I thought that A way thought the sea was an excellent book. I thought it was one of the best books I have read in a long time it was exciting,adventurous and interesting. I have read other book by Robert Elmer and I thought thay were great.

My children and I very much enjoyed all 8 books in this series. Although the escapades that Peter, his sister Elise, and friend Henrik get themselves into are far-fetched, my children very much enjoyed these books and did not want me to put them down until we'd finished reading 'just the next chapter.' I was pleased with the historical references and the epilogue that would relate the book to the actual historical background that it was based upon. I chose the books, originally, because of the author's dedication to remembering his Danish heritage, which we also share in, and for its sound Christian ideals.

A great book, Peter and Elise help their Jewish friend Henrick get to sweden. Good for adventure lovers, WWII nuts, and everyone else!

Greek Gods And Heroes consists of many, fine detailed stories which are very easy and fun to read. Robert Graves tells some of the best tales in such a fun way and yet you are still learning about the Greek myths. I think Robert Graves is a fine author!

I was looking for a book that had a collection on certain Greek myths one day and I happened to stumble upon this book. Robert Graves here put together a collection of Greek myths in his own retelling and this book makes for a fun read. In addition to the fun that this book brings there is also a lot of basic information on Greek mythology to be learned, such as the Olympian Gods and monsters of the ancient myths. Whether the book is enjoyed slowly by reading one story and reading another at a later time or gobbling it up all together you will still get a lot of fun and information out of it.

A lot of the basic stories that have come out of Greek mythology are retold here in a simple and easy to read format. Stories such as Heracles' (Hercules), the birth of the God Hermes, Perseus', and many more can be found here. This book combines the politics, mystery, and magic of the ancient Greek world. Of the twenty seven stories that are told in this short little book my favorite is definitely the story of Heracles. I enjoyed reading about how he was able to perform the feats that were given to him to gain his freedom as his story shows how in the end you can always manage to do something that you set out to do.

While reading this book you will notice how the huge cast of characters interact with one another. Many are against each other, many are involved in a love affair, and others team up with each other to defeat other characters. It is interesting how our world today mirrors the mythological world of the ancient Greeks. A lot of people today do the same things that were done by the characters in the stories of the book.

Robert Graves' knowledge of the Greek myths is absolutely astounding. It is obvious upon the reading of this book how much research, time and effort went not only into writing this book, but also into gaining the basic facts which make the stories. In the introduction Graves writes how many things that are in today's world were derived from the ancient Greeks, like astronomy, literature, and medicine. When you read the book keep an eye out for the things of the Greeks that we use today.

I will be reading many of the stories in this book that I have enjoyed again and again in the future. This is a great introduction to the basics of Greek mythology and are great stories for bedtime.

The main Greek myths are here, told briefly and unsentimentally in crisp English. Most of the tales are 2-3 pages in length.

There are other books on postcolonialism, but this one stands head and shoulders above them. Unlike other postcolonial writers, Young does not treat postcolonialism as one long ideological debate. All the ones I've read tend to focus on the ideas of Fanon, Said, Spivak, Bhabha while ignoring the social movements and individuals whose struggles against colonialism make the discussion possible. Actually, Fanon is the exception here, but that only proves the rule. Young traces the rise of anticolonial movements and ideologies and their development into postcolonialism. As Young shows, the anticolonialists of the early 20th century didn't simply provide a starting point for later thinkers, but took positions which are still influential today.

Young is the only author I've seen who even broaches the role of the Comintern. He does and excellent job portraying the Comintern's attempt to develop a coherent policy towards anticolonial struggles without glossing over its contradictions. Young also expands his scope to include those not ususally discussed in studies of postcolonialism: Mariartegui, Cabral,Cesaire, even James Connolly. My only disagreement is with his assessment of Gandhi. Young puts forth a creative interpretation of Gandhi's tactics and their effects, particularly in destabilizing meanings. I, however, disagree with the idea that such tactics led to the liberation of India, but that's a whole other discussion.

Overall, this is an excellent introduction to the topic which covers far more ground than any other book in the field.

