in her words, that can only come from one who has been in the "valley". She takes you through a spiritual guide, a reevaluation of life, and help you to truly value the lessons in the adversities that we face in life. This book is POWERFUL AND SPIRITUALLY UPLIFTING. A revelation!

A GREAT TEXT BOOK
This book is so uplifting! I bought it a year ago and I highlighted paragraphs throughout the book, so when I need a little inspiration, I just pull out my book and thumb through. I've read this book twice in it's entirety and dozens of times I've read the highlighted parts. I wish Susan would write more.

This Book Is The Real Deal
If there's anything worse than the constant, grinding pain of an intractable marital problem, it's the glib pseudo-analysis of bestselling advice experts -- often more annoying, less qualified and just plain stupider than any offending spouse, and they seem to wind up divorced, discredited and humiliated with even greater frequency. But LOVING IN FLOW is surprisingly, even powerfully, convincing on a wide variety of painful and frightening (and sometimes insoluble) relationship issues. And author Susan Perry isn't just a qualified psych PhD with (thank God) may years' experience researching and writing about long-term couples. She also has a literary gift (her well-scrutinized husband is a poet) and a meticulous, almost Proustian frankness about relationships that she's actually observed, advised, and been in herself. You might not want to know how much conscious work a successful long-term relationship actually needs, or how much pain and suffering and loser behavior it frequently has to accommodate ... but this book is uniquely credible on the subject, and one of the few I'd recommend to casual readers just for the information.

There is something for everyone in this book!
I was more interested in Dr. Perry's book, "Writing in Flow" and I primarily read this book to see and experience her writing. I didn't think I'd become engrossed in it but I did. I've had a lot of experience leading couples workshops and doing clearings on various relationship issues. I was sure there would be nothing in this book for me, but I was wrong. I walked away with the realization that I was taking my husband's many kindnesses and on-going support of me for granted and neglecting to acknowledge him on a regular basis -- and was very surprised to make that discovery. My husband doesn't know I just read a fantastic book, but he definitely knows he is tops on my list and that I appreciate him. What an amazing gift to take from Dr. Perry's thoughtful, honest, and straight-forward book. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Read this before you see a therapist.
Perry weaves the words of relationship experts with real-life couples to offer us a book that is highly readable, enjoyable, and well worth the money it can save you in therapy fees. Perry speaks candidly about her own relationship path and addresses universal relationship concerns like conflict, communication, and infidelity. Reading Loving in Flow is like sitting down with a friend and talking about relationships - it is honest, validating, and good for your soul.

Entertaining for kids AND adults!
I was lucky enough to come across this book while searching for a birthday gift for a little friend of mine. I was intrigued by the title, picked it up, and then had to read the ENTIRE thing. What a fabulous book!

The words are clearly printed on a white background, the pictures are large and colorful, and the humor in what Martha says will keep readers of all ages entertained.

Not only does the story deal with standing up for what you need, but I found that I could use this in my practice as a speech-language pathologist. Martha, when she eats alphabet soup, gains the ability to speak because all the letters go into her brain instead of to her stomach. But when some letters are left out, she has trouble communicating. When she gets all her letters, she can communicate just fine. A lesson! Wow!

I've read a lot of children's books, and this is a gem. Don't miss it.

Martha Blah Blah
Martha Blah Blah is about a dog who can speak when she eats alphabet soup. With her new-found language, Martha has adventures, helps people and animals and learns new things. She does have a dilemma, but she overcomes it to save the day. The illustrations in this book enhance the story. The illustrator uses large watercolor images that are humorous and does a good job of showing what is going on in the story. The author uses words that make the book easy to understand and employs a large font so that they are easy to read. The author also includes footnotes in some parts of the book, which can draw the attention away from the illustrations to the footnotes. Without the footnotes, however, one would not be able to decipher what Martha is saying when she loses her voice. Even though the footnotes draw attention away from the illustrations one can have fun trying and decipher what Martha is saying and then the answer is at the bottom of the page. In a small way, the footnotes make one think while reading the book. I believe that this book is entertaining and sparks the imagination. Like most children' books, it has a happy ending, which makes the story even more likable. Overall, I think that Martha Blah Blah is an excellent children's book that deserves to be read.

Laugh out loud wonderful
I read this book to my nephew, not knowing how completely hysterical the Martha series is.

The illustrations, including the very funny side dialogues, is straight-forward and not at all confusing. You can read the book to smaller children without the side dialogue, and they'll still understand it. Older kids can read the dialogue out loud and be just as entertained.

The story isn't scary, and does give a few good but not preachy lessons: avoid being greedy, don't abuse the telephone (there's a great picture of Martha yakking away on the telephone and getting reprimanded), and that being understood when you speak is very important.

Lots of fun, quick little story, ideal for bedtime. I highly recommend it.

Uneven, but worth reading
The concept rocks: write stories inspired by TV and movie heroes, but don't do it directly.

Much of the writing is equally good: obviously all these authors are excellent writers.

Some of the stories were compelling, some were mildly entertaining. None were awful.

However, this book is uneven. I have a hard time imagining that any one person would love all these stories. Some of the stories suffer from being so short, and others are just not that interesting.

I loved Moon Over Miranda and Mary Jo Putney's reworking of the King Arthur tale.

