The Other Wife
The Other Wife written by Wanda Akorede was just fabulous. I read her book back in November was so surprised by the ending that I was left out in the cold. But then I stumbled back on to her book just last week. I had to just read it again I read it in two days. And know have been searching all over the place trying to find the sequel "Difficult Choices" to come to find out it hasn't been published yet is so deppresing. My mother knows her and going to find her number for me. I am going to say to her "please can get the sequal I'm really dying for it!"

The Other Wife, A Must-Have Addition to your Home Library
If you want to read an exciting, heartfelt love story with realistic characters, pick up a copy of The Other Wife. I guarantee you won't set it down until you finish the story!

I purchased a copy of a romance novel, The Other Wife, from author, Wanda Arrington-Akorede at an arts & crafts fair. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! I read the book in four days while commuting on the train and at home in the evenings - it was such an interesting story. I was entranced by the way Mrs. Akorede wove the tale of the relationship between an African-American woman and the African man she meets, loves and marries. After settling in Africa though, his African-American wife meets the African wife she knew nothing about. Mrs. Akorede is a remarkable storyteller who introduces her readers to the concept of polygamy and to the turmoil that results. She captures the emotions of her main characters, Janice, Femi and Lola, so well, you will feel as if you have stepped into their shoes.

I enjoyed it so much, I started telling everyone (co-workers, family, church members) about it because the author lives in the south suburbs of Chicago as I do and was named Author of the Month at Homewood Library in Homewood, IL. Mrs. Akorede told me she plans to publish the sequel, Difficult Choices, in the next year and hopes to publish the last part of this trilogy in the future. Write her & let her know her readers want to read the sequel, Difficult Choices, soon!!

A RARE FIND!
Just recently, I read OUT OF THE BOX, written by internationally acclaimed poet laureate and author, Wanda L. Harrell. It is my conclusion that many authors have one aim, to showcase their so-called $10 words. More RARE is the find of an author who has the ability to share her intelligence AND warmth of heart in a down to earth writing style. Get ready to experience one of those rarities when you read Wanda L. Harrell's novel, OUT OF THE BOX.

Arthur O. Thompson-USCG retired/Artist/Poet

READ ME...I'M GOOD!
As an author myself, I've noticed that every so often a novel hits the bookstore shelves with 'Read Me, I'm Good' written all over the cover. OUT OF THE BOX is one of those novels. It's about a subject that is all too familiar...a bad marriage that is going nowhere. OUT OF THE BOX is about one woman's courage and intestinal fortitude to do something about it.

Marla Harris Simmons, a middle-aged house wife, endured 20 years of her husband's controlling ways. When he announces he's having an affair, Marla feels forced to escape out of the box of her marriage, and enter a world of uncertainty.

If you read but one book this year, do yourself a favor and read Wanda L. Harrell's OUT OF THE BOX. You'll be glad you did. I know I was.

The Physics of Fullerene-Based and Fullerene-Related Materials
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (15 May, 2000)
Author: Wanda Andreoni
Amazon base price: $219.00
Average review score:

SCIENCE OF FULLERENE MATERIALS
The book consists of a series of articles on C60
research advances mainly across the chemistry-physics
areas. It is opened by a preface from Sir Harold Kroto
and his vision of C60 as 'multitalented molecule'
for the twenty-first century.

The first chapter written by W. Kratschmer deals with
historical, technical, and mechanistic aspects of fullerene
production. Then, a big block of three articles from J. E.
Fischer et al. concentrates on fullerene intercalation
compounds. Their first contribution discusses production,
characterization and solid state properties of the
intercalation compounds. The second article of the triad
is a comprehensive survey of structure and superconductivity
of alkali metal fullerides. Finally, the third contribution
from J. E. Fischer et al. reports other fullerides
(including intercalation compounds of C70) and
intercalated nanotubes.

Contribution by J. Fink et al. deals with experimental
studies of the electronic structure and properties of pristine,
intercalated, and endohedral fullerenes and heterofullerenes.
K. Prassides treats dimer and polymer phases in doped
fullerenes. The following chapter by H. Kuzmany and J. Winter
is a comprehensive description of vibrational properties
of fullerenes and fullerides. W. Andreoni and P. Giannozzi
discuss calculations of structural properties of C60
and its derivatives based on density-functional theory.
The chapter by M. S. Dresselhaus et al. surveys
important aspects and properties of carbon nanotubes.
The following article from S. G. Louie concentrates on
electronic behaviour of carbon and boron-carbon-nitrogen
nanotubes. The volume closes with a chapter from J-L. Hodeau
et al. on pressure studies of fullerenes.

The book represents a valuable contribution to the steadily
growing fullerene literature. In overall, it is a well
balanced physically-oriented cross-section through fullerene
science and it should certainly find its way to every
library in the field.

ISBN: 0-7923-6234-9

Physics of Fullerene-Based and Fullerene-Related Materials
Fullerene science remembered a triad of anniversaries
in 1995: 25 years since C60 appeared in the literature,
10 years since it was observed in the gas-phase, and 5 years
since it was prepared in macroscopic amounts as a solid
material. The triad was commemorated, inter alia,
at the NATO workshop which was included in the program of
the Enrico Fermi School and held in Varenna, Italy
in June 1995.