This book is completely different in scope from any other introduction to postcolonialism. There is no other book that compares with it. What is innovative about 'Postcolonialism: An Historical Introduction' is the way in which Young for the first time traces, in great detail, the historical origins of post-colonialism to the anti-colonial movements. He shows how the earliest of these began in Europe itself during the times of the great imperial expansions, but were then superseded by indigenous movements which were particularly inspired by the appearance of the first state dedicated to the overthrow of western imperialism, Bolshevik Russia.

Young demonstrates, however, that what was characteristic of these anticolonial movements was the way in which they integrated Marxist critiques of colonialism with their own specific local cultures and social conditions (particularly, in the case of many colonies, the impoverished lives of the landless peasantry). In three brilliant chapters, Young shows how the situation in India was markedly different from that of most other colonies, particularly as a result of the influence of India's foremost anticolonial activist, Gandhi. This different history, he suggests, partly accounts for why much of contemporary postcolonial theorising has emerged from India. In a fascinating chapter on the role of women in the anti-colonial movements, Young argues that in many ways postcolonial theory has elaborated revolutionary ideas first developed by subaltern women activists during the colonial period.

Overall, this made me rethink my whole attitude to postcolonialism, showing me how it is fundamentally the product of over a century of 'third world' political activism that has been engaged in rethinking as well as contesting the ideologies of western dominance. It is striking that while there are many books on colonialism and imperialism, this is the first book to provide a history of the anticolonial movements and to analyse their achievements. One long-term goal of many anti-colonial intellectual-activists was to revolutionise thinking in the academy - a process that is now on-going through the intervention of postcolonial theory itself.

This book shows both the advantages and disadvantages of the survey approach to postcolonial studies. As an overview it a valuable introduction to the historical impact the various forms of imperial rule and its aftermath had in a wide variety of locations but the best studies concentrate on one specific location at a time. Postcolonial theory is also best understood in specific context as each regions history largely determines the theory that has grown within and been responsive to its specific circumstance. Thus theory as practiced in West Africa is sharply distinct from that practiced in the Caribbean or India. The comparative survey form has the advantage of being in the best position to register global movements and historical shifts but also presents the danger of reenacting colonization by presenting a collection of exotic settings and circumstance for study in the academic setting which leads to some of the criticism of postcolonial studies and theory in particular as radical chic, ie refashioning the third world in terms that make it interesting for consumption by western intelligentsia. Recent work in the field presents an additional danger of giving the postcolonial the postmodern treatment, a convenient alliance of posts which may serve the academic communitys need for perpetual reformulation, but a perilously reductive approach. Good completely competent introduction, though there are at least four or five other choices in this category which cover the same ground.

"Rovering to Success" is the original handbook written by Baden-Powell for Rover Scouts, the most senior section of the Boy Scout Movement. Rovers are Scouts over the age of 18 (in Canada the mandate is age 18-26). This book is NOT intended for children aged 9-12.

Rovering to Success is probably not meant for readership in the age group of 9-12 as indicated. It is intended for Young Adults ages 17-25 (though age group for rovering varies with region and countries). It is a fundamental reading for all Rovers and aspirants. Should also consider reading "Scouting for Boys" and "The Man who lived Twice".

Rovering To Success on first glance appears to be an outmoded, elderly text that invites ridicule and giggling at the language used, but if the reader can look past the idioms of the period it was written, and see the fundamental concepts behind what Baden-Powell is saying, then it quickly becomes an excellent guide for young people who want to live a fulfilling and adventurous lifestyle. It also provides an interesting historical reference.

I myself am a diabetic, I was searching for answers as to why this happened to me. This book helped me understand things happen for a reason and I am not to blame because of my disease. This book was one of my favorites 5 years ago. Now I'm a senior in highschool and I'm going to use it for Speech Team since I can relate.

I am 21 years old now, and I read this book back in middle school. I still think of it as one of the best, most informative books I have ever read. Although I do not have diabetes, this book helped me to understand so much more about the disease when I was a child, and that information stuck with me. Hey! I liked the book so much I actually came to Amazon.com looking for it...almost 10 years later!