Five stars for concept and two of the stories. The other stories were all 3-star and 4-star in quality, so I'm averaging it all out to be four stars.

Fantastic! Done the way romance SHOULD be done!
Get a copy of this anthology while you still can. You will NOT be a bit disappointed. Ten novellas from talented authors whose stories are inspired by TV and Movie heroes. What a kick! Regency, Western, Contemporary, Futuristic... They're all very well represented here. Stories and characters that will make you smile for days to come. Don't be put off by the mix of genres. This confirms that when written well, romance stories are timeless.

Sure to please the cravings of any reader of romance
"In Our Dreams" is a unique collection of stories. While the authors use television/movie heroes as inspiration, they have managed to build on those images and make them uniquely their own. From Mary Jo Putney's twist on Arthurian legend to Courtney Henkes tongue-in-cheek take on mythic fantasy, I found myself eagerly turning the pages. This was a wonderful read with something to feed the romantic cravings of any reader. Whether your tastes run toward rugged Old West types or the cool elegance of the English Regency, there is something here for you.

The Madness of a Seduced Woman
Published in Paperback by Plume (1991)
Author: Susan Fromberg Schaeffer
Amazon base price: $14.95
Average review score:

The BEST novel on the planet!
Schaeffer is the most poetic and influential writer today! This is simply an amazing novel - It literally sent me back to college to major in literature- the book is that profoundly amazing. To read Schaeffer's words is the experience of a lifetime. Do yourself a favor and read this novel; pass it on to a friend, then purchase every book she ever wrote, quit work, and dive into great writing!

This book is fantastic!
WOW - what a title, and what a book ! This book is fantastic! Here you will see, feel and smell the taste of obsessive love and the destruction it can bring. READ the book and enjoy! It is similar in toning to Thomas Hardy's best works :)

love equals madness
when that love doesn't turn out to be quite what you had in mind... I hope the male readers aren't put off by the title (because this novel is for both sexes.) I guarantee you both men and women will be able to relate (if you have ever been burned by love). The author goes for psychological insights and the book will stay with you for years for this reason. A sad and incredible tale, reads like non-fiction torn from today's headlines. What a motion picture this would make, on second thought, maybe Hollywood ought to keep away, as they, more than likely, would ruin it. Five stars easy. The damn thing left me in tears. Not an easy thing for a straight male to admit, not to mention it also helped me get over a bad love affair. If you've loved and lost you know that's something that can easily push you over the edge. If you happen to be going through something like that at the moment, I suggest you read the book and it just might keep you from doing anything stupid.

ModCon: The Secret World Of Extreme Body Modification
Published in Paperback by BMEbooks (18 March, 2002)
Author: Shannon Larratt
Amazon base price: $29.99
Average review score:

A truly enlightening read......
I may also be a bit biased in my review, as seeing I am also in the book. While I will admit, the book couldn't totally capture the essence of the event, that is only because it truly is something you have to be physically there for to truly appreciate.
If it were not for the book Modern primitives, I am sure some of those attending the first even, may have never even known there were others out there with similar interest and beliefs. I feel certain that in a few years people will be saying the same about this book.
I am sure some people will buy this book purely for the shock value, but if you do that, you are truly missing the point. This book let's you into many people's lives in a way that in some cases, even there immediate families are unaware of. Some of the modifications seen in here will always be controversial, other such as subdermal implants, may very well slip there way into more normal society, much as the way tongue piercings have grown enormously common.
If you are interested in "extreme" body modification, you owe it to yourself to pick up this book, open up your mind and read it from cover to cover. You may find out some of these "freaks" are not as unlike yourself as you might expect.

Modify your mind
This book is peep into the world of extreme body modification. It goes well beyond tattooing and piercing that most people are familiar with and provides (plenty of) photos, and interviews with the people who practice these forms of modification (implants for exaple).
The book really is fascinating. There are mods that you may have heard of, and thought why would anyone do that? Well the interviews in this book give and insight into the reasons behind the mods. And anyone who thinks that body modification is a symptom of a sick mind, could do a lot lot worse than read the exceptionally well easoned arguments for why these people do what tehy do to their bodies.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again, this is a fascinating book that you will genuinely find hard to put down.

If you have the courage, take a walk on this extreme edge
If you've read the Re/Search volume MODERN PRIMITIVES and ever wondered where everyone was going to go from there, this is the book. If you think everyone now has a tattoo or a piercing, ask yourself how many people do you know with a branding or cutting? Do any of your friends have implants? Do you think your body might be improved by amputation? This is area of the world where MODCON takes the reader.

ModCon, a private convention/gathering of extreme body art enthusiasts and artists, is documented in this volume of interviews and pictures, with some material coming from the author's private collection. You will see implants, surgical alterations and every form of permanent skin art, all modifications and changes made at the wishes of the wearer. The pictures are highly-detailed, full-color and sometimes disturbingly graphic in their medical nature.

As a person who has collected body art for almost twenty years now, I have seen a lot of unique people. I bought this book because it went beyond anything I have seen before. The interviews reveal an incredible array of focus and desire when it comes to why everyone is doing these things, as well as varying, and sometimes scary, degrees of will to carry out the mental vision for the physical body. If you want a book that will confront you with questions and shake up your perceptions about humans and how they view and use their bodies, this is one of the ones. Collectors of "the extreme" should also take note.
