Aptly Titled
Being an annual visitor to Colonial Williamsburg I was very thoroughly pleased with the extrodinary color photos of The Majesty of Williamsburg. This book is aptly titled and a wonderful addition to anyone interested in Colonial Williamsburg or 18th century America.

Outstanding Introduction to Authorship
Peter Sammartino writes an eloquent, concise view of the Shakespearean authorship question and the case for Edward DeVere, the 17th Earl of Oxford. I began my investigation into the authorship question here and I have now read virtually every book on the subject. This is a must read for all those interested in obtaining deeper meaning from the plays and the Sonnets. Highly recommended.

Witness the Constitutional Convention...
A More Perfect Union by William Peters (March 1987) was a truly outstanding book. The author's intent was to provide the reader a genuine feeling of what went on in the closed-door sessions of the Constitutional Convention back in the summer of 1787. Based largely on James Madison's voluminous notes, Peters deftly elucidates the critical debates and coalitions that formed around them. For example, one compelling passage shows just how close we came to tying voting rights to property ownership - a sure recipe for the death of the new nation.

This book is great drama and reads like a novel. As the nation outgrew the Articles of Confederation and struggled to move ahead, this incredible group of bright minds hammered out a new and imperfect form of government. In hindsight the reader can see the irony. By creating a system of government in which ambition is truly checked by ambition - the Framers did, in fact, create near perfection. Precisely because the power of our government is fragmented, the US has flourished for 226 years. No one governmental body or person can completely quash the constitutional rights of all. Therefore, our citizens are free to think, compete, argue, protest and pursue their interests.

This is history made real. An entertaining and informative read!

You Cannot Go Wrong With This Anthology!!!
With stories like "Ferryman" (Eric Brown), "The White Stuff" (Peter F. Hamilton & Graham Joyce), and "A Night on Bare Mountain" (Graham Charnock), anthologies don't get any better than this. My only quibble is with the experimental narrative "Thirteen Views of a Cardboard City"(William Gibson) which rounds out the volume with a whimper, not a bang. Otherwise, this is Hugo & Nebula territory.

A wonderful and creative introduction to papier mache!
Paper mache is *not* just covering a balloon with newspaper! I never dreamed of all the things you can do with it. This is a great book with projects that are inspiring, beautiful, and useful. This is a great craft because it's probably about the cheapest arty thing you can do - basically just cardboard and newspaper. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Excellent coverage of creative theatrical process....
This book covers the creative process of the staging of a major National Theater production of the Shakespeare classic "Antony and Cleopatra" one of the most difficult to stage of Shakespeare's tragedies......As played by Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench it was critically hailed. Tirzah Lowen follows the process of putting the production together and the directorship of Peter Hall in his last major production at the National.....This is a wonderful book for all who love Shakespeare and theater.

A highly enjoyable reading experience
Peter M. Pringle: Master Decoy Maker by William C. Reeve (Professor, Department of German, Queen's University) and organizer of a showing of Pringle decoys for the Canadian Decoy and Outdoor Collectibles Association in October 2001) is impressive and biographical study of the late Peter Pringle, a truly gifted decoy maker for duck hunting. Chronicling Pringle's life through his death in 1953, and following the fate of Pringle's effective and artistic creations through extensively researched text and enhanced with both color as well as black-and-white photography, Peter M. Pringle: Master Decoy Maker is a highly enjoyable reading experience, and is especially recommended reading for dedicated duck hunters and appreciative connoisseurs of the specialized art of decoy making.

Tender Gnomes
Fairyland is not always the most boyish of worlds. The Little Folk in Peter William Butterblow are welcoming to all, and are especially appealing to little boys. My six-year-old and two-year-old equally revere this beautifully illustrated book, and already have some of the sweet poems memorized. This is a cozy year-round favorite bedtime book.
