Great Book
I bought this book after seeing the show, and decided to use some songs in auditions. This book is very good because they give you most of the songs from the musical. Most of the songs are in there but not all of the reprises are there. The confusing part of the book is the fact that they don't give the names of the characters singing the songs. Clear and easy to read music adds to the benefits of this book! Great for those just learning to read music. Would be challenging for a beginning pianist.

Very useful...fun music in original key
All the great songs needed to audition for the show!

The Art of Fundraising
This is a timeless book -- his course was excellent as well. It is just plain common sense and a great foundation.

Excellent Reference Work.
The Art of Fund Raising tells you nothing about "turn key" operations in development, nothing about "mass mailings." Warner tells you, in his wonderfully simple and very eloquent writing that fund raising is about giving of yourself to help people find what is best for them. He explains that fund raising is the very essence of humanity, and its only money that gets in the way. Your job is to take Warner's work and interpret fund raising and use your own contacts and skills
for your clients. I refer a lot to the Do's and Don'ts section and especially enjoy his
often humorous, and very insightful "It happened to me, don't let it happen to you" section. 35+ years of experience and hundreds of satisfied students, readers and clients can't be wrong. Enjoy

Captures the spirit of the heartland
I grew up in Illinois, but only after I moved away did I learn that the vast midwestern sky is unique. Irving's panoramic photos capture the beauty of the open sky as no others I've seen. Whenever I'm homesick, if I need to see a midwestern thunderstorm, I open Irving's book and I'm there.

Inspiring panoramic photos of the beauty of rural IL
If you live in the Midwest or try to photograph it, this may be the best $20.97 you can spend. It is a book of inspiring, panoramic, color photos of rural Illinois. Gary pulls the beauty out of a landscape that most people, including photographers, usually ignore. This book has opened my eyes to the state I live it and given me photographic ideas that I was blind to before.

Cheyenne Again
This literary piece is well written with the exquisite paintings that amplify the story over all. To have the visual images interact with the writing so well, I have to wonder how such an artist would only have illustrated a few books. A must read and a visual pleaser to the afficianados of art. Irving Toddy is a fine artist whose work should be sought out more. Eve Bunting is a good writer whose work is always complemented by the illustrator. In this case, to have a Native American-Navajo illustrate and to have lived the characters experiences is great.

A simple, yet profoundly moving tale of Native Americans.
I teach reading and language classes. This book is an excellent resource to encourage reading, to introduce new language, and to increase my students knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

Fantastic! Well-written! Beautifully photographed!
This is a WONDERFUL book. It is detailed, well-written, and the photographs are gorgeous. It is A MUST for anyone interested in the roots of American fashion.

An excellent look at a unique designer.
This is a well-written and beautifully produced book. It is a combination biography/retrospective on the work of Claire McCardell, a fashion designer popular in the 1940s and 1950s. She is virtually forgotten today, which is a shame--her work was unique and truly American. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in fashion design.

This book is clearly written with outstanding illustrations
Clinical Periodontology thoroughly covers the cellular science involved in oral health, as well as applicable tissue functioning. The book then clearly describes the genesis, diagnosis and management of periodontal disease. As a scientist who is not a dentist, the illustrations were outstanding and led to a much better understanding of the material. Congratulations to the authors and editors for putting together a book this seamless in both its description of clinical periodontology and its focus on solving problems.

Recommended by the Medical Library Association.

A Revelation
I was already a Berlin fan before I got this book. Some of his lyrics are known to almost everyone; he "is" American music. I love to read, hear, and sing his words. But the overwelming bonus of this book is to find out that he wrote so many bad lyrics along with his successes; and I mean downright lousey. I treasure knowing this because I am now aware that A) Writing fabulous lyrics is difficult for ANYONE! - and - B) Writing bad lyrics did not stop Irving Berlin; he just kept churning out material and some of it is immortal. This book is wonderful, particularly for those of us who write songs.

A massive monument in Americal musical history
Jerome Kern was not one to compliment other composers. However, when he was asked to assess Irving Berlin's place in American music, Kern replied that Berlin WAS American music. Not too long ago, the A&E channel did two "Classroom" broadcasts about Berlin's life; and by a coincidence, several items concerning this prolific composer have recently come my way. I want to share one of them with you.

It is a wonderful book from publisher Alfred A. Knopf titled "The Complete Lyrics of Irving Berlin," edited by Robert Kimball and Linda Emmet (one of the composer's three daughters). Now, considering that this man wrote well over a thousand songs, that is quite a bit of material for a single volume. But this one measures roughly 11" by 12" and holds 530 pages, which hold three columns of text. In this way, we get the lyrics to 1,200 songs for which he wrote both words and the music (only a few early songs were set to words by others).

The organization is chronological and intelligently packaged. Unlike Rodgers, Kern and Gershwin, Berlin wrote for Tin Pan Alley as well as for the stage. Therefore the editors have grouped the lyrics by "Songs" that were not intended for a specific show or film and by songs that were. So for 1914, for example, you will get all the independent songs composed that year in one chapter and those written for "Watch Your Step" the same year in a separate chapter. Even more welcome are the lyrics to many songs that were never published! It makes fascinating reading to surmise why these had to wait until this book came along to see the light of day.

To make this book even more valuable, each song is given a little preface concerning copyright dates and other items of interest to the American musical historian. And you will love the full-page photographs that stand at the start of each chapter. There is also an introductory essay and a very useful chronology at the start of the book, while the index at the end can help you locate in the body of the book any song by title with no trouble. So while Berlin's lyrics might not be as clever as those of Cole Porter, Lorenz Hart or Ira Gershwin, many of them will bring back memories of how Americans felt almost from the start to the finish of the last century.

(Take note. Knopf also has available similar tomes for the lyrics of Porter, Hart, and I. Gershwin. Each one is a definite Grabbit.

Highly recommended!
This wonderful book in an excellent dictionary of religious words and phrases. In a remarkably short space, it defines the terms in a concise and highly informative way, often explaining how different groups differ on them. I have found that every word that I have been interested in is indeed covered in this book. I highly recommend this resource!

Marvelous Reference for the Student of Religion
As a religious studies professor to undergraduate students, Irving Hexham understands the sense of bewilderment that can accompany any study of the world's religions. In this concise and helpful volume, he gives us short insights into an amazing array of topics: western religions, eastern religions, new religious movements, personalities, sacred texts, religious ideas and much more. If you seek depth, this is not the book for you. But it is extremely useful if you need short descriptions to help you become oriented in topics you encounter while studying or reading. I use it often to determine if a subject is something that I wish to pursue further in more detailed texts.

Layton is incredible!
Layton is a poet who is at once both the Poet and the Celebrity, and it is no wonder after reading the poems in this book. He has always been a favorite of mine - he contiues to typify the best of modern poetry...

A classic
The romantic poetry of master poet Layton coupled (and I used that word carefully!) with the unusual erotic etchings of master artist Richard Gorman. A happy alliance of Canadian art and literature.
