Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul
Have you ever read a book that actually inspired you to contribute to the world..........to make a change? This book will do that. The authors have put together a tool for transformation..........helping others brings more love to everyone.

Helping to Revive Our Hope
Sheltered by the walls of academia, I had forgotten that the writing process itself is a mantra of social change, that our awakenings lead to a more united world. Reading the poignant and inspirational stories submitted to Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul reminded me of the many people who give selflessly of themselves, who teach us that heroes are everywhere we cast our eyes.

Janet I. Buck, Ph.D.

Inspirations and Surprises
Think of your image of "volunteer." Now disregard it and check out "Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul." Volunteer authors describe their experiences volunteering, and the variety and creativity of their work is truly amazing and inspiring. I loved the variety of volunteer stories in this book. It made me realize that if I don't have a lot of time or there's no big disaster around at the moment, there are zillions of ways that I can contribute to my community and the world, so I'm dumping my guilt and getting creative. . . . A big thank you to this great crew of authors and editors!!

Excellent for all(even 25 year olds)!!!
I originally bought this book for some older friends of mine. I ended up reading it all the way through before giving it to them. The stories touched all of my emotions and reminded me of my wonderful grandparents as well(my grandparents raised my sisters and I thru much of our childhood). This is a great book for anyone and everyone-don't pass it up.

My First Chicken Soup book that I have read, and this was simply excellent. I laughed, cried, and it brought back all my childhood memories.

I purchased this book as a gift for each of my four sisters, as well as one for myself. The stories are so perfectly suited to the relationship between sisters -- good, bad, and ugly! In many stories we found ourselves.

Fantastic, humerous, and it's only 20 years old
No, I wasn't around to see Blondie in their prime, primarily because I wasn't born yet. But I could practically SMELL the Bowery and CBGBs while reading "Making Tracks: The Rise of Blondie". For some reason unknown to me, I found it in my school's library. The photos and Harry's narrative make it thoroughly enjoyable. It was impossible to put down. Are these expressions overused and usually used as inaccurate embellishment? Of course they are. But in this case, they are the abosolute truth. BUY THIS BOOK! BLONDIE4FR!

Fabulous book about a Fabulous band
This book traces the "rise of Blondie" from the early days when the group started, right up until the split. Many fabulous pictures, writings and lots of information. Looking forward to the new Biography coming soon and Keep on rocking Blondie!

A Great Blondie Book
Reading the book "Making Tracks", I found it very interesting and informative. Reading how Deborah and the boys had a rocky gritty start and really had to persevere in New York to make it big was entertaining. I liked the part where they had to convince people they were a rock 'n roll band but still wanted to play a disco song in "Heart of Glass." They found many of their followers did not get the irony. Nor the media also, as they thought Blondie was a punk band, a radical and rebellious term that held them back. Yet they broke out and made it to the big time, with more than their fifteen minutes of fame. Making Tracks is a book that lets you in on the inside of the record business. When I read that Blondie was paid a weekly salary, I thought this was kind of odd, even successful artists can be treated as simply lowly employees of a big corporation, just like anyone. And be just as powerless to change things. The book states how the movie scripts Blondie received were shockingly horrid. One movie script was about Harry in a band, and has a manager who kills a fan for publicity. Other scripts draw her as a nymphomaniac. So obviously they turned them all down. Too bad no independent film producer was found to make a good movie for the band. Rock 'n roll stars are big these days and still comeback because it seems the culture has unfinished business with them. There seems to be something about Blondie, there is of course, there is something behind the music we need to find out. Making Tracks is a book worth reading for those interested in music and the business of music. And of course the great band Blondie and the great singer Deborah Harry.

My new favorite
Wonderful stories, not only feel good stories, but some actual miracles! I cried, I smiled. I read this book one or two at a time at bedtime. The short stories would be nice to read at the table on Shabbat. I agree with another reviewer, you don't have to be Jewish to enjoy this book!

When you finish, you will read it again.
I laughed, I cried, I remembered. This is a great book, even if you are not Jewish. It contains a wonderful story about the present Pope. There is something for everyone.
Now, I am waiting for Chicken Soup For the Jewish Soul #2 and hopefully, #3.

At last -- the Jewish volume in this great series
So nu, it's about time we finally got "Chicken Soup for the JEWISH Soul" -- after all, didn't we Jews invent the chicken-soup-cure-all metaphor in the first place? And storytelling is such a big part of our culture, that there was no shortage of material. In fact, according to the intro to this book, one of the reason it took so long to edit is because there was SO MUCH material. Enough, I hope, to do a sequel or two.

