whoever asked what's true about truth?
each and every day we take the world in and we make a very crucial decision: is this or that true? is this or that false? and if we take a step further we might find ourselves using the word "why" more often than usual. Why is this true? how do i really know? This is exactly what Descartes is getting at with Meditations on First Philosophy. The first time I read it, I found myself re-reading again and again; underlining portions to make the very act of re-reading easier. One must posess maticulousness and great patience to truely envelop the concepts brought forth by Descartes in this work. If you read it not to understand what is behind truth and error, then read it to experience the drama and beauty that Descartes employs to present the logic that founds his conclusions. If you wish to explore what one man found when he asked, "how is it that we can distinguish between reality and dream, and why is it that humanity is plagued by error?", then you must immerse yourself in this book, and pay it the maticulous attention that it demands.

An excellent translation of Descartes' most famous book
This is the preferred choice of teachers and scholars seeking an English language translation of this central text of philosophy. Not only is the text extremely readable, this translation comes with an excellent introduction written by a highly regarded scholar in the field of Descartes scholarship. If you're looking for a first-rate translation of the Meditations (and a great introduction to the writings of one of the best philosophers of the early modern period), you can't go wrong with this choice. Although it is a little more expensive than some of the other available translations, I recommend it above all others.

Best Resume Help Book Ever!
This is the best resume help book I've ever read! Since I've held six jobs in the last 10 years, I've searched for ways to present my employment history in a way that will not EXCLUDE me from the interview process, and this book has the answer to that problem! Additionally, it shows, with concrete examples, how to write about your accomplishments in a way that will help capture interviews, not rejection letters. And, getting interviews is the whole point of the resume writing process, afterall.

If you need help making your resume stand out from the crowd, then I recommend you check out this book!

The best book about resume writing I have encountered
After browsing numerous books on the art of resume writing, I decided to give Mr. Marcus a chance, and ordered this book from Amazon.com. I was very pleased with my decision, which was a right one. The book not only explains how to put yourself in the best possible light despite various shortcomings, but explains in detail how to write the various entries of a resume, and why. The book also contains many creative suggestions that will make your resume stand out in a stack, and includes numerous examples that highlight the points made.

The best book for people with rheumatoid arthritis
I am a rheumatologist in private practice. I see many patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
I read Ms. Koehn's book and have recommended it to my patients. In fact, I took the dust cover off and posted it on my waiting room bulletin board with my recommendation to 'buy this book!' It is easy to read but with sufficient detail for the more sophisticated health consumer. It is a great reference source for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and for family members and care-givers of those with RA. The chapters on medications are particularly useful and well-organized. I like her general advice which is important to all people with chronic diseases, not only RA. Ms. Koehn tells us to be informed and to take charge of our own health care...

Excellent guide!
I found the read to be very interesting and informative. It's the first book that I've read which describes RA from such a personal and eloquent view. It is filled with vital information and facts. It doesn't concentrate on a medical treatment only - it takes exercise, attitude, and emotional wellness into account.

It's an excellent read and I would recommend it to anyone with RA.

The Riches of Bunyan (The Essential Christian Library)

"Big John," truly anointed.
The depth of understanding and the ability to put forth such complex ideas and doctrines in a 1600's backwoods preacher would have to be from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Later to find he was studied and read by C.H.Spurgeon sheds further light on this Spirit-filled man. AAM

The Glad Goodness of God
I never knew that Bunyan had done much writing aside from Pilgrim's Progress, but this collection from his many other writings makes me want to read all I can of his thoughts. The book opens with this thought: "No one can be happy or experience any goodness unless God communicates His own glad goodness, and nothing pleases unless it is a vehicle for God. God is the only good worth wanting." I found the rest of the book to be full to the brim of that same "glad goodness." I came away with a renewed sense of the joy and glory of God.

A RIVETING ROUNDUP OF ROUGHSTOCK RODEO -True West
A "riveting roundup of roughstock rodeo...readers will hail it as mighty worthwhile."- TRUE WEST

The spirit and tradition of the American west captured.
Roughstock:The Toughest Events in Rodeo joins a growing body of work by the photojournalist John Annerino that portrays the American western culture with a photographic passion and historical perspective. This book portrays "the cowboy" as a diverse and multiethnic persona not the traditional "Marboro Man" and conveys through his thoughtful and well researched essay that the traditional image was never in fact the case. Annerino's photographs show the action of the roughstock rodeo events and bring to life the men and women who participate in them. The images are full of action and the sense of danger and risks are coupled with an intimacy created by his use of light and in his portraits of the cowboys. There is a rhythm and dance to the photos that creates a timelessness to the action. The book is wonderfully edited and layed out and may be the author's finest work to date.

