Great Parody! Also, a surprisingly good novel.
When I bought this book I was expecting nothing more (or less) then a good, fun, comic romp. I got that but more as well. This a very well written satirical novel that has great characters. Don't worry, you'll laugh, but the book is deeper than you'd expect.

Great book.
It gives a great deal of background information on public life during the times of the Bible. It gets into somewhat on how what gave Moses symbolizes what a Christian should do in his/ her life.

Salt Ecstasies
Published in Hardcover by Graywolf Press (1981)
Author: James L White
Amazon base price: $10.00
Average review score:

An under-rated, heartbreaking gay poet
James L. White died in 1981, shortly before the publication of this book, which collects his astonishingly moving lyrics. While the poems share in the period style of the Seventies -- the "Deep Image" poetics of Bly and Wright -- they have an emotional availabiliy that's uniquely White's. They're direct, tender, often desolate poems which opened new territory in American poetry, by offering us an out gay speaker whose sexuality in itself is not necessarily in the foreground of the poems -- White's gayness is completely assumed, available, but what is foregrounded is a whole range of emotional experience: longing, regret, self-loathing, tenderness. A stunning and enduring book

One of the best classic SF books I have ever read.
When I read this book I really enjoyed it. I read so many books that when I picked it up several months later and started reading, I read it again and enjoyed it as much as the first time I read it and added it to my keeper pile. In the future Ireland survives the dark ages to rule the world. They sponser the first starship to a new world but there are problems with religious beliefs and the behavior of some of the crew. When they reach the new world, these people are the last to leave the ship and diverted thousands of miles away from the colony. The struggle for survival and reaching the colony make for a great read.

Childhood Memories
I remember reading this story over and over in elementary school. It was a favorite for everyone in my class and would create fights over who got to borrow it from the classroom. One of my fondest memories of 2nd grade was performing a play of this story.

Good stuff
Now - this kind of manuals are few and far between, so get one before they run out.

I learned 2 "new" moves thanks to this book, and I think, that this is one of the better whitewater kayaking manuals around.
I would recommend it for anyone, who's serious about his/hers stuff, be it squirt- or playboating.

The lingo can be difficult at first, if you are not one of the baptised, but facts are hard nevertheless.
Instruction as a whole makes sense, but sometimes one needs the detailed illustrations, some of which will knot your brains while you try to figure what's going on.
Some of the moves can be hard to understand at first, especially if you're new in the sport, but it's worth it.

The Squirt Book : The Illustrated Manual of Squirt-Kayaking
This is an excellent book for beginning to intermediate squirt boaters or intermediate playboaters as many of the same techniques and principles apply to both. Learn about flow dynamics and how they relate to play/squirt moves. If you can find one of these in print, Buy It!

This Book of Starres: Learning to Read George Herbert
Published in Paperback by University of Michigan Press (1995)
Author: James Boyd White
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

An illumination for some, a deeper delving for others
White is an perceptive reader of poetry and theological reflections who has his own idiosyncratic but highly accesible style; all at the service of making George Herbert's poetry shine more brightly for others...not at all to stand in the spotlight himself. The "self-consuming artifacts" that Herbert constructs to effectively communicate religious truth and human uncertainty are well represented by White's own writing style, a steady candleflame that slowly and inobtrusively fades into the brighter dawn of Herbert's meditations rising into the reader's consciousness. I would recommend this book equally strongly for someone who has never heard of Herbert, or for a long-time lover of his poems and essays.
