Excellant companion book for practice development
This book is written in an accessible and practical format. It assumes nothing but at the same time treats the reader as an intelligent participant on the journey to understanding evidence based practice.

It is up to date and I was especially impressed with the web address it gives to ensure the reader is kept abreast of any changes since publication.

It systematically explains the need and use of 'evidence', how to find it (the search advice is comprehensive and includes details such as search terms and the best search engines aswell as web addresses) how to evaluate it and also how to act on it.

All in all this book was great, and I would reccomend it to anyone involved in evidence based healthcare practice as it will guide you through the thorniest problems.

as inventors go...
Perhaps more detail has been written about Tesla, than his arch rival, Thomas Edison. The former was in the real sense, an inventor, while Edison, for all intent, was a tinkerer; that is, he took objects and concepts and made them better or workable. Sure, we have all heard about the Phonograph, and the Electric light bulb that Edison made workable, but most accounts summarize his dealings rather than scrutinize them.
The Authors of this book, wrote a highly detailed scholarly account of the 'inventor' Edison, in a way few other authors have ever accomplished.
As for the Tesla/Edision rivalry, I think it fortunate that Tesla won over the world with A/C electric Current rather than Edison's D/C; makes for less electrocutions in the home. Perhaps, fate was that all these inventors and tinkerers were at bat together, but I sometimes wonder what would have happened had they been spread out a little so that more detailed notes could have been made of their work and contribution.

Estimate faster with accuracy
A construction estimator needs to be fast and needs to be accurate. This book is a collection of formulas and tables which will aid an experienced estimator in achieving both goals in eaqch estimate. For example, one group of tables directly converts floor area to interior surface. I measured the lineal feet of interior wall and perimeter in a complex home, and extended to measure the total wallboard requirements. Then I looked up the results of this book's table for the type of structue, which was within three percent (3%) of my measurement.

Then I compared the book's table result for exterior sidewall quantity with my measurement of stucco. The table came within one-half percent (0.5%) of my direct measurement.

The book will not substitute for experience and practice. It will add speed to the experienced estimator's work. It will provide a double-check for accuracy. I recommend it to any home builder or architect, whether using the latest computer systems or "green paper" for estimating.

If You Love Lighthouses
This book is for lighthouse lovers that are living in or interested in lighthouses of Florida. The book lists all the lighthouses and gives a brief history. Each lighthouse has a fact list and there are also directions on how to get there. Fees for entering the lighthouses and museums are also listed. This is a great book if you are planning a trip such as we are this summer. The only thing lacking is a good map of Florida showing the locations of the lighthouses. There is a map in the front of the book but it is too small and needs to be larger.

THE WRITER AND THE MAN
A wealth of information! A fantastic book for anyone who loves Hardy's poems, short stories or novels and wants to know more about the man behind the pen. Much of the book's merit is in its lay-out. Each in the series of thirty-two chapters relates to a single work providing a wealth of penetrating insights into both biographical and literary facts (Hardy's passion for Greek tragedy, Latin poetry, Shakespeare, his interest in architecture and work as an architect, his marriage) - and how closely these were intertwined. Throughout the book there is a compelling sense of how compulsively Hardy the man worked to develop the extraordinarily creativity of Hardy the writer. A wide ranging and scholarly book that is wonderfully informative and never, ever dull.

The ultimate authority on the LUSITANIA controversies
Arriving on shelves over twenty years ago, this collaborative work by Paul B. Ryan and Thomas A. Bailey is a comprehensive, in depth reference. Although lean on illustrations, it is full of important information on the many controversies surrounding the loss of the LUSITANIA in 1915. Conspiracy theorists beware: here is undisputable evidence that the sinking of the LUSITANIA was not the result of a setup. For anyone who wants the truth behind the LUSITANIA disaster, here it is - time tested and proven.

Great look at modern Paper Art.
After looking through endless craft books on paper craft and not finding anything inspiring, this book appeared. It has great photograqphs and telling crtiques my the two editors and short blurbs from the artists regarding their works. It's stylish and modern and wonderfully artful. There are no how-to's in this book, it's simply a great collection of pieces from an overlooked art form.
