A True Master
Author Charles Kipp has earned the title of Master for this truly magnificent book. With a mix of western culture, astrology, science and magick, you get an eye opening experience of pure ecstasy.

This certainly is not a step by step how-to, new age astrology guide. This is a complete book of revelations in the field of astrology that practitioners of the science itself need to experience. Leave behind all you thought you knew. Open the first page and read the introduction by Robert Anton Wilson. Then read the first page from Charles Kipp. You won't be able to put down this book once you start.

Master in his own right, Robert Anton Wilson introduces the book with his own personal experience while studying Crowley. You can see how Wilson has remained objective and open minded in his 28 years of reading and researching a man who, to this day, remains an enigmatic icon. His respect for Crowley shows clearly through the lines as he tries to explain not only who Crowley was, but why he lived his life the way he did. Although no one will ever know for sure Crowley's mindset, Wilson gives an award winning performance in presenting a fresh, very believable point of view.

Following this marvelous introduction isn't easy, but Charles Kipp is equal to the task as he takes you on an enlightened journey through astrology in a way you have never traveled before. Using Aleister Crowley as a test subject for his topic is, in a word, brilliant! Kipp calls on 30 years experience as student, practitioner and teacher of astrology to delve deeply into Crowley's life through his own writings. Intertwining them with Astrology not only makes for easy comprehension but sheer enjoyment!

Never before has such an in-depth book been written to keep the reader aware of each step; it's like taking several courses simultaneously. Kipp expands your horizons with the experience and proves that he really is the new master on the block!

HYPNOTIC
For one who was reared on a steady diet of propaganda which taught that astrology was well-represented by the colorful charts, graphs, and horoscopes on the newsstand rags at the local grocery store, I had my biases. A certain cynicism usually kicked in and got in the way of my even picking up a book with the word "Astrology" in its title.

Silly Me.

Something profound drew me to this book and I have been thankful ever since. This highly impressive work is a benchmark for what makes for truly great reading, in my opinion. A nice coalescence between hard core science and then fanciful, poetic musings. To remain so open-minded while maintaining a well-grounded basis really gives Mr. Kipp an edge on others who have attempted similarly lofty tasks. Kipp elegantly pulls together a symphony of ideas.

Tying together such disparate topics as mysticism, astrology, psychoanalysis, history, and science - no simple task - is performed by Mr. Kipp with unique scholarship, and impeccable flair.

The rascal Aleister Crowley is rendered very human and great sympathy is aroused by Kipp's amusing characterization of Crowley's strange and at times brutal upbringing. We are compelled to understand the psychology and mythology inherent in Crowley's (and our own) universe.

Ultimately, we are brought full circle to a deep insight of the theoretical perspectives - including both critical and expansive views - necessary to establish a sense of "wholeness."

This reader was left amazed at the beauty of the language and the harmonious interplay of really cool, strange subjects.

My amazement at the fact that someone could come up with the idea for this book was superseded by the fact that the idea was so powerfully executed.

Bring us another one, Master Kipp.

The Big War
Like all Myrer's books, an excellent literary adventure. But, be sure to have a dictionary near by, as nearly every page a new, unfamiliar word pops up! If you like war stories and interesting characters, as well as good writing, you'll like this book.

Absolutely perfect, real, sad and true.
Myrer's "Big War" is a true-color picture of the cruelty and sorrow which can be brought only by war. Perfectly written, very impressive and worth reading.

Second part of an important book over Aztecs' civilisation
Here is the last part of Aztecs' History in CHIMALPAHIN's compiling. It's followed by a precious kind of calendar by CHIMALPAHIN himself. A prime material to understand Aztecs' meaning of life. I'm waiting for the 4 other books of this exceptional collection of indigenous testimonies (Please excuse my bad English: I'm an usual French writer)

An important book over Aztecs' civilization
There are many "Codices" about MesoAmerica. This one is presented as a translate of primitive nahuatl compiling of Aztecs' History. An important contribution to Mexican History. The total collection counts 6 books; two are now available.

Terrific!
This book is an insightful, intelligent view into the history of a people in continual state of exile. It transcends their history from before the American Revolution (and the Cuban contributions to it) to modern day tussles with Castro's regime. I highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to broaden their knowledge of a culturally diverse and colorful people who have contributed much to the United States and the world. A "Must Read" in my opinion!

Moving and informative
"Cubans in America" is a book detailing the history, culture, and character of the Cuban people and their contributions to American life in all aspects, from politics to entertainment. It's a book which inspired in me a great appreciation for the United States, how this land is truly a melting pot, with a detailed look at how this particular group of people have influenced and contributed to its culture. "Cubans in America" also chronicles the history of Cuba, the people who have had the most effect on her destiny, from colonial times to the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the modern day exile movements, including the Elián González saga. Most enjoyable in the book are also all of the photo captions and facts about famous Cuban Americans, such as actor Desi Arnaz and New York Yankees pitcher Orlando Hernández. A terrific book that shows one of the many origins of what is the fabric of the United States while providing an excellent history of our Caribbean neighbours.

