Accessible, well-written, and utterly compelling history is loaded with facts and dates, but more than that, this book places each president in the context of his times. Therefore, we come to understand the era itself; with the policies, debates, and legal questions fully explored.

While I have all four of these books in Paperback and therefore have had no need to buy this book I have looked through this book and I think buying this one is a MUCH better idea than buying them seperately. This book includes pictures, Drawings by Al Hirschfield, Cut-Lyrics and more. All four of the shows are purely genius and provide you with laughter while provoking thoughts. This is a must for all Sondheim fans and musical fans and anyone interested in 4 great shows: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Sunday in the Park With George,Sweeny Todd, and A Little Night Music.

There are magnificent books about the French Revolution, Michelet's (not Burke, not Carlysle could match its emotional committment to the heart rather than the idea), Lammartine (readers have sung the Marselleise leafing through the history of te Gironde), then comes Lefevbre, a modern..narrates at Michelet's tempo the measures of Lammartine's events. No doubt the modern's attraction is to the more objective clause, and yet, at some point an image of Marianne strats to appear in the pages. Yes, a son of the Revolution, on the way to the annaliste school. This is what modern historical writing should be all about..

What can one say about George. Sensative and impish. Martha is just too cool for words. She can give heavy guilt without saying a word.

I read this book just for the curiosity on the two sons by adoption of George W. Ball. Lt. John C. Ball was my Officer in charge when I was in the Army at Kagnew Station in Eritrea (Ethiopia then) in 1964. I remember John C. Ball as not like the typical officers in the army.

Ingle's book is valuable for its insight into how Orwell was wont to exaggerate his hardships early in life as well as his attempts to record it as it *felt*. As a feminist I of course deplore Orwell's lack of sensitivity to Women and their struggles for suffrage, for political rights, and the right to own their own bodies. Nowhere does Orwell make clear that he is fighting for the rights of women, and this cannot be forgotten. We must also note that he continues to enjoy popularity among conservatives, a fact lost upon no self-respecting radical. I suppose that while the rest of us are challenging the assumptions of the colonialist mindset, white male writers of the past such as Orwell (who once slapped 'coolies' when losing his temper) are no longer useful in our examiniation of imperialist paradigms. For a contemporary perspective of the incredible variety and richness of post-colonial discourse, we need to turn to more radical and transgressive writers, such as Mary Daly, bell hooks, Ishmael Reed, and others. Orwell continues to accumulate dust and conservative praise, though we should continue to mine his works for their telling inconsistencies.

This deluxe volume covers each of the courses on the PGA Tour and has several full color pictures of key holes on each course covered. Since some PGA tour events are replaced by new ones, the book may become slightly dated but, nonetheless, it is a great spectator's guide for those who watch the tour each week on TV or who occasionally attend tour events in person. The volume also includes a great map of each course covered. This is useful because it puts the course in perspective, For example, I have seen the famous 13th hole at Augusta National on TV many times but never appreciated how sharp a dogleg it is until seeing the map. Also, the map shows the direction each hole runs in relation to other holes. For example one hole may go out and the next hole come back in the opposite direction. The maps give you this perspective. Another great feature of the book is a short piece written by a golfer who has won the tournament played on that course. I highly recommend this wonderful book.
