Best you can get for the topic of CPET
I am working as a research fellow at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and have direct contact with the authors of this excellent book. There are lots of results of original investigations by the authors, and I think they are the ones who know the most about this topic in the world! Almost all papers on CPET quote this book as a reference. If you are in the respiratory medicine specialty with interest in CPET, this is a must-read.

Quantum Kinematics and Dynamics (Advanced Book Classics)

A beautiful, highly advanced text on Quantum Mechanics.
Julian Schwinger was one of the greatest minds of our century. He learned, as I heard at one of his semminars, quantum mechanics by himself as he was about fourteen from the horse's mouth, that is, the great book of Dirac, "Principles of Quantum Mechanics". One could consider this book as built around Dirac's. It starts by introducing a pre-Dirac notation, symbols which represent measurements. These symbols "factor out" into Dirac's bras and kets when the system is in a pure state. The mathematical properties of these symbols, therefore, follow from the way quantum mechanics describes experiments. The dynamics is introduced through the use of an action principle, soon explicited in terms of continuous transformation groups whose infinitesimal generators include the observables. This action principle turns out to be a differential version of the now popular Feynman action principle, which introduced the concept of path integrals. Schwinger's book is a! barely explored mine of gold. Most of his ideas are there, waiting for you! I think this is the second most beautiful physics book I ever met. The first, of course, is Dirac's. I think Schwinger would agree with me.

here is a play that truly is a little miracle. the script is so honest and touching in a way that almost anyone can relate to. i just saw the production on broadway with jayne atkinson and woody harrelson and absolutely adored it. the whole cast has done wonders with these simple words that Nash has written. it was a delightful production and i urge everyone to read the script even if you cannot see a live production. you will love it!

An intense poet looks into the mirror and doesn't flinch
Cliched reviewers say, "you can't put this book down." In the case of poet Richard Hugo's autobiography, I found I needed to put it down occasionally. The book is so intense, so brutally truthful, that the reader has to take a break and walk away from it periodically, just a prize-fighter needs that break between rounds. Growing up on West Marginal Way with his grandparents in Seattle, going through his tour as a bombardier, his early life and eventual emergence as one of the top nation's best poets - and certainly one of the top poetry teachers - Hugo spares neither himself nor the reader. Although modern-day Americans are accustomed to seeing blood and gore on the TV screen, few are prepared for the concussive effects of Hugo's unflinching reminiscences. When the book finally is put down at the end, it stays with the reader, as does an admiration for the extreme courage Hugo took in putting all this down on paper.

the importance of responsibility
H. Richard Niebuhr's The Responsible Self is a classic in Christian ethics. Niebuhr argues that humans are neither simply 'goal seeking' creatures nor simply 'rule-following' creatures, but are 'responsive' and hence, responsible. We are 'answerers' who must first ask "What is going on here?" and then respond to that assessment with a 'fitting' answer. The importance of this short and readable work should not be underestimated. Niebuhr's approach spawned an interest in perspective and vision in ethics that is carried on by contemporary thinkers such as James Gustafson and Stanley Hauerwas.

Loving look back Biography of Father and Son. Unique!
I've met Jim Cortese & know his deep fondness for the subject. Although I read Wesley's Diary of Nelle's & his European trip, he really came to life in this book. So does Richard Halliburton! This unique insider's look into their lives & legacies is exciting reading for the Halliburton fan. The author tells the biographic account of Adventurer, Author, Lecturer Richard Halliburton through reminiscences of conversations with Halliburton's father, Wesley. Cortese does a wonderful job defending Richard Halliburton against old criticisms while introducing him to new generations. Much of what you didn't know is here. Every word Cortese wrote is true. If you are a Halliburton fan, get this book.

Newby shows how to emerge from crisis spiritually stronger.
James Newby has written a deeply personal guide to how to emerge from a time of personal crisis, which he aptly calls chaos, spiritually stronger. He shows us how a time of chaos can open us to greater spirituality, thus helping us to make a new order in our lives. This book is an eminently practical guide for those who have faced chaos, who are facing chaos, or who will face chaos -- and that includes almost everyone.

Intro to Science Dream
I am teaching Physical Science, an intro to science freshman course, at a high school in NH. I asked my students to find some information on who discovered the parts of the atom for homework. Most of my students didn't have much success with the internet, their science text book, or other text books. However, one of my students brought in this book. It had a full page on the information that I was looking for, plus other references on other aspects of the atom. The atom wasn't the only topic that I was impressed with. In general it contains an excellent, basic description of most fundamentals of science. For a teacher that is trying to find new ways of presenting information, it is truely a find. It is also a great companion for the student that might have a little trouble in the sciences. There are wonderful, full-color illustrations to accompany simple, yet well written and content filled text. In short, I was very impressed with this book. Not to mention the author was also involved in another of my favorite books "The Way Things Work". If I could require this book for my students, and reccommend it to all science teachers, I would.

Senator Thomas J. Walsh of Montana: Law and Public Affairs, from Tr to FDR

Real History, Well Done!
The late Len Bates has culminated a life-time of research with this biography of Thomas Walsh, senator from Montana and major political player in the first third of the twentieth century. This work fills a major gap in the account of this period, and speaks most directly to Progressive period and the 1920s, as well as to the surprisingly complex political history of America's Western states. Bates has no particular axe to grin, but confines himself to a measured, factual, but entertaining account that says much about the realities of reform and politics in American society Good history, well done!
