Twice the book for Tarzan fans
If any one is a fan of Johnny Weissmuller or even if you are just a fan of his Tarzan movies this is the book to read. There is so much I didn't know about this real American hero that is presented in such an informative and entertaining way. I heard the author is working on a book about Maureen O'sullivan. I'll be first in line for that one. You won't be disapointed in this book. Some great pictures as well.

Well Researched
I was very impressed by the research in this biography of Johnny Weismuller. A lot of time was spent in getting opinions of those who knew and worked with Weismuller throughout his athletic and film career. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in films or in Johnny Weismuller.

Great read!
I've been a "Weissmuller" fan for most of my life, and this book is long overdue. The rare photos are simply great. The book may seem to be slightly over-priced until one examines the quality of the workmanship. The binding and print is first-rate.It covers Johnny's life from his birth in Europe in1904 to his death in 1984.While it doesn't shy away from the multiple marriages,it doesn't delve into salacious gossip. It's obvious the biography was written by a true fan.I especially enjoyed the foreword by Johnny Sheffield. It revealed a lot about the true character of Weissmuller.David Fury is to be complimented for this excellent book! P.S. Johnny Weissmuller was my boyhood idol.He was "head and shoulders" above everyone,in my book.I was most fortunate to meet him, when he came to my hometown,in 1967.I was 13 at the time, and it was quite a thrill to meet him.He was 63,and looked simply great! I still treasure the two autographed pictures he gave me.

Wall Street City in Years
The book is entitled 'Wall Street City by the same name asthe Web site. But this is not just a guide tothat site. This is a versatile guide for newcomers making their first steps in personal investing.

'Wall Street City', the book, is divided into seven parts. One is an introduction to the investing process that forms the underlining structure for most of the book. Part Two tells where to find prospecting tools for stock - free lists, search engines, stock picks from market experts, and stocks unique to the Internet. Part Three discuss Web sites that offer research tools, such as company reports, earnings estimates, SEC reports, and so on. Part Four offer a brief discussion of technical analysis and where to find technical timing tools on the Internet and review 19 discount brokers. Part Five shows how to use Web resources to monitor your portfolio, the market, and industry groups, and how to plan for the optimum time to sell a stock. Part Six introduces you to Web sites that will help you to plan a portfolio through assets allocation. And Part Seven presents Web sites with educational content for investors.

The free CD-ROM in the back of the book offers free access to the Wall Street City site for 30 days and selected bookmarks from the book.

I recommend the book for beginners. But give notice: the book was published in April 1997 and the world of investing is changing very fast.

Good but...
I first picked this one up a year ago and found it really useful. But then I got hold of Trading Online by Alpesh Patel. Trading Online gives you more punch for you dollar (or pound since I got it in London)

Excellent introduction at using the Internet for investing.
This book is an excellent introduction to investing in the stock market and researching stocks and mutual funds information through the Web. The book provides plenty of free sources of information and a few sources that I have found to be free but which you cannot find unless you pay for the Internet site subscription or read the book. Also, it briefly presents Internet resources available for analyzing options and commodities. The information in the book is well structured, clear, and interesting. I bought the book read it, reviewed it, and started applying its concepts within a week. I had three concerns in my selection of this book: given the nature of the Internet I wanted the most current information possible, I wanted information giving me choices of Internet sources without being limited to an investment system or web site, and finally I wanted a book focused on using the Internet for stocks and stocks related investments. This book met all my expectations. I specially enjoyed the information on insider trading and the performance of sectors in the market. I wholeheartedly recommend this book especially to those like me who are starting from scratch with little or no experience in using the financial, research, and assessment tools available in the Internet.

Good overview and reference
Brown's book provides a good overview of biotic communities in an easy to understand and organized format. It serves as an excellent introduction to plant communities of the Southwest, with secondary references to animal populations. The drawback is that all references to elevation and precipitation are in metric units with no parenthetic conversion to feet and inches.

A must for anyone participating in the Southwest's landscape
This book is the baseline reference for any naturalist seeking to better understand the southwestern landscape. I refer to mine often. Be sure to get the companion map.

nice photo gallery
A nice photo gallery for anyone who ever saw a bridge (and not just the Golden Gate) as something more than a road on stilts. There must be around 150 or so bridges shown here. Many of the views are stunning, and one can curl up with the book for many hours. There could be more in the way of technical explanation. One wonders why they chose, for a given site, a suspension or cantilever structure, or one of these new weird-shaped things. The book may be a bit too democratic in allotting just so much space to each bridge--the Golden Gate gets the same two pages as some homely box girders. For some bridges, additional photos of construction history might have been nice. Regardless, it's an absorbing bunch of pictures, and you won't look at bridges, even those faded cantilevers down the road, the same way.

