For companies going from empowerment to the next level.
The four authors that compiled research for this book did a fantastic job. They had four different minds that created a synergy that is very helpful for those organizations that are ready to take the next step from empowerment to virtual teams or high performance teams. For those organizations that have not started empowerment, this book is not one to read. Here is a synopsis of the most important issues in the book: 1) Knowledge is power (p.18); 2)the job of the manager is different and difficult - to find the best people you can, motivate them to do the job, and allow to do it their own way; 3)for companies to succeed in the future, the employees need to be challenged; 4) if we conduct business as usual, we soon won't have business to conduct (p24); chapter 4 discusses the changing role of the leader - from autocratic to participateive to high-involvement leadership. There is one part that appears as if the writers were never in a very strong union environment. They discuss unions as if they will willingly accept this change. I do not agree with their concepts on this issue. I believe that unions will fight against this concept due to the reason for unions being alive and well today. A great note from the authors is on page 216 - "Many team leaders are so conditioned to think only about what the team needs that they neglect their own development". This is a great comment from those of us who lead managers. We need to ensure that our managers continue to learn... In the summary on p. 264, the comment, 'Virtual teams, and the people who lead them, are the wave of the future', is a statement that should be repeated over and over. We all need to continue to reach for that continual "virtual" team. The powerful comment on p. 269 is to answer the question, "If you can't say why you actually make your company a better place, you are out." We need to continually ask ourselves how we can improve our company or get out of the way of those who can. This is an excellent boo! k for those who need to take the next step in managment.

Learn & Live
I just watched the video and I am ordering copies for some people in my school district and some students hoping to be teachers someday. It was great! It provided some practical and exciting strategies that can be used in the educational setting. I am inspired to continue to find ways to support and improve public education in my community.

A good starter's book.
(From a PH.D. student in economics) Learning econometrics without knowing an appropriate statistics software is impossible nowadays. I've been searching for a book like this for a couple of years. If you are like me, you will agree it is almost impossible to find a book satisfying such a need. This maybe is the only book available now to combine the study of econometrics with a flexible computer software. You really don't have to have the textbook which this book is supposed to be used with. This book can be used with any basic econometrics text. Well organized. You will learn simple but fundamental econometrics hand in hand with efficient GAUSS programming. Besides, look how cheap it is! In economists' jargon, marginal benefit is way above marginal cost.

Help found in prayer ...
I found this book looking for a personal way to participate in the Roman Catholic Liturgy begun with attendance of the Sunday's Eucharist. It is a condensed easily accessed Office similarily patterned to that found in "The Book of Common Praayer" though identified as being in the Catholic tradition.
It's Office is organized around a seven day calendar, including both morning and evening prayer and a common night prayer, with additions for special times of the church year, ie. Advent, Easter, Lent, Pentecost. This Office is ordered in such a way that it could easily be used in a communal setting. Also it contains prayers for times of special need from authors such as Thomas Merton and Lucien Deiss.
This is not a how-to-book but fills the need for those of us who are looking for a companion along the journey of private prayer.

The best book on evidence
My professor suggested this book and deemed it the "Bible on Evidence". I bought it and it is. A great book that will clear up many of your questions. If you don't understand what your law professor is saying, this book will make it clearer.

this book is a compelling and very understandable to comprehend. We read this book in our english class, and I was the part of Juliet. When I got the part, I thought to myself, "there is no way that I am going to be able to memorize ALL of the lines." Well the book made it easy and simple. Thanks.

Great short story
I really liked this book. It is very short (about 30 pages) so it is a great quick read. The author did a great job of researching this event and the book has some nice drawings as well as great photographs. The story itself is actually very interesting and has inspired me to read more of the genre (i.e Nevada/California history). I would highly recommend this book to people who live in the area or are interested in the topic.

The Old Meadow-Looked at Differentely
This book is a really cool book, produced by a very good author. It is about a dog, (Grubber) who's owner is going to be pushed out of his home by the council. He gets taken to jail, then rescued by a supposed rattlesnake. There are all sorts of twists and turns. Will the council push the old man out? Find out when you read this awesome book.

It got the job done
I thought this book sufficed, but wasn't fabulous. I strongly preferred Moore and McCabe's "Introduction to the Practice of Statistics" better than this book, although it didn't have a business slant to it. Moore and McCabe are certainly the way to go, though, for stats, if you have a choice at all.
