Not a survival guide, but a study guide
I purchased this book becuase I administer several WinNT 4.0 servers of varying size, cost and importance. I wanted... no wait... needed a book that would accomplish what the title says - A SURVIVAL guide, (i.e. There is a problem, or a situation, or a request, and you need a reference to help when you are clueless).

THIS BOOK IS NOT SUCH!

I have looked at this book countless times and not once did it provide an answer. I am not kidding here, it really helped me 0 times.

I recommend Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows NT Server 4 if you need an answer to a question or problem. It has never failed to provide an answer.

I read the other reviews of this book and it suddenly became clear to me, this book is probably better suited as a study guide for budding MCSE's as opposed to people actually supporting live NT boxes. Since that means it probably serves a useful purpose, I will upgrade my 1-star rating to 2-stars.

Excellent Book and well written
I am currently studying for my MCSE and I have found this book to be easy to read and understand. I have read few other books on NT (exam cram and sybex)and these books do not even compare to this one. Most of the books out there are full of technical as well as grammer errors. I found this book to be right on. The authors do a great job explaining and giving you step by step instructions in PLAIN ENGLISH. I highly recommend this book for anyone that is serious about NT!

Essential Webmaster Reference
I own and use most of the books available for NT and Internet and web development. I use this one as a daily reference. When we built our first NT 4, IIS 3 web server this book was used all day every day. The book covers the knowledge you really need when setting up IIS 3 as well. I refer to it more often than I do my IIS 3 books!

some good information, but out of date
I bought this book because who would not buy a book about which none other than MFK Fisher calls "in every sense of the word a modern classic"? I had read Mr. Pelligrini's book "The Unpredjudiced Palate". Although I find his very florid writing style a trifle overdone, he does make good points about staying in touch with the earth and our connection to the animals and plants we eat and how they get to the table. It is true we live to a large extent in a cellophane-wrapped, frozen, fast-food world. "A Food Lover's Garden" , however, must be read in these days with the knowledge that the book was originally published in 1970. And in those days, Mr. Pellegrini was obviously unaware that the wonderful fresh vegetables he harvested from his backyard garden, which were so "healthy" for his family's table, had been dusted, sprayed and marinated in chemical fertilizers and poisons such as diazinon and rotenone. So, although he does have a few interesting things to say about different vegetables, his straight-furrow planting and growing techniques are out-of-date, to say the least. In today's ecology-conscious world, we are all aware (or should be) of the effect of these poisons on the environment and on our bodies. Gardeners still must deal with garden pests, but I much prefer the totally organic, successive planting, intensive planting and interplanting techniques used by Sally Jean Cunningham in her book "Great Garden Companions". Her basic theory is to follow Mother Nature's example and create biodiversity in your garden by interplanting several species of vegetable and flower and herb, thereby creating a habitat for friendly garden predators who prey upon the pests. "Never spray!", she says. And as my husband and I are building our raised beds to start our first garden this spring, I look down at the creek below and wonder how much poison from lawn treatments and weed killer has gotten into it - lots, I suspect. No matter that we have many more "weeds" than the former inhabitants, to whom Round-Up was something you spread around everywhere, to the point there are still places where you can smell it a year later. "A Food Lover's Garden" means well - a curiosity read. But the how-to manual should be "Great Garden Companions". It is better to pick off a few bugs from your vegetables than to put all that poison into your land and into your bodies.

Great gardening and cooking
This is a great book for home gardeners. Suggestions can be modified depending on geographical location. Then there is the personal commentary and great cooking suggestions. I have had this book since it's original printing in 1970 and treasure it immensly. I've just ordered it for my daughter who lives in the Seattle area.

So you're telling me you aren't busy enough? =0)
I purchased this book awhile back - before I was in the salon business... now that I'm 'in it' and building my clientele - I am finding this a really nice marketing & promotions reference.
It's important to keep your mind fresh with ideas!