Loved it!!!!!!!
I loved every minute of this book!!! The book is fun, and a good change from the serious subjects of the teenage world. The main character, C.C. has a funny personality, and reminds me of a lot of my friends. Cluck is "delicious" as Grace says, and Natalie is the queen of clothes. All the characters remind me of real life people, and the book was realistic in a crazy way. I'm gonna read more of the author's works. I just hope they halfway resemble this book!

An Exceptional Story
I read about this book in a review in seventh grade and wanted to read it so badly, my mom and I searched libraries everywhere! We finally got it through an inter-library loan from Vancouver, Canada. As soon as I picked up the book, I knew all of our hard work was worth it. I was wrapped up in the story of beautiful C. C. I read the story in two hours flat; not because it was easy. Just because I couldn't put it down. Pre-teens and teenage girls everywhere--this is the book. If you own one book in all of your teenage years, make it this one. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

The politic of pollution
Generally, this book decribes the politic of environmental in East Java. These authors analyzed development of pollution case in East Java since 1970s, and how local government, as well as local people, had responded it. Pollution, especially water polllution in Surabaya River, became a big issue in East Java since 1970s. The reason is clear. Surabaya river is the main resource for drinking water for Surabayan inhabitants. But, although the pollution was damaged the quality of this water in Surabaya river, but local government did not prohibit state's water department to sell the water. In this context, local government and private sectors tried to camouflage about the damaged condition of Surabaya river. This camoflauge was political trick of third world state. The valued of this book is in this point. And, it is very important book for policy makers, environmentalist as well as students and tourist. From this book, we could learn how to handle the problem, not only in East Java or Indonesia, but also in others countries...

The Cost of Development
This is the excellent book that I've ever read. Based on East Java field research, these authors explained the impact of development in Indonesia "New Order". In the high rate of growth, there was an impact, which could be burden of the future generation of Indonesia, on environmental. The desctruction of enviromental in East Java could impact on the healthy condition of child and babies in East Java generally. In addition, these authors explained also who struggle of common people to improve quality of their environmental. Unfortunately, their struggle was ignored by central government. This is the most important book for students, policy makers and common people to study the impact of industrialization in third world countries such as Indonesia.

roshi lives on
I studied with Maezumi Roshi from the late Sixties through the Seventies. Reading this book, I felt his presence. His language, inflections, and idiom shine through unhampered; this is a model of editorial sensitivity to the actual voice of a great teacher, and conveys his teaching beautifully.

An excellent addition to the Zen Cannon
This work is among those honorable books on Zen Buddhism which try to capture the "living" word of a Zen teacher. Though this is ultimately impossible, the attempt here is no less than inspiring, and if it were ever to be done, this would be very close.

This is one of the first books where the awkwardness of the language actually makes it better. One gets a sense of the teachers persona and personal voice. From a teaching point of view, it also reminds us how the unpolished quality of a thing can make it even more beautiful.

Lastly, perhaps this may seem trivial, its nice compact size makes it an excellent companion for any wandering traveller looking for pocketsize inspiration. Sometimes it is difficult to bring along the 400 page Heikiganroku on a long trip. This however, offers an endless wealth of wisdom which can fit in most any pocket.

Many thanks to the publisher, and to Amazon for allowing an obcure but important work like this to be offered. Maezumi's teaching resounds.

You won't get the blues from buying this book
I have the hard-to-find first edition of Gérard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia Of The Blues, the one printed in 1996. It is worth finding if you can. If not, this edition (which I am trying to decide whether to buy or not) may well be as good or better than the first. The first edition has over 500 pages, but fewer photos I think. Gérard Herzhaft's Encyclopedia Of The Blues is the most accurate, in-depth, and comprehensive collection of Blues musician information I have been able to find anywhere in the past 6 years of being an active Blues fan. I wish Gérard would know how much his great work is appreciated by all of us Blues music fans in the USA and the world. Thank you Gérard.

Solid, comprehensive survey of major blues artists in all fi
I write as a blues fan of forty years standing in order to assure folks that this French fellow knows his stuff. When I first heard about this Encyclopedia 8 years ago, I was concerned that it would be another effete European effort to convince Americans that they have no taste.

Au contraire! This is the first survey-type of blues review which does justice to disparate blues streams such as blues shouters (barely touched on in Cohn's book) and boogie woogie, as well as Delta blues and obscure East Texas singers of the Twenties.

The Encyclopedia is well-organized, with fine summary essays on various blues streams so that the reader can follow developments on different fronts without having to turn back and forth between essays on individuals. There is a generous serving of individual biographical sketches as well, and Gerard does us the favor of pointing out when certain blues artists are following in the footsteps of others.

He also does a good job of including glancing references to less well-known blues artists who are worth investigating later in yours blues journey.

All in all an excellent reference work with plenty to interest the casual blues fan.
