Definitely worth your time!
Not just another Horoscope read!
"Mr. Purcell's writing is very strong; the ideas presented are brilliant. It's a bold new direction in astrological thought.. a book that is way ahead of its time". I'm certainly glad I took the time to read this!

Great information! Clear, basic and simple enough for a novice like me to understand. An interesting new approach to the subject.

Living Large
Victor Buono was one of the true unsung geniuses (genii?) of the literary world; a kind of maxi-stealth bomber whose fluid delivery and vocal grace were entirely at odds with the cumbersome body with which glands and fate inflicted him. A fine, sensitive actor, he found his greatest satisfaction in his poetry, which for the most part centered on the aspect of his life for which he was most recognized; the trials and tribulations of being severely overweight. As a companion piece to this book, although it was only released on LP, the album "Heavy" is recommended, where he recites some of his best pieces, and displays the lovely voice that still lives on.
Miss you, Victor. You were an example for us all.
A delightful poet
I read some of the poems at high school speech events and people loved it. I wished Victor was still around to fill more books with his humor and talent.
poetry & comedy
The mans acting talent is exceeded by his poetry. One of (if not the best) comedy poetry books ever written. If you hate poetry, you will love this book. I used it as a source at my college speech class.

A Brilliant Book
I read this book as a child and it was a wonderful book. You really feel that you are there with the characters.I went on to read other books by the same author all were written with the same ability to take you to that moment and share it with the characters. Many years later I was fortunate enough to meet someone through our mutual love of horses, who became a good friend. She told me that she was a writer and yes she was Helen Griffiths. The main character of this book was a real dog who the family had adopted from the streets in Spain,I met her too and she was a fabulous personality in her own right. She died of old age surrounded by those who loved her.I feel privileged to have known her and her family, and having known what she went through in her earlier life makes it amazing that she was such an even tempered sweet natured soul.Highly recommended reading for kids (even grown up ones).A book that will definitely be on my sons' reading list
Can't stop reading it
I read this book when I was a kid several times, I absolutley loved it. It kept me reading and also taught me valuable lessons. It teaches compassion- you are reading this with the perspective of a homeless abused dog. It has many adventures and is just a great book for the imagination and soul. I recommend it, as soon as my little boy can read I definatley want this book to be on his list!
Just a Dog
This book is a wonderful epic tale with a message that tells you how strong a mother can really be when her children are on the line. It is a story that shows the ups and downs of motherhood, and childhood through a dog's perspective. One example of the ups of their lives were each puppy needed food from their mother, and every day the mother ventured out into the world to get it. Another example, but this time the downs were the mother left to get food, and the pups' got to excited and left the home. The went far away from their current position until their couriosity, and anxiety drove them so far away they couldnt find their way back. Now, this is where the proverb couriosity killed the cat, or in this case kills the dogs would come to place. Never the less, I thought that this book was wonderful, and it even made me cry at some parts. I recommend this book to anyone who is someone who loves epics, but still kind at heart.

The ultimate french classic
A story of mans struggle with himself, and an oppressive society. The book has it all repression, discrimination, Love. The persuit of Val jean by the relentless Javert. I have read the book many times over, and still get the same joy from reading it. Do not be put of by the size, it is an eminately readable book.
Hugo's classic story in the original French
Having previously only read the very beginning of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, I wasn't very interest in the story, but then I went to New York and saw the show performed on Braodway, and that was enough to send me back reading. All in all, I think that if it is possible for you to read and understand in French, this book is the way to go, because it is Hugo's original words. You may also find it useful (as I have) to purchase the English translation in order to better understand the story. This also gives you a chance to nitpick the translator. This is definately a masterful story.
what do you mean 4 1/2 stars?
This book is one of the greatest books that has ever been written, if not the best. It is very long, but the intricacies of the characters and the plot are incredible. Hugo is a master at tackling issues of life, war, love, and God with insight and humor. If you are possibly able to sit down and read ths many pages...do it (and the abridged version does not cut it).

real war letters
Ever since 14 July 1988 when I read Chronicle of Youth with absorbed attention and keen feeling I have been fascinated by Vera Brittain. This fine work, without duplicating Chronicle of Youth, sets out the letters written by her and her brother and friends till all her correspondents were killed in the war. This is a poignant work, well worth reading. One stands amazed and impressed by the eagerness of these Englishmen to serve their country, even though they knew the hell that the Western Front was, and though so much was repellant about the condition under which they soldiered.
WW1, first hand
Anyone who is interested in WW1 and the men and women who lived it, should read this account of the war first hand!
This is what the war really meant to people, both in and out of the trenches, for these are the letters written from and to them.
A thought provoking book, that it is true, is even more shocking.
It is about a generation of people that we should never forget.
a moving and mesmerizing book, worth every penny
I have been interested in Vera Brittain since her autobiography, Testament of Youth, was featured on Masterpiece Theatre in the 70s. I came across this new book by chance when looking for Testament, which my book group is reading and enjoying this month. This collection of letters not only recaptures Vera, her brother, and three close friends, it adds great dimension to their WWI experience. This is a book I will treasure a long time.

