Mondo Baltimore
A must buy for any Waters' fan, Ives' book provides much in depth information heretofore unavailable. The author interviews Waters at the subject's residence covering John's entire life. This comprises about 3/4 of the book. The remainder is interviews with surviving Dreamlanders and later actors and actresses who appeared in Waters cinematic canon. Additionally, many rare and unusual letters, stills, illustrations and ephermera are provided throughout the book from both Mr. Waters own collection and from the Weselyan University collection of Mr. Waters papers. Great fun and a essential addition to your bookshelf beside Shock Value, Crackpot, The Trash Trilogy, not to mention Divine's biography and the "witings" of Cookie Mueller. Selah!

Pretty as a picture
Despite, or perhaps because, the illustrations are somewhat stylised, but beautifully set with foliage and flowers, this book is a classic coffee table book (if the table has strong legs!). It will be purely by accident if it helps you identify birds you see (and will take up your whole knapsack if you took it into the field!) but it is a joy to turn through, sensuously, in front of a log fire, remebering those very days in the field and remembering how long birds have been on earth and how long we have watched them.
And, sacreligious as it may seem, at USD30, buy two and take one apart to frame and line the walls of your study.
A classic in every sense of the word!

excellant for a pre-reader...composition, production, values
This book, and others in the Paddy series, are perfect for the pre-reader. The ideas are fresh and well handled. The physical production of the book, including drawings, color, etc. etc. are all of the highest quality. My grandchildren (and I) enjoy them all. E.S.

A must-own for Johnny Eck fans.
This issue features a treasure trove for magicians and Johnny Eck fans. The cover photo of Johnny is the best I've ever seen. Featuring excerpts from a telephone interview with the man himself, along with Johnny's typewritten unfinished autobiography, Pandemonium Vol. 3 is the only place you can find so much Johnny information in his very own words. And Johnny was a consumate story teller: his words are a treat. Lavishly garnished with fabulous photographs -- from a darling shot of Johnny and twin brother Robert as babies in frocks, through a series of photos of rehearsals for the legendary "Miracles of 1937" sawing-in-half routine, to an elderly Johnny grinning on the front stoop of his Baltimore row home -- this issue is a treat for the eyes as well as the brain. If you can get a copy, by all means buy it.

This guide was absolutely brilliant!
This guide was just a perfect tool to beat Quake II for me. It reminds me so much of the Doom II Guide by Prima ; a lot of helpful strategy with a sense of Marine humor. I probably wouldn't have beaten the game without it. The add-on disk was awesome!

The Guide to Maine Flatwater.
This book is an absolute neccessity for anyone planning to do extensive flatwater paddling in Maine. The book divides maine into regions and then gives detailed descriptions of the most choice paddling spots in those regions. Each overall description entails a map of the lake, general decription of the lake (scenery, fish species, things to look for etc.), campsite reservation numbers if neccesary, and most important DETAILED DIRECTIONS. Unless you are confining your paddling to the southern region, most of the lakes will require driving on winding dirt logging roads that can confuse even the most seasoned forester(I know I was one). However with this book, I was able to find the put in with ease every time. Happy Paddling!
Race of angels : Ireland and the genesis of U2
Published in Unknown Binding by Blackstaff Press ()

thoughtful and literary with indispensible interviews
This work, which is also available as _Race Of Angels: The Genesis of U2_ (exactly the same, different publisher) aims to trace and muse on the experience of being Irish as reflected in the work of U2. As such, it is not an easy-read band bio, and is written at let's say college level. However, the long interviews, especially of Bono, cover material that is just not found anywhere else; U2's remarks here have an uncensored, just-between-Irishmen feel that is rare.
The book, as hard as it is to find, is an absolute must-read for anyone interested in U2's Irishness, in their literary/cultural connections, or in their spiritual history -- it's full of amazing insights on all three. Generalist fans of the band should, of course, look elsewhere.

A fascinating exploration of Wisconsin's Manitowish River
In River Life: The Natural And Cultural History Of A Northern River, naturalist and ecologist John Bates takes the reader on a fascinating and informative exploration of Wisconsin's Manitowish River. Packed with historical and environmental information, River Life carefully examines current ecological studies, draws upon fur trader journals and archaeological surveys, and is replete with Bate's own personal observations to vividly describe the "life" of this small northern Wisconsin river. River Life is enthusiastically recommended for students of natural history and river-based ecological systems, and would serve as an ideal template for similar historical and environmental accounts of other small to medium sized rivers throughout the United States.
