Some great Poems
The book is a collection of poems by Robert Frost. It combines the collections of A Boys Will, and North of Boston. Many of the poems were about nature, and love. I selected the book because I had read Robert Frost before and I liked his style, and I felt I could relate to some of the poems. Most of them had no riming scheme, and were written in sentences, or stanzas. There was one poem about Blueberries that I particularly enjoyed because I like picking them. I also liked it because some of the poems seemed to have a hidden meaning. I thought that Frost wrote discriptive ad imaginable language. I would recommend it to readers that are older than 13. I would also recommend it to readers who like reading about nature. And finally I would recommend it to anyone who has read Robert frost, and enjoyed his work.

Puritan Bookshelf CD (Volume Nine)

A Precious Legacy
The Puritan Bookshelf CDs is a wonderful collection of rare, out-of-print books written by the best preachers and theologians of the First and Second Reformations. This is a great way to get an extensive library of reformed books, lectures and sermons, for very little expense. All 32 CDs are packed with a wealth of wisdom and biblical instruction we don't often see today.

This ninth CD contains nine books by 16th and 17th century Reformers, and is the first in the series to include, along with the five books by contemporary covenanters, James Douglas' classic, "Strictures on Occasional Hearing: An Inquiry Into Song 1:7."

As I consider the many different denominations and variations on denominations in the church today, I wonder... is it biblically permissible for a Christian to visit and worship in any Christian church he chooses, regardless of its doctrine? Or are there stipulations in Scripture as to where he can worship? This book answers these questions and many more, with ample proof from the Scriptures and historical testimony. It is good, straightforward teaching of a long-forgotten truth.

"The Works of Robert Harris" is a collection of twenty-four sermons on the "Way to True Happiness" taken from Matt 5:1-12, and twenty-one other sermons on various texts. Some of these include "Of Newness of Heart" and "The Softness of Heart," both from Ezek. 11:19, and "A Remedy Against Covetousness," from Heb. 13:5. The sermons are well presented, setting forth clearly the truths contained in them. I really appreciate these sermons, preached so long ago, yet so relevant and convicting even today.

William Perkins' "The Foundation of Christian Religion," is an excellent primer for those who need to learn the basics. It is a brief book, very simply laid out in the question-and-answer format of a catechism. It expands on the six most important, basic principles needed to equip the reader to hear sermons profitably, and to know he is partaking of the Lord's Supper with a clear conscience.

"An Exposition of the Symbol or Creed of the Apostles," also by William Perkins, is a much more detailed work, where he expounds on the Apostles' Creed. His extensive treatment leaves no stone unturned as he studies every phrase of this beloved Creed, examining each word under the spotlight of God's Word.

What a precious legacy has been left to us by these godly men of the Reformation! How privileged we are to be able to sit at their feet and learn from their vast stores of knowledge and wisdom, the like of which is so scarce today.

This is only a small sampling of what's available on these CDs. If you would like to see the full listing for this individual CD (or all 32 CDs in this set) you may view the complete set of Puritan Bookshelf CDs in one place online, at Still Waters Revival Books. SWRB also lists a similar set of 30 CDs in their Reformation Bookshelf CD series.

The Book To Have If You are Just Starting Out In QI
I cannot say enough good things about this book! Peter J. Pecora and Fotena A. Zirps are two people who are always at the forefront of the child and family service quality improvement field and this book is no exception. Quality Improvement and Evaluation in Child and Family Services : Managing into the Next Century covers a lot of territory, but it is easy to understand and full of information. It is like taking a course on quality improvement that covers a little bit of everything step by step. It is informative and groundbreaking enough for the seasoned qi professional, and simple enough for people in child and family services who are new to quality improvement. It would also be a good book for executive staff who are trying to become familiar with the quality improvement process and understand how it can work in their agency. Besides focusing on child and family services, the book describes what corporate sector quality improvement is doing and how to connect it to child and family services. People are always borrowing my copy and many people who borrowed it, ended up buying their own copy.

Raising the Roof: Creating the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho

A must for architechture students on an alternative process.
Perhaps the most amazing this is that this structure, visible from the Pullman highway, cost less than one million dollars to build. What a bargain when one considers that this building does for the UI what three separate facilities do for WSU if one discounts the differences in the athletic conferences. This slim book details how Trus Joist Corp. of Boise, ID, coordinated engineers and contractors and built the largest indoor college facility in the nation using laminated veneer lumber and the TRUSDEK structural system developed by Trus Joist. Not only that, they did it within ten months after the bid was accepted, completing the project in time for the first home football game. The author, Peter T. Johnson, knows what he's writing about. He was once the CEO of Trus Joist and he writes: "I remember the day in 1974 when the University opened the sealed bids in Moscow, ID. That morning, having experienced many times the bid, award, construct cycle, I felt the customary anxiety that prevails between the offer and the acceptance phases, as one might await a marriage proposal." Of course the bid was awarded and thus begins the union. And like many marriages, there were some interesting dips in the road. Warping due to weather moisture and other causes was a major concern. Finally, the project was completed and dedicated on Oct. 11, 1975. Its name is officially the William H. Kibbe-ASUI Activity Center Dome. Kibbie is a former UI student and was a monetary contributor to the project. Once finished, the Kibbie Dome received recongition in the architecture and engineering fields world wide. Engineering News Record, Architectural Record, Forest Products Journal, Western Building Design, and other major magazines covered the building extensively. Articles about the structure were published in the Japanes and German languages. The project's most prestigious nod came when the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) awarded this impressive structure the ASCE Outstanding Structural Engineering Achievement Award for 1976 beating out a multi billion dollar mall project in New York State. In the last two decades plus, Palouse residents have come to take this awesome building for granted. "Raising the Roof" reminds us that great things can be accomplished with bold ingenuity and very little money, even in this 20th Century. I recommend this book to any and all architect students as well as those interested in local architectural history. Included are several beautiful photographs.

Religion on Capitol Hill: Myths and Realities

The Realities of religious rersearch
This book presents a unique approach to research on religious beliefs and behaviors. It is not new but for some reason it appears that this information was lost or ignored. Peer reviewed journal articles published a decade and a half after this book was available evidence an ignorance of this superior approach to the study of religion through surveys. Benson and Williams appear to understand more than most people what constitutes the psychological instantiation of religion. This allows an avoidance of culture bound terminology hence the culturally acquired answers that reveal very little. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in the scientific study of religion.