A great second book for author Alexandria Altman
I really liked reading this book. I have read Alexandria Altman's first book "John Carpenter Speaks Out", also a very good book. Easy to read and to the point. I look forward to reading "Mission Possible" #2 and on. Also I look froward to any other of Ms. Altman's books. I feel we will be seeing her as a bestseller in the near future.
Amazing Book On Success
It is an amazing book. I really like the way that each of the 12 authors shared how they achieved success. It is easy to read and filled with lots of useful information. You can pick it up and read a chapter in 30 minutes and have practical ideas to apply now! It really motivated me to become more successful. Anyone wishing to be more successful should buy this book and apply the principles. I am and it is paying dividends!
Learning from the Masters.
... This is the book for you. Fast-paced interviews with successful individuals can be a great encouragement. Such is the information contained in Mission Possible! Barry Banther's inspirational chapter is worth the price of the book alone. You will have your favorite chapter I am sure. This is truly "on-the-job-training" for living.

This book was a delight!
I bought this book from a second hand store in Australia and loved it! In a space of 3 months I have read it 3 times and refer to it almost daily. It is inspirational, and as a result of this book, I have achieved quite a few goals I had previously thought impossible. If you are in need of some inspiration. positive thoughts and a general "feel-good" read. this is the one. I have since bought a book as a git for a friend who has been feeling miserable - she now has a spring in her step again! Do yourself a favour - read it - every day!
It is the gift I give friends who need to be uplifted.
I bought the book when I was stranded in a small airport with nothing to do and nothing to read. The stories seemed to reach into the dark corners of doubt and I felt an enourmous release. I was going to present new material to an important client and I was extremely nervous. I found that the book made me focus on what I did well, and I found "delight" in the people that I was dealing with. What a difference it made! I now give the book to friends who need to find the balance and delight in their lives.
Everyday wisdom.
'Out of the Blue' is uplifting and full of everyday wisdom, my favorite kind of book. It is a book that falls open at just the right passage to provide valuable insight on whatever is concerning you at the moment. It is also quite capable of jumping off the shelf into your hands if you are browsing while thinking about some problem.

From a back seat driver
From March, 1967 through February, 1968, I was a crew chief with the 121st Assault Helicopter Company. It was my privilege to serve with Victor Beaver during his first six months in Viet Nam. His book gives a very accurate view of the operations of an Army assault helicopter company working in support of the Viet Namese infantry during that period. His description of life off duty captures the spirit of what we went through, and brings back many old memories and dimly remembered characters for me.
Victor also tells the story of the young men who went through the Warrant Officer Flight Training program in the late 1960's. This is the first time that the true story of this training has ever been told, and if the book told nothing else, it would be an historical treasure for this.
By his artful combination of these stories, along with the travails of transition to the AH1 "Huey Cobra" he has produced a book that is a must read for anyone interested in the history of Army Aviation.
Victor, I salute you.

The Best historical novel of the helicopter war in Viet Nam
Whether you thought the war was right or wrong, you will not be able to put this book down. Victor Beaver takes the reader on a journey from the early days of flight school, to a breath-taking climax that is so real, you will swear you were there.I highly recommend this book to anyone who is the least bit curious about the feelings of the young aviators who fought so valiantly in the skies of South Viet Nam.
The best ever historical novel of the helicopter war
As a former helicopter gunship pilot during the Viet Nam war, I found this to be by far the best work of it's kind to date. Victor Beaver's style of writing will make you feel like you're part of a class going through flight school. He does not debate whether the war was right or wrong, but rather tells a superb story from the veiw points of several characters. This is a must read book for anyone interested in this part of American history. It is a book that once started, is extremely difficult to put down!

Excellent, nutritional recipes that are great.
I cherish all of the books written by this author--there is only one that I do not have. He writes clearly and the recipes are easy to assemble and to follow. Because the ingredients used are fresh, the end result is delicious and hearty. All I can say is that the monks in this monastery eat VERY WELL!!!! They have a very talented Chef who obviously loves all aspects of his work and his vocation.
Make friends with owners of this cook book
One of my friends bought this book and has allowed me to sample his cooking ... I recommend buying or associating with someone who owns and uses this book!!! The recipies are very good and healthy.
A delight for the senses and the soul
Those of us who love to cook sometimes love to just curl up with a cookbook on a quiet night and READ. this book is wonderful for these times... it is infused with a sense of calm, joy, peace, a love of nature and simple pleasures. I love how the recipes are arranged according to season, so that the ingredients and richness of the meals are in sync with changing weather and ingredients throughout the year. and reading the section about fresh herbs made me run out to the local garden center to buy basil. best of all, there's not a bad recipe in the bunch. unlike many vegetarian cooks who seem to want to smother everyhthign with cumin and miso, Brother Victor is a master of simplicity. the recipes have one or two perfectly chosen herbs to bring out natural flavors, subtly and iwth restraint. i highly recommend this book!