One of the best bridge books in my collection.
I am an avid collector of bridge photographs and books devoted to bridges. Brown's book has the best combination of global span variety, color photography, and accurate historical and technical information. I would easily rate this book on par with David Plowden's classic "Spans Of North America". If you are a bridge fan, do not hesitate to add this book to your collection.

Helms is a man who lived in the shadow of his own success
Though I truly doubt that Davis and Brown will win any literary awards for this book, it is truly a fascinating look at the life of this legend. Living in Martinsville, I grew up knowing that the great Bobby Helms was a local, and later I found out it seemed a great secret to many people who he was. This book sets about looking at the sudden rise of Bobby Helms - and the many tumbles he took after. Where did his country music friends go? Why did every crooked manager seem to find him? How in the world could anyone live through so many tragic circumstances? Truly we see a man of great spirit, pride, and humanity. This book is a good read if you believe in the perserverence of the human soul.

great!
A truly fascinating account from firsthand experience. Well worth the read and hard to put down!

grizzlies and black bears in the southwest
Stories about particular bears and events in the southwest, from the 1820s to the present. Shows the changing attitude toward bears. Written by David Brown, who also wrote the very good book "The Grizzly in the Southwest: Documentary of an Extinction".

The Last Grizzly and other Southwestern Bear stories.
I could not put this book down!!! Wonderful stories about the Great Bear that roamed so much of the American West. This is really a history lesson about how our ancestors exterminated the Grizzly mainly due to not fully understanding this animal. Let this be a lesson for present and future generations on how to preserve the American Grizzly.

Expose Yourself to a Dizzying Array of Minds - Read It!
This book is a wonderful introduction to the thoughts and philosophies of some of today's most radical thinkers. The interview format works well, as it allows for spontaneous insights from the interviewees. The subjects range from poets to scientists to cultural commentators (ie Terence McKenna), and the authors do a notably good job of revealing some common themes between all of their philosophies. If you want to know where the world is heading, read this book!

Fascinating!!
This book contains a lot of fascinating and leading-edge ideas from an array of amazing individuals. Because it's a series of interviews, it's easy to pick up and put down and read over again. I've given it to several (smart) friends over the years, and it's inspired me to read other works by and about some of the very interesting people and ideas discussed here... in a world that often seems awash with stupidity and brutality, this book offers the hope intelligence might actually still be evolving within our species.

If you like funny books read this book
I give this book four stars , because it was funny. I think it was funny because of the characters expresions.Sometimes it got boring.I would recomend it to someone because I liked it very much and it was funny .

Authur and the scare your pants off club .
Aurthur and his friends wait for a brand new Scare-Your-Pants-off club book. But at the libray all the books in that series had been banned so they try to find a way to get the books back.

Examining censorship
Arthur and the gang are not-so-patiently waiting for the next installment in the Scare-Your-Pants-Off Book club. They’ve read all the others in the series, like “Curse of the Mummy’s Breath” and “Zombie Substitute Teacher” and can’t wait for the next one to come out.

The day it’s due to arrive at the library, the gang is poised, having all but camped out overnight to be the first in line to check it out and read it. You can imagine their surprise when they find out that it has been banned from the public library! A group of concerned parents have decided that it’s not appropriate for children and to have had it removed! What’s the gang to do? Is there any way Arthur and his friends can get the book back so everyone can enjoy it? A surprise ending is in store for the reader, making this a fun page-turner.

Marc Brown’s Arthur is one of the best-known characters in children’s literature today. He’s seen on television, has large format picture books and also the Arthur Adventure series, of which this title is #2. Intended for intermediate, independent readers who have graduated to short chapter books, the Arthur books are easy to read, a lot of fun, and encourage readers to think about their world and the different issues of friendship, family or in the case of “Scare-Your-Pants-Off Club”, censorship....

I have used “Scare-Your-Pants-Off Club” in my own classroom many times and found that it’s a great way to stimulate conversation and thinking among my students (one cryptically hinted that maybe we should ban THIS book as well!!). My point in using it as a social studies tool isn’t to agree or disagree with students so much as it is to get them to THINK—- “tell me your feelings about censorship, but back it up with reasoning and research” is how I address the issue. This in turn allows the student not only to voice their own opinion, but to examine their feelings and opinions as well; too many times in our culture we allow other folks to do our thinking for us.

Mr. Brown has done an excellent job of taking a very complicated issue in our society and presenting it to young readers in an understandable and intelligent way. I appreciate and applaud authors who not only aim to entertain their readers, but encourage them to think about themselves and their world. Hats off, Mr. Brown!! You’ve done it again!!