I was delighted to find so many of my favorite contemporary stories included: Larry Trapp, the ex-KKK member who had a real change of heart; a prison inmate touched by a hug from the late Shlomo Carlebach; How Kirk Douglas re-connected with his Jewishness at the Western Wall; how Eddie Kantor started the March of Dimes; the heroism of Raoul Wallenberg; the good-hearted people of Billings, Montana, who took a stand against antisemitism, etc. Plus there are many, many new stories to touch the heart and soul. Ten stars!

Well this book was ok.
This book is very interesting and you don't get bord reading the same thing over and over. You could read a lot of different stories. One of my favorite stories was about this girl that always got mad because her sister would always be able to go out with her friends. Then one day she got to go to an amusement park but she had to be back before 10:00pm. So they left the park at 10:30pm and they were scared that her dad would get mad at her so they were speeding in the freeway and the driver lost control of the car, so they got into a really bad car accident. Her head was cut open and she had to be hopitlized. for once her sister was glad they didn't let her go, but she was still very hurt because of what happend to her sister.

My Review
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Letters is a collective book of responses to the first three novels of Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Each story is just as heart warming as the stories in the original book, but this time the stories are ones that occurred due to the previous books in the series. Each story delivers a heart felt lesson of an "oh well, I guess that my life isn't that bad after all, " or a "maybe I should change my life too". Many of the writers were going through times when they thought suicide was the best option or that there was no option at all, each writer then expressed their own reaction to the book and how their life was changed and put back on the right track. Within the contents of the book, I found some truly amazing and uplifting stories; one was about a girl suffering from the loss of her only sister and how each section of the book brought her to overcome her devastating reality. Another was about a girl who got copies of the book for the grieving students at Columbine. Each story was compelling, up lifting, and really let me see what living is all about.
On a scale from 1-10 I would give this book a 9, because of it's mysterious ways to make me feel better about my self or just put me in a better mood. One of the most important reasons to pick up this book is because it lets me know that no matter what I do I am not alone and that where ever I go, I can make a difference if I am compelled to help.

Great Chicken soup book
I think this is one of the coolest Chicken Soup books. Its 101 stories to heal the heart of our nation. Right when I saw it at Shopko I wanted it. I just got it for my birthday and I have started to read it. So far I really enjoy it. My Mom has read some of it and also liked it. It has sad stories in it like one is about a person whos reltive died in the Twin Towers. there great stories about September 11, 2001 The chapters are

September 11, 2001
Amarica Responds
The World Resonds
Renewed Patriotism
United We Stand
Reflection
Wheres next?

All the Chapters are fulled with good stories

The healing continues
I picked a great one as the first "Chicken Soup" book to read from start to finish. I read the majority of this uplifting book as a metro train commuter to and from my duty station, the Pentagon. Having known three of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon, I had personal reasons to read this book. I found the many short, direct, and moving stories from common people, and their sharing of their deepest emotions, very comforting. I consider this book to be another step in my continuing personal program of coping and healing. I believe many others would also find reading it a great spiritual and emotional experience.

The only flaw with this outstanding book is that it is almost exclusively devoted to or focused on the World Trade Center heroes, victims, survivors, and volunteers. The book has very few stories about what happened at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. I commend the authors for their tremendous job in compiling these great stories from the thousands received and for publishing such an important book in such a short time to help so many. Tragedy and devastation were equally shared by friends, family, and acquaintances in New York, the Pentagon, and Pennsylvania. I believe this book should have included a few more Pentagon and Pennsylvania specific stories since the book's cover proclaims, "Stories to Heal the Heart of Our Nation."

United States of America Heroes
When I was shopping in Sam's with my mother and nephew and fiance I was looking for a dvd. I found nothing I really wanted to buy. Seemed to me I can no longer really buy a good flick these days. So there I was walking the aisle getting bored out of my mind when I stumbled on this book. At first I was a bit angered that the Chicken book series would sink so low to print a book about the September 11, attacks to make a quick buck. I started to read just to see what they printed and I came across the poem "I AM THE AMERICAN FLAG", by: Howard Schnauber on page: 206. There I was reading and feeling some pride about to burst through me and I wanted to cry. The partiot in me shed some tear. My fiance asked me what I was reading that was making me cry. I showed him. In turn he asked me why not buy it. I did. It'll be worth it. Some of the stories are beautiful and some will make you grateful we live in the greatest country in the world. But this patriot who believes in God and Jesus is proud to say that I am proud to be an American living in the Republic of United States of America.

Great Thai Cookbook!
This book has great Thai recipes.

I went to Thailand for a month and came back looking for authentic recipes. THIS IS THE BOOK TO BUY! The sections are clearly laid out (everything from street vendor food to Royal recipes!) and the instructions are clear. (Attention vegetarians: there is a section for you, too.) The glossary of ingredients is very helpful, as is the section is the back on where to get hard-to-find items.

I highly recommend this book, if you are looking for authentic Thai recipes.

