Interracial romance worth reading
This book was good. The characters were good and so was the story line. I liked how Henrico never gave up on Jacci. He really loved her. I especially loved how he courted her on the ship. This was a quick two day read for me and worth every min. I suggest this book to picky interracial romance readers.

Truly Romantic
I didn't think I would like this book, which I came upon by accident; however, I enjoyed it immensely. Passion's Journey is the story of a 30ish woman of African American descent, Jacqueline Tyler, who has problems in dealing with her own racial identity. You see, Jacqueline is the product of a mixed marriage (white grandfather). In the past she had problems fitting into the Black race because of intraracial prejudices. Black girls felt she was too light to be Black.

Out of the blue, she meets and falls in love with 30ish Italian American businessman, Henrico Augustini. Jacqueline really doesn't want to be in love with a man who is not African American (she wants a chocolate brotha' so that her children will have no doubts in knowing who or what they are). This is part of her problem. She's so determined to marry a "brotha" that she's willing to accept anything, just as long as he's the right color. However, she finds she can no longer fight the attraction she feels towards Henrico. He won't allow her to do so. Henrico knows from the first time he set eyes on Jacqueline that she would be his wife.

Despite present and future complications which Jacqueline knows she'll have to face(objections from family and friends), she gives in to him. On the one hand, she didn't expect to get the type of reception she received from Henrico's father, Nicholas, who goes out of his way to make those objections known. In addition to that, there is a jealous boyfriend whose ego is bruised because he feels she chose a white guy over him, and insists on making her life even more miserable.

Henrico, despite all the complications, makes up for all the bad things that are taking place in Jacqueline's life. I loved the way his character was written for we get a great deal of insight into how deeply his love for Jacqueline runs. Despite her many misgivings, he doesn't allow her to give up on them.

One of the Best of the Genre
I have read them all and this one is one of the best. While the other reviewers gave you excellent details of the story, I just want to give you the reasons why it is one of the better ones in this genre.
I liked it because Henrico was romantic and persistent when it came to his love for Jacqueline, but the author also gave us a sense of his innocence with regards to the obstacles that they would face as an interracial couple. On the other hand, Jacqueline was clear about those issues and eventually recognizes her ability to love him regardless of his race and to stand up to those who could not deal with their relationship.
The author dealt with these issues, but not to the extent that they distracted you from the romance of the story. A cruise, a chance meeting between a beautiful woman and and wealthy knock-out of a man...how could this miss? It is a charming evening's read. I highly recommend it.

Moderately Amusing
This was a moderately amusing first novel by G.M. Ford. It was entertaining and fast paced, but it felt a little too much like a "made for TV" movie. There are some funny scenes, but I thought a lot of it was just silly.

You will get a pretty good sense of Seattle and suburbs, and Waterman is an interesting PI. But there isn't enough here to have me rush out and get the next in the series. There is too much better stuff out there. I recommend this only if you are an avid reader of the "hard-boiled PI" genre.

Somewhat Disappointing
This novel introduces the occasionally amusing Seattle detective Leo Waterman and his posse of down-and-out assistants. The book is a fairly quick read and the mystery is mildly engaging, but the characters are not all that believable and the dialogue is neither interesting nor (for the most part) amusing. Those expecting an amusing mystery novel (see Hiassen instead) will likely be disappointed. This book rarely elicited a chuckle and is often outright boring. Not on par with John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee novels in either story or style, but similar in the overall feel as far as mystery novels go. This book can be recommended if you're looking for a quick, easy read. Otherwise, track down MacDonald, Hiassen, or van de Wetering.

What a hoot! :D
I realize this is more of a "me-too" review than any particularly earthshattering revelation about the plot or the author, but as I sit here laughing just thinking about the story, all I can say is "me too"! From Ford's name to his characters (and you'll HAVE to smile when you discover Wanda!), his books are just FUN -- yes, drama, intrigue, suspense, but there's this undercurrent of a man who most of us probably would love to be at least at some point in our lives. In any case, while it's not a great masterstroke of literature, if you're looking for some entertainment for your reading time and money, pick up Wanda. You won't be sorry! :D

She's got skills
This was an awesome first seller. I really enjoyed it because it had such great detail that it made my imagination run wild. I fell in love with Derrick and could relate to Katrina because she is so passionate about dancing and so am I.This book showed me that no matter what trials and tribulations that you may go through that trouble don't last always and love will also overcome all, as long as it is meantto be. Thanks for the good read Wanda Toby. I'll be anticipating the next book because she's got skills!!!!