Sevenfold Work
Published in Paperback by Claymont Communications (1980)
Author: John G. Bennett
Amazon base price: $15.00
Used price: $9.99

In Search of Miraculous Balance
J. G. Bennett's later talks exude such a tremendous sense of personal insight and experience. Here, he shows us in a straight-forward way how likely it is that our spiritual program and search are likely lop-sided by personal bias and partial perception. He points us toward a more integrated approach toward personal transformation by leading us through exploratory examinations of seven "lines" or approaches to the spiritual life. The real deep insight, however, is the easiest to miss -- the discovery that until the Work itself takes us over and reveals Its wholeness within us, we cannot overcome the limitations inherent in our efforts.

A Masterpiece in spiritual education
One of J.G.Bennetts very best books, he shows us, how to work on
important 7 lines. We tend to work and study on one or a few lines, but usually we forget the "whole", and we become lazy in the sense, that we work where it is comfortable or easy for us.

Bennett is very direct in his work, so his books help utmost, to understand Gurdjieffs work from a different, and a very practical angle.

A must for anybody, who really is interested in any spiritual work, as long as it is serious.

Unger's Intricate Piece of Work
With an excellent array of notes explaining his decisions in translating the thirty-one chapters of Book One of Irenaes's Against the Heresies, Unger has produced an admirable and accessible scholarly edition. Any translation is simultaneously an interpretation, and Unger has elucidated his choices in a minute and clear manner. Moreover, his introduction is quite helpful in setting the scene regarding Irenaeus's audience, style, and purpose.

One line made me buy!
To anyone interested in reading up on the earliest of heresies, this is the book for them! Heresy is when a post-baptized Catholic, in Christ, turns from the original teachings of the Catholic church of Christ, and decides to accept the man-made doctrines of other denominations by excluding the Sacred Traditions of our fathers (appointed by Christ). The bible warns of man-made doctrines! Protestantism and it's branch offs, accepts man made traditions (ie. scripture only). In turning to these new, truly man-made doctrines, they have chosen to divorce the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that is Christ's. To be Catholic and then turn from it, is divorce. Protestants of course allow members to divorce and remarry. It's ironic that this is how their church was started. Rather than staying in the marriage and fixing it, divorce is chosen. However, Jesus promised HIS church to be one and united. For those in search of the real truth, the true Church of Christ, one needs only to search the history of the first actual, physical church of Christ to accept the Sacred value of the Catholic Church traditions. This book is just what the physician (Jesus) orders. Find out where the traditions came from and how Heresies began. In this book, Irenaeus proceeds to list the succession of the Bishops of Rome to his own day! He adds that "in this order, and by this succession, the ecclesiastical TRADITION from the apostles, and the preaching of truth have come down to us" I say, the study of Church history, is the end of Protestantism! Read! Your salvation depends on it!! The Catholic Church is the ONLY church NOT founded by a sinner! Do the research! Start here!

If you're a John Mills fan, you'll LOVE this book!
I've been a John Mills fan for at least 30 of my 43 years and own a copy of his autobiography, but this book takes you deep into the heart of his life and family. You'll feel as if you've been taken into the inner sanctum of the Mills family, almost as if you were sitting on Sir John's couch and invited to peruse the family photo album! Liberal anecdotes give you a guided tour of each page and each lovingly placed picture, so the sense of intimacy is incredible and touching.

Sir John's love for his children and his wife, Mary, shine through in a way that is hard to describe. You'll just have to buy the book and see for yourself!

Thank you, Sir John, for the gift of sharing a glimpse of your life, as well as your talents, with all of us!

BUY THIS BOOK
When I heard that Still Memories was going to be released in the US, I was ecstatic. This wonderful picture biography is absolutely adorable. Jonathan, the youngest of the Mills clan was cleaning out the attic of his parents home and found these wonderful photographs. This is the whose who of the cinema. It has wonderful pictures of the Mills children:.Juliet, Jonathan, and Hayley. I can't urge you enough to buy it. You won't be sorry! We must urge the Mills family to publish the VHS tape Moving Memories in the US. It would be another great seller.

The Stones of Venice (The Complete Works of John Ruskin - Volume 9)

Author: John Ruskin
Amazon base price: $98.00

an architecture page turner
This is an abridged version of the original 3 volumes, but a delightful book -- both for the opinions expressed and the wonderful pomposity with which they are presented. It's impossible not to learn about art and architecture from this book, but it also (perhaps not intentionally) makes Woody Allen's or Steve Martin's New Yorker pieces seem like downers. The man has no humility and there is no opinion other than his, yet somehow the clarity and vitality of his description allows you to continue reading. I was fortunate enough to pick this up in Venice, so I was able to search out his examples of the 5 worst buildings in Venice, and similar Ruskinisms.

this edition is abridged
I haven't read this yet, but I thought I would warn other buyers that this is not the full text of the Stones of Venice--it is abridged. J. G. Links seems confident that he has done so in an intelligent way; perhaps he will win me over...
