An Excellent introduction to Schoenberg, Berg & Webern
I first came across this book years ago at Connecticut College, and was impressed enough by it that I found my own copy years later. This book is an excellent technical introduction to the music of Schoenberg, Berg and Webern, and the author places these composers in the proper historical context by including descriptive chapters on other musical trends in the early-mid 20th century (such as Hindemith and Weill). The introduction alone is an amazingly insightful overview of the history of classical music with a few surprise observations.

Southern Gentleman Reading Russian Literature from the Heart
I have always resonated to Russian literature, and there is no better story teller than Chekov and no better story reader than Mr. Charlton Griffin. His dramatization of these timeless stories brings them to the listener with the richness that must have been intended by Chekhov. Mr. Griffin illucidates the stories and gives life to Chekhov's rich brilliance beyond what one might experience reading the stories on his own. If you like first rate literature of timeless high quality in an audio format, this selection is for you. Don't miss it.

Hidden Treasure
I found Chekov's book on the last day of my university library clearance sale. It was hidden in a bin cluttered with countless, unremarkable books. After buying it for 10 cents I opened the cover and cracked the frail binding. The copy was over 30 years old.

I became engrossed in the stories and had trouble putting it down (and during final test week!)Chekov was one of the great short story writers of any country at any time.

I felt horrible at the end. I bought this book -worth unspoken amounts- for a dime. I was a thief. Unfortunately sending a check to his family or giving it back to the library (they don't want it) was impossible. So as repayment the only thing I can do is encourage others to pick up this jewel.

Fun, Informative, and Well-Designed Courses
I don't think you really can learn a foreign language on your own. But as far as these self-studying tools are concerned, Assimil's Spanish with Ease shows that they have put in the thought and effort to design the courses. It is well worth the extra money (compared to other self-taught Spanish books.)

Let me first tell you what this is not. It's not a phrase book for tourists and is not a comprehensive Spanish grammar course, and it doesn't give you a free dictionary. And you need to sit down and read the book to learn (I simply don't buy the "All-Audio" model by Living Learning.) But if you are serious about learning Spanish on your own (i.e. actually going through all the lessons), Assimil is a very effective tool.

For example, the book is printed in Spanish on odd-numbered pages and corresponding English on even-numbered pages so that people could refrain from "cheating" by looking up the English. The lessons are mostly interesting dialogues that could arise in daily life. It provides informative footnotes that explain idiomatic usages. It gives a pretty detailed grammatical appendix (including some irregular verbs) and variations of regional usages in a dozen Spanish-speaking countries. It also have very fun cartoons to go with the lessons. The accented syllables are boldfaced.

A book worth reading that will give insight on chicanos.
When i opened up the book I had zero expectations because i had never heard of this author. As I started reading I found myself laughing out loud. I nervously looked around to check if anyone was around. Its that kind of book. As a mexican I found I had alot of things in common with many parts of this book. I feel very strongly that all latinos will be able to relate with some or most of this book's content. I really recommend this book to everyone. If you are not a latino or chicano you will be able to enjoy a slice of my culture as well as the culture of chicanos. I would frequently show tidbits of the book to my friends. This book has the right mixture of humor, inside jokes, facts, and deals with some serious issues. A book to be read more than once.

The beginnings of a master writer . . .
I didn't know Chekov was considered a master of the short story until I read Janet Malcolm's pieces about him in The New Yorker. So I started with this book, which contains some of his earliest stories. Each story is amazing and in them you can see him progressing into his own unique style. This is a great book to start with if you're reading Chekov for the first time.

One of the Great Authors
Anton Chekhov is a brilliant writer! I am a fan of short stories and his are exceptionally good. I am re-reading "The Lady with the Pet Dog" right now because I plan to write a paper on it for my Writing class. I love how Chekhov creates his characters (such as Dmitry in "The Lady with.."). In this particular story, he makes Dmitry a detestable and seemingly typical male, but by the end of the story, the readers can't help but feel for Dmitry Dmitrich. This is part of Chekhov's genius.

A detailed book about how to organise special events
This book provides a range of useful techniques for those involved in organising special events, and is also useful for students. The book is in two sections, the first section is about the events business, the second, larger section, is about how to organise events.

The book has many features to help the reader prepare their own event, with useful forms for the beginner, lots of charts and diagrams, and a range of case studies from many countries.

The book contains helpful suggestions from real life events, especially from festivals, carnivals and tourism events. The book is easy to read, with clear language. The case studies give web addresses so the reader can look for more information on the net related to them.

The most useful thing about the book is that it is a good book for organisers and managers to have on their shelf.