I loved it
"Count it All Joy," was truly an amazing literary work. Personally, as a youth I loved to crawl up in a good book everynight. However, with the entrance to highschool and college I never had the time or enthuasiam to invest my time in reading materials outside what was required. It's summer and your book was the perfect remedy for my discouragement. Berly was right, it took me less than 4 days to read it. Once i got past the first couple of pages, hours would go by before I could remove my head from the book. I wanted to thank you for basically giving me back the desire to read more books of such essence. Your book was inspiring and I'm looking out for your name and titles when I hit the book stores in a frantic search for quality material. The characters truly portrayed the various personalities that our society posesses. Everyone has a friend like Roselyne, and derrick is the guy all mothers and daughters pray to God about to deliver in front of our door steps. Katrina definitely could relate to all types of females; despite her serious issues, I enjoyed taking the passenger seat besider her throughout her journey. Best of luck in your future projects. Let me know if you need an assistance proof reading (cause lord knows i found some gramatical errors,) or promoting your current and future projects.

I almost lost my job!
I almost lost my job reading this outstanding book. I started late one evening and did not put it down until dinner time the next day. I had to call in sick because I cold not bear to tear my eyes away. Derrick and Katrina are wonderful and real. It is great to see that two people overcome despair. Everyone needs to read this down to earth novel. I can't wait for the next book from this new and definitely shining author.

Good but tricky
The recipes in this cookbook use exciting, distinctive ingredients. But if you look to the recipe instructions to tell you how to cook them, you will be in the dark. The instructions are misleading, confusing, and incomplete. However, if you know how to cook, that is, if you are an experienced chef, you will be able to make wonderful dishes from the recipes.

great recipes from a very good restaurant
If you like to cook and you want authentic Southern Italian cooking (compared to the Tuscany inspired cooking that has been all the rage), then this is absolutely the best cookbook you can buy...with the possible exception of the Tornabene's new cookbook, which I am just about to buy. The recipes are pretty easy to follow, but most require either a fair amount of prep or some time to stir the pot. The pasta dishes are fantastic. My family loves the fava bean recipes (I cooked one as a joke in honor of Silence of the Lambs, but it was a hit, so I've been making them ever since) and the anchovy tomato sauce. I love this cookbook so much that I actually made the trip to the restaurant. It's not a place you get to by accident, you really have to want to go because it is way way out in the middle of Sicily. But the food there is excellent, and I was lucky enough to eat things familiar to me from the cookbook, as well as some new dishes. I'm not sure I'll ever try any of the desserts in this cookbook (too much work) but I've eaten some of them at their restaurant - and I can recommend them highly!

P.S. If you decide to make the trek, I recommend that you stay at their hotel. The grounds of Gangivechio are lovely and worth enjoying on their own.

Excellent, easy pasta recipes
This is one of my most frequently used cookbooks (and I have a lot of them) just for the pasta section. The recipes are simple enough to use for everyday, and good enough to use for company. The ditali with spinach, the rigatoni daniela, the arugula and fresh tomato sauces, the zucchini pasta sauce---all are easy, draw raves from guests, require no special ingredients, and taste like the wonderful pastas I had in trattorias in Sicily. The risotto recipe is the best I've ever used; the salads are also good; the desserts and main dishes are mostly too complicated for daily use, or for any but the experienced cook.

THE CHECKLISTS ARE WORTH THE PRICE ALONE
While I didn't actually get any practicle directing techniques from this kit, I wasn't actually looking for any either. Anyone who thinks they can learn to direct from a book, shouldn't be directing in the first place. The kit has several checklists and forms that are a great resource for the new and more experienced director. It also serves as a solid outline of what is or should be involved with directing. It won't teach you how to direct, but then again, that's not the intent.

I wish....
I wish someone had recommended this book before I directed half a dozen musicals and learned its contents the hard way...trial and error. While the information is largely common sense, the organization saves the time of having to figure it out yourself. I recommend it highly...especially for school and community theatre.

Everything a director needs to know gathered in one place.
I discovered this book through a fellow theatre professor and was immediately impressed with its scope of information. So impressed, in fact, that I'm planning to adopt it as the textbook for an advanced directing course I teach that culminates with the production of a one-act play.

The authors have covered everything a director needs to know, from selecting the play through rehearsals, peformances, and marketing. This book would be especially helpful for high school/community theatre directors, or those in similar situations where the director is expected to assume some of the responsibilites usually handled by a producer. (The sample forms are especially good for these organizations.)

Although not a substitute for a more thorough book on the pure basics of directing (blocking, composition, etc.), this is an excellent supplement that reviews those basics and enhances them with elements that often aren't covered in directing classes but are faced in production (putting together program copy, for example). Although I've been directing professionally for over 12 years, I immediately ordered a copy for myself after examining it.