This book is so chock-full of them that some may work for you now - while others may work more for you later down the road.

I, personally, have found the "Using Publicity Power to Spread News about your Salon" and the "Use a Publicity Kit to Multiply your Publicity Power" as the most useful to me so far... Giving me information that I hadn't thought about! ( I love that!)

I think it is time for a new edition of this 1998 book since email, websites or online purchasing is not included.

BUT, even without those aspects included - this is a wonderful reference that every salon owner or professional should have in their library!

This book is more of an outline of marketing for salons.
This will remind you of Jay Abraham's marketing books but for the salon owner. The marketing techniques are very sound (nothing off the wall) Common sense prevails throughout the book. None of the ideas require a lot of money but you will need the time to do them. This book plus Jay Abrahams for a general overview of marketing and Brian Tracy's "Laws of Business Success" should be in every salon owners library.

Enemies of San Angelo

Enemies of San Angelo
Enemies of San Angelo is a support book for the San Angelo game universe by Gold Rush Games. It is designed specifically for the Champions RPG, but is easily adaptable for other RPGs. This book presents that all-important staple of Superhero RPGs, the supervillains. However, not content with presenting a run of the mill product, GRG has created villains that have realistic motovations, as well as full greyscale art. Each villain has advice on how to utilize him or her in a campaign, as well as a non-powered character that has motivations designed to interact with the villain. Sometimes the "normals" are friends of the supervillain, other times advisaries, but all of them are interested in the villains, and so should you be. This book is a great resource. The only problem I had with the book, was the cover art (which I was a little less than satisfied with) and one or two pieces of interior art. If not for that I would have given this book 5 stars, as it is I would still give it 4 1/2 stars.

clear and motivating
This is a great book for beginners and more advanced sound therapists will also find new ideas. James clearly outlines how to groan, laugh or tone yourself to health and also includes chants from around the world and the basic techniques of overtoning. He incorporates a lot of body work too, mainly tai-chi. He's very generous with ideas and anyone can use this as a self help tool. Clearly illustrated, not too much music therory, fun exercises- I recommend this for anyone interested in using the voice as a healing tool

The definitive introduction to Patrology
Quasten reviews the life and works of every Christian writer from the apostolic fathers to the end of the Patristic period. An extensive bibliography is given, containing editions of the work, translations and studies. Attention is also paid to manuscript traditions for the works. The detail is fullest for the earlier writers - later ones are still treated in a lot of detail, but volume constrains the data somewhat.

Vol I - From the Apostolic Creed to Irenaeus.

Vol II - The Ante-Nicene Literature after Irenaeus.

Vol III - The Golden age of Greek Patristic Literature.

Vol IV - The Golden Age of Latin Patristic Literature.

The first three volumes date to the mid-1950's - the last to 1986. Consequently the bibliography for the earlier volumes needs to be updated by reference to a comprehensive bibliography such as L'Annee Philologique for each author and work.

The work is a triumph of detail and essential as a starting point and reference for anyone interested in the Fathers. It is easily the quickest way to discover what works were written by which father, and where to get an edition/translation of it. Even for specialists, it will be useful as a first point of investigation. A book to return to again and again. Recommended, with the only qualification being the age of the first 3 volumes.

A passion for language, a demon for work
Murphy has written a compelling account of the life of Pascal D'Angelo, an Italian immigrant who left a hard life in Italy for one harder in the United States: carrying rock and hauling rock to make way for roads and railways, a pick and shovel man. His language is clean and sure; he uses D'Angelo's life to illuminate the experience of many Italians who came to this country in the early years of the 20th century. More than that, however, he makes D'Angelo's fervent desire to read and write English palpable. Writing words on the unheated shack where he lived, visiting the local library, gleaning stray meanings from his fellow workmen -- it will give young people a glimpse of how much one can long for the right words. His poetry is ornate but passionate, and the whole is a marvelous read.