Small potential "downsides": no photos (but the recipes come out flawless anyway) and they are REAL recipes, not simplified versions for crock-pot cooking - in other words be prepared to COOK. It also would be helpful if you lived near an Asian grocery store.

Don't let this scare you off - this cookbook is true to its title!

Amazing
This book gives you all the basics for making a great Thai dinner from scratch. From recommending the type of utensils and wok to use, to the recipes for making your own sauces and pastes to use in the recipes (he also allows the use of store-bought equivalents), this cookbook wows everyone I cook for. If you love Thai food, get it. My favorite cookbook. I recommend the Chicken with Cashews & Chili-Tamarind Paste. It's simply amazing.

Best Thai Cooking Book Bar None
I have a small library of asian cookbooks, including several Thai cookbooks, but this is by far the best cookbook for Thai cooking that I have come across. I cannot help but to recommend it to all of my friends who (1) like Thai food, and (2) like to cook.
The recipes tend to be on the spicy side, which is almost unheard of. So many Thai cookbooks try to water the spice down, temper the curry paste, only add a splash of lime or a leaf or two of Makrut leaves. Not this book. This book gives you great, rich flavor. Some of the recipes are VERY spicy, but none of the recipes, not even the very hot ones, are without the delicious complexity of flavor that is present in Thai cooking. The flavors are always full of a wonderful mix of different tastes from the region. Wonderful use of lime, herbs, chilis, lemongrass, coconut, and more.
The book has one drawback. I will probably not use the little cheap cans of Thai curry paste again. The recipes for the curry pastes in the book are so delicious and flavorfull that the overly salty curry cans are just not worth the facility they provide [well, almost not worth the facility ;-)].

Great Book!
I loved the book and if your thinking about buying it go for it.However if you haven't read Bunnicula and Howliday Inn your really missing out on some great books and you should get those too!

The Best Bunnicula Book!
This is the best Bunnicula book written. I have read the whole series and this is the best!

Bunnicula the vampire bunny is on the loose.
Bunnicula is a vampire bunny and he is on the loose. The Monroes, the family who owns Bunnicula, really don't have a clue about his escape. Bunnicula's pals Harold, Chester, and Howie are there to track him down in order to stop disaster. Chester has a theory that if Bunnicula bites the vegetables in everyone's garden they will turn into vampire vegetables and then attack the town. The message to the readers relays that ones mind can jump to many conclusions from the simple to the bazaar. Chester's idea of what may happen is defiantly leaning towards the bazaar. I like Celery Stalks at Midnight because the author told the story using animals which creates a hilarious picture in my mind.I recommend this book to all ages because of the animals and the mysterious happenings.

Gun Monkeys
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Dell Pub Co (2003)
Author: Victor Gischler
Amazon base price: $6.99
Average review score:

Gruesome great read
Charlie Swift is one of old Stan's gun monkeys. He is killer, protector, enforcer for Stan, the head of the Orlando crime syndicate. When Miami crime boss, Beggar Johnson, decides that Stan has grown too old to milk Orlando crime for all its worth, a territorial battle begins. When Stan disappears and the rest of the gun monkeys are killed off or turned to the dark[er] side, Swift has to go it alone to fend off Beggar's goons, renegade FBI agents and others. The body count mounts chapter by chapter, and as ruthless a killer as Swift is, the reader begins to root for him due to his loyalty to his boss, family and new girl friend, as well as his sheer skill as a "detective" and vengeful killer.

This is indeed a noir novel of the first ilk. It's a fast, exciting, easy read and holds the reader's interest until the inevitable showdown between Swift and Mercury (his counterpart as Beggar Johnson's head gun monkey).

If you are squeamish about descriptions of bloody violence or about raw language, stay away from this one. Otherwise, it's a really entertaining romp of a pulp novel.

Grit, guns, and stuffed bears.
This book is a great read. It's told through the voice of Charlie Swift, a tough piece of gun toting mobster muscle. Charlie works throug the problems that confront him like Dick Tracy on the wrong side of the law. The violence combines with a dark sense of humor that gives this book a fun gritty feel. Charlie meets a gal pal named Marcie who does taxidermy with an artists touch. Whether your a noir fan or not, or even if you don't know what noir is, this book is a must read.

Gun Monkey Speaking

Gischler hasn't written detective fiction here, but criminal fiction. This is the kind of book neo-noir fans like, with its muscular prose, language of the day, and unadulterated violence. Charlie Swift is so tough he's not ashamed to take care of his mother or be loyal to his boss. So he lives out of a suitcase and works out of a tin box trailer called the Monkey Cage, Charlie's got a bulging safe deposit box and he owes it all to one man: Stan the Man.

The opening sentence: "I turned the Chrysler onto the Florida Turnpike with Rollo Kramer's headless body in the trunk, and all the time I'm thinking I should've put some plastic down."

Charlie Swift, gun monkey, speaking.