Computers/Internet coverage a disappointment
This review will seem unnecessarily critical, but I want to do what I can to help churches avoid wasting money -- there are too many folks with no scruples about charging a church whatever they will pay. I do some pro bono computer consulting for my parish (Trinity, Lime Rock, CT), and bought this book in hopes it would get me current with specific uses churches were making of the Internet. Sad to say, the book's coverage of computers and the Internet was minimal. The chapter entitled "Computers -- An Effective Tool in Ministry" covered pages 203 - 210 inclusive -- out of a total of 287 pages. Of these seven pages, two were glossary. Although I did like one metaphor -- "E-mail is the FAX machine of the '90s" -- and will probably use it elsewhere in my practice -- there was little other information of use to me. I noted a piece of misinformation. On page 204, the average cost to have a web site hosted was identified as $100 - $150 per month. Last evening, while looking for web hosting for a commercial client of mine, I found at least 50 companies who would host a site of some sophistication for $10 or less per month. Indeed, I found very few that charged more than $75 per month! I also noted the description of the church with its own server and eight modems (each with a phone line) to accomodate an on-line prayer circle. While this may have been both innovative and cost-effective when set up, the same functionality (on-line conferencing) is available today via any of the "Instant Messenger" services on the Internet for FREE -- no server, no modem pool, only the Internet connection for each participant. To move away from defects, I suspect this book will be of much use to people involved otherwise in church communications. Even the short chapter on computers may be of some use in introducing a non-computer-literate rector or pastor to computers and the Internet in a non-threatening context. But be aware: computer/Internet costs can be FAR lower than the book suggests. And, if you're already computer-literate and looking for specifics on how to apply computers and the Internet to communications in your parish, you can safely drop the price of this book in the collection plate instead of buying the book.

It's filled with splendid ideas and suggestions.
Although this paperback has a modest price, its 300 pages add up to a valuable resource -- a pearl of great value -- for ministers, staff members, and other persons with varied leadership roles in local churches. The book shows how to develop an overall plan and provides ample examples of ways farsighted churches are communicating effectively with their members and ways they are reaching the unchurched. It gives solid advice on advertising, media relations, and use of websites, e-mail and other offspring of electronic technology. Contributing to the five-star quality of this book are its checklists and forms to keep track of progress.

Texas Wildfire by Wanda Owen
Tony had no time for spoiled, wealthy Amanda. But when her innocent blue eyes haunted his days he knew he had to take her and satisfy his desire. She never dreamed that they would be caught in the flames of love.

Their love exploded in fiery splendor!
Golden haired Amanda was as wild and beautiful as the Texas countryside where she was born. And though she was courted by every rancher in the country, none could win her heart. She wanted a real man, an independent man, a man who could teach her the delicious secrets of passion, a man named Troy Branigan. When he crushed her in his arms, explored her velvet flesh, ecstasy rose in her veins like slow liquid fire. Her body knew that he was the only one capable of taming her spirit but her mind knew that he was much to dangerous to love...

Rugged, handsome, experienced in the ways of pleasing women, Tony had no time for spoiled, wealthy Amanda. But when her innocent blue eyes haunted his days and her full sensuous lips taunted his nights, he knew he had to take her and satisfy his desire. That she was arrogant and flirtatious just made him crave her more. He would show her what happened when she teased a Texas man-never dreaming he'd be caught in the flames of her Texas Wildfire.

This poetry don't play
This book is actually two: 1979's "Mad Dog Black Lady" and the 1990 "African Sleeping Sickness". Both are incredibly powerful collections of poetry (with some stories), and the sheer volume of work contained here (328 pgs, with almost a poem for every 2 on average) is almost enough to make you OD on poetry. The work is strong stuff, with stories of love, sex and danger throughout, and Coleman's voice is so hardcore compelling you don't know if you should read the bok or run from it.

Captures the biting energy of her short stories in poetic form. Wow.

Fascinating
A fascinating book on an extraordinary life. Alice Pike Barney (1857-1928) was an artist of considerable talent, a socialite with considerable conscience. She was loved by Henry Morton Stanley, but spurned him. She married unhappily twice, but flourished as a widow and divorcee. Her Studio House and Sylvan Theater still grace Washington, but she left for Hollywood in the 1920s and died there. Jean Kling's book has good prints of her art, an insightful account of her life. I recommend it.

this text hasn't included solutions manual that's big trouble for student

Missing major material
This book was required for my accounting class. It seems the have the holes of Swiss cheese though. While it probably covers the basics of Financial Accounting as well as any other book, it lacks some things that I thought would be entirely useful. For example only the odd exercises have the solutions in the back. Maybe it's just me, but I expect all since I'm in college. Furthermore, despite the copyright date of 2002, this edition contains a lot of old material. It lists Market Capitalization information about Microsoft from the spring and summer of 2000, the peak in stock prices. Also in the first chapter it speaks of accounting ethics and references a speech made in 1998 by the chairman of the SEC. It makes no mention to the scandals of Enron, WorldCom etc. (Enron declared bankruptcy on Dec. 2, 2001.) This edition appears to be just a desire by the authors to put out a new edition to limit the used book trade of the 7th edition and make more money for the authors.
If you can avoid it, do not buy this edition new.

Super Service
Very fast delivery. Book was in brand-new shape.