This book helped me soooo much it taught me how to deal and cope with diabetic people now i know how to tell if someone is a diabetic!!!You should really read this book you won't regret spending your money on this book=:)

The book Sarah T. Portraite of a teenage alcoholic was a really good book. I really enjoyed reading about how Sarah struggled through everyday life and the problems that she faced everyday. It was really touching to read about her schedule of everyday life and how she coped with a new family and her drinking problem. It was very hard for her to finally admit that she did indeed have a problem. Even her mother wouldn't admit that she had a problem. But in the end it all worked out and she got the help she needed along with a few friends!

I had to read this book in Language Arts class. I thought this would be like any other book we have read, uninteresting and boring. But, I was wrong. I really enjoyed reading this book. It made me open my eyes and understand that teen-age alcoholism is a serious problem in America today. This is an awesome book for people of all ages. Hey, im only 13 and i enjoyed it!

This book was AMAZING. I never would have thought it would change me the way it did. I am not an alcoholic. I have had maybe two drinks in my whole life. My english teacher recommended this book to me. I was reluctant at first, but I am so glad I decided to read it. Near the last chapter I wanted to bawl my eyes out. I couldnt put the book down. I STRONGLY recommend this book to everyone. It is awesome and diserves 6 stars. Wow.

I love these books! As almost all of the other readers of these books have said, they are truly the most addicting things to read! I have every book in the series, including the Special Diaries one, except #17. There seems to be only one being sold on Amazon.com (as of today: Dec. 28, 2002), and it's [alot more than I can afford]. Being a teen, I don't have the money lying around, so if you have it used-let me know. I check Amazon.com a lot-please put it on the market!! Sounds crazy, but I need this book! You have no idea!!

I have read every book in this series of books and I am addicted. I'm even waiting for one of the first copies of number 20 in the series. I will DIE when the series ends. Please DON'T STOP and even when you have to, please write another exactly like it. The way that people can relate to the characters is scary. Out of all the series of books that I've ever read,this is the most addictive one yet. They are my favorite books in the book world. The Hebrews had a dynamic way of saying things. They would speak of past circumstances in the present tense to pull you into the middle of it, to let you experience it. They would use the past tense to show that future things will definitely come to pass, thus assuring that God's promises are a sure thing. Also, there are many times when modern translations hide the actual meaning of the Hebrew by converting a present-tense verb into the future tense, thus veiling the fact that the verse is speaking of what should be a present, everyday experience rather than one waiting to happen. Good examples would be Psalm 1 where the last verse is usually translated "shall perish" wheras the Hebrew tense says "has perished" showing the definiteness that the ungodly will definitely perish; in other words, the Hebrew says that it's as good as done. Also, verse 3 ususally reads "whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper." But the actual Hebrew tenses agree with New Testament teaching, for it truly says "whose leaf also does not wither, and whatever he does propers." That's right: It's not simply a promise for the future, but a promise for the present everyday life of God's people. And there's more than that. Other translations of the Old Testament reset the tenses of the Hebrew verbs based on a fallicy that the Hebrew letter Waw or Vav had a converting power over the tense. But no language of that time including Hebrew showed any such conversive grammar. And the translators have broken their own rule about the Waw conversive uncountable times. If you want to read the Old Testament in the dynamic presentation of actual Hebrew tenses, this is the only Bible that stays true to it. And don't worry about knowing how the Hebrew tenses work. Young explains it pretty simply in the front of the Bible and also gives more details for the "intellectual." If you read this translation in the Old Testament, you won't read the Old Testament the same way again.

When I first read this book I didn't exactly know what it meant. After I finished I did. It is really sad that kids my age or older or younger have to do more work than I could do in two years. It's not fair that they are being denied a childhood. They never will have the chance to fall out of a tree, or get grass stains on the new pair of jeans that they will never have. If you don't find this sad you need to find a heart, picutre yourself doing all the work. I don't think we could do it.

It was a stuinning book that truly opened my eyes

I saw a story about the man who wrote and photographed this book on 60 Minutes. It was so intersting, I bought the book. The book opens your eyes to child slave labor in third world countries. It's heart breaking to see these children being abused in this manner. The photos are a reality check, and the text will make you weep.
