Flowerdew Hundred: A Review
This book discusses the History of a Virgina Platation seen through the eyes of those that came long after the people who lived and toiled had departed. This story is about people. Some we know of,and some we don't. This is the story of their lives, told through the broken dishes and pipes that remain. James Deetz weaves together the history of this plantation to create a wonderous tapastry for all to enjoy, even if you arent an archeologist.

Founding Friendship: George Washington, James Madison, and the Creation of the American Republic
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Virginia (December, 1999)

An informative examination of the two key founders
Few books have treated this topic, Madison and Washington's collaboration, and this is an excellent treatment. Unravelling the waxing and waning of this relationship serves well those interested in the Federalist Era. The scholarship is obvious, and the presentaion is good. Those interested in the unfoldings of the Republic must pay attention to the Father of the Country, and his relationship to the Father of the Constituion. Liebiger allows an enormous view of Washington's dignity as a statesman, and Madison's erudition in the realm of Constituion building, amongst other federalist era realtionships, this collaboration was as crucial as any, and a topic long overdue.

The cover gives you a good indication of what this book is
A well designed, documented, illustrated catalog of ideas and masterpieces. The good thing here is that you can apply all these beautiful ideas. You can buy statues, chairs, fountains and plant the right vegetation around it (or the other way around). You will love this book. You might even keep it for yourself if you planned to offer it to your parents. Buy two of them. You won't regret it.

Gardening Indoors With Cuttings
Published in Paperback by Van Patten Pub (01 December, 1997)
Authors: George F. Van Patten, Alyssa F. Bust, and Hart James
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Small book, but packed with information
The book contains about 88 pages divided into five sections. The sections are Environment, Nutrients, Rooting Medium, Hormones, and Cuttings. The book contains several hand sketches.

The book is well written and covers many fundamentals about growing plants indoor. Also, it's original information. This book is not just a re-write from Van Patten's other book, "Gardening Indoors with HID Lights". It is completely different information. All new writing.

This is a solid beginner's guide. Although, the book does make the process sound way too simple. In my first attempt, all my cuttings died. Yes - I did follow the instructions. But it's not as simple as it first looks. It takes several attempts to get good at propagating plants.

I wish the book had a troubleshooting section. Answering questions like, "why are my little plants turning yellow?"
It's a small book, but packed with information. A good value.

Traveling in Colonial Times.
In this fast-paced age we live, it's even difficult for adults to remember that traveling didn't use to be so easy. JOURNEY TO MONTICELLO illustrates the hardships of traveling in colonial times in very dramatic and graphic detail by telling the tale of Amos Trumball on a journey to deliver an important letter to Thomas Jefferson. Amos travels from his home in Braintree, Massachusetts to Monticello, Virginia. Along the way he rides in a coach, ferry, on a horse, and travels by foot. The trip takes several weeks and Amos incurs several hardships. Great book for introducing children to colonial times and also for helping them realize how blessed we are nowadays.

A better book than most
I've been in Japan for 4 years watching and studying Japanese management. Although you may find more famous books on the topic, this book is which I like. Had read it earlier, I would have saved much time I spent in Japanese libraries.

I'd give it 5 stars if had included more detailed explainations on the Japanese culture and history.

Worth time to read.

My only complaint with this book is the title.
I love the way Garrett writes, and have enjoyed all of his books that I have read, but this book doesn't seem to have much to do with the title. If you are looking for a clever insight into the minds of commoners, messengers, and Catholic Priests (among others) during Elizabeth's reign, then this is the book for you. There is one very interesting chapter on the letters between Elizabeth and James, but most of the rest of the book seems to stray from the subject of the succession.