The book opens with a survey article from Kroto et al.
which places the events into a historical perspective
and links them with the contemporary research front. The
theme is further elaborated by articles from the other
three capital cities of fullerene science, written by
Smalley et al., Kratschmer and finally Huffman.
The four articles are combined into the first chapter:
Past, Present and New Horizons.

The words chemical physics from the title could
equally well read chemistry and physics,
as the following eight specialized chapters
indeed give a representative cross-section
of the present fullerene science. The individual
chapters are: Formation and Structural Growth,
Physical Properties, High Fullerenes and Endohedrals,
Exohedrals, Functionalization, Intercalated C60
Compounds, Carbon Nanotubes, Non-carbon Nanostructures.
Altogether 28 contributions expose the on-going
research in its width and vigor.

This is a valuable volume, well balanced scientifically
as well as geographically, relevant to basically any
subfield of carbon-cluster studies. The book, no doubt,
will find its way into the libraries of many fullerene
groups. The volume was published in the NATO ASI Series, E:
Applied Sciences - Vol. 316, and it has altogether 498 pp.

Wonderful
In an era of neo-Shamanism and cold-hearted anthropology, it is very nice to see an increase in books where the authors are both practitioners and scientists. Shanar is quite impressive. The ritual appears authentic, the photographs are remarkable, and the text is quite intriguing.

If you're the type who wants to have Shamanism presented in a non-threatening, non-cultural, easy-to-digest-as-a-Westerner, fluffy New Age way ... this isn't the book for you. This is a ride through a very important ritual and thru the Buryat culture. The average Western reader isn't going to understand everything on the first pass - and it isn't about perfection. Its about Human beings trying to connect with their ancestors and the Spirits of their world. Its a serious business.

Because the authors are well versed in Shamanims themselves they tend to treat the ritual with honor and respect.

This is not a how-to book of Shamanism, it is a chance to see the real thing in action. Five stars seems too few.

Describes all of the various aspects of the ceremony
The collaborative effort of Virlana Tkacz, Sayan Zhambalov, and Wanda Phipps, and filled with a wealth of 175 gorgeous, full color photographs, Shanar: Dedication Ritual Of A Buryat Shaman In Siberia accurately depicts the dedication rituals, rites, and ceremony of a Buryat Shaman in Siberia. The informed and informative text describes all of the various aspects of the ceremony in wondrous, heartfelt, and painstaking detail, which combine to fully capture and present the this sacred rite with all respect and an appreciative humility. Shanar is a very highly recommended contribution to Comparative Religion and Anthropology reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

A Wonderful Listen
I have listened to this audio book several times with my two young children. Not only is the song universal, but also the message. This audio book lets adults and children know that any pain is a signal that some self-work needs to be completed and, if we let our intuition take over (listen to our gut), we will gain guidance from above and our questions will be answered.

Highly Recommended
A wonderful mixture of childhood memories with a powerful message for dealing with pain in life.

The missing link in education
This book fills a big lacuna in education. It is not enough to talk about love. Lucky are the parents and teachers who now have such lesson plans to teach children and adolescents in an active and fun way to develop their inner resources to become loving and geuninely caring, without overcare. The three basic HeartMath tools of HEART LOCK-IN, FREEZE-FRAME and CUT-THRU and numerous interpersonal skills are taught through the activities. [Please confer my other reviews of Doc Childre's books, starting with Cut-Thru.] I have been recommending this book to hundreds of parents, school-heads and teachers and have heard of very favorable responses. The HeartMath materials will certainly have much to contribute to humankind.

Teaching Children to Love
I feel I must begin this review by letting readers know that I do have a close association with HeartMath and Doc Childre in that I co-authored another book, The HeartMath Solution with Doc. With that said I still feel compelled, whether somewhat biased or not, to share my perspectives about Teaching Children to Love.

Doc puts great emphasis on the need to better educate children in the area of mental and emotional self managment. The 80 games and activities he developed for this book do excatly that. The games are intelligently organized, easy to teach children and they are effective. For anyone who works with kids, whether it be a parent, grand parent or child care provider, I can safely say that this is as good a resource as I have seen for helping young people develop the skills they need to navigate these challenging times. It was created from care and it shows.

Very heartwarming - teaches kids the importance of family
My children and I love this book. It is so heartwarming to read about Wan and Dona and their love for each other and their mother. This book has everything - a great story and humor that children will enjoy and underlying moral tones that parents will appreciate. I can't wait to read more books by these authors to my children.

Love it!
I have identical twin daughters (3 years old) and bought this book to read to them. They love it and ask me to read "Wan and Dona" all the time. It's a cute book about their special twin relationship and their relationships with others (mother, grandfather, puppies, etc.). The book is set in Minnesota and we live in Minnesota so it has even greater appeal. I would highly recommend this to anyone with twins, although it doesn't even have a huge focus on the fact that they're twins so it would be great for all kids! I can't wait for the rest of the series.

Hard-Working Heroine
Wanda is a real heroine -- a girl who works hard in the face of big odds. Yet, Wanda is also the kind of heroine who helps us think we can be heros, too. She relies more on creative invention than fantastic luck. The idea of growing roses in a vacant lot is both beautiful and realistic. The illustrations convey the eccentric colorfulness of the story's characters and ideas.

I like the pictures and how the story was written.
I liked the book because it was a good story. Some people may not believe Wanda that her bush would not grow roses. But, Wanda believed it. The book made me laugh. The pictures are the kind that kids like because they are cartoonish and colorful. By Rachel grade 4
